Chapter 373: Chapter 297: Hand-Cranked Charger_1
In a state of demonic thoughts, I truly am more powerful, efficient, and decisive. This time under the influence of those thoughts, the small gap I left seemed to be a liability. But no matter how you put it, when in that state, I’m a lunatic!
After all, the version of myself after recovery is better. Food tastes great, and I sleep much more comfortably. The convenience brought by the artificial intelligence Lilith is undeniable. Once she’s set a task, she autonomously completes it, allowing me to sleep securely on the motorbike.
Until a new attack arrived.
Zheng Yichen instantly donned the steel battle suit, with less than half of the energy remaining. But as long as he wasn’t maintaining flight or using the high-consumption features, and simply treated it as an armor and power amplification plugin, the suit’s endurance was quite impressive.
"Dammit!" Seeing Zheng Yichen clad in the battle suit and riding the motorbike, the chasing Boundary Breakers were overwhelmed. "How did he break through the authorization??"
"I don’t know how he bypassed authentication, but I do know that if this guy chases us down, he could kill us all!"
Initially, they were hunting Zheng Yichen, but now the tables had turned, and it was Zheng Yichen pursuing them. With the motorbike’s built-in electromagnetic barrier projection and camouflage, they were genuinely afraid during the counter-assault.
"Quick, turn around!!" The counter-chase began. Without the hindrance of demonic thoughts, Zheng Yichen might not have been as ruthlessly efficient, but his determination to eliminate enemies was undiminished. Upon closing in on them, Lilith even started hacking from a distance.
She violently cracked the operating systems of their vehicles. A helicopter malfunctioned while in flight and plummeted to the ground in a spiral. It was difficult to control and interfere with some vehicles, but some were equipped with built-in computers, and their drivers watched helplessly as their vehicles slowed down.
Then, a vehicle hit by a shot where artificial intelligence Lilith had marked exploded, instantly killing those inside. The counter-murder spree continued for nearly half a day. Despite receiving support, it was pointless.
Or rather, once Zheng Yichen acquired a steel battle suit which could ignore most bullet attacks, their support became futile. No one could outfight him in close combat, and he wasn’t afraid of ranged attacks either. Some native world weapons, like the light beam guns, were non-functional here, thanks to the motorbike’s disruption devices coming into play, right?
The Boundary Breakers were at a loss. They never imagined that a battle suit falling into the hands of Zheng Yichen would bring about such a drastic change, effectively turning him into a humanoid Gundam.
Moreover, in close combat, the performance of the battle suit used by Zheng Yichen was superior to theirs, despite being the same model.
After half a day, the remaining Boundary Breakers were thoroughly beaten and lacked any will to fight. Half a day of being ruthlessly chopped down by Zheng Yichen... Once he caught up with them in this broken environment, there was truly no capacity to struggle at all.
All sorts of trickery, secret techniques, enchantments, and magic — the environment didn’t support the use of those powers. Even if they could shoot energy beams in other worlds, here they had to physically brawl. And if they couldn’t beat Zheng Yichen in hand-to-hand combat, what was the point of fighting...
"Phew, I’m exhausted." Sitting on the motorbike, Zheng Yichen enjoyed the air conditioning internal to the battle suit and looked at its energy reserves, now under 5%. Although he had fought using the least amount of energy possible, the suit still consumed power when operational; no level of conservation would leave much energy for use.
He had stolen some tools from the Boundary Breakers and acquired a toolbox. Next was to modify and upgrade the suit.
At a minimum, he needed to make the suit’s charging port compatible with the motorbike’s charger. After that... he’d leave it up to fate. He wasn’t some super hacker or high-level mechanic like Chiang Wei. What he could do was, with Lilith’s assistance, hammer out the necessary parts as best as he could.
As for the precision of the parts, Lilith would check with projection equipment, ensuring that the errors were within acceptable limits.
"Now you’ve got me, who can at most assemble a computer, using a file and these tools to fashion a charging plug for the steel battle suit..." Zheng Yichen looked at the tools in his hand. After chasing and cutting down the Boundary Breakers for the better part of the day, collecting tools was also a priority.
This battle suit significantly enhanced his strength, and with Lilith’s intelligent support, further optimized the performance of the suit. It gave Zheng Yichen a sense of power like he had back in Hazy City. Enemies wearing the same model of steel battle suits were easily dispatched before him.
Now, he could even slash bullets and chop down small missiles.
So this gear was crucial — so crucial that, after killing those Boundary Breakers wearing the same suits, he dismantled extra parts, all for the sake of experimentation.
"It’s like this," Lilith’s projection said seriously as she stood on Zheng Yichen’s shoulder. "Boss, I wish I could help physically, but there’s nothing I can do."
"What I can offer is to provide highly detailed projection modules."
"So I hammer and file each part into shape, right?"
Lilith nodded, "At least there’s a portable welder..."
"Yeah, let’s get started." Zheng Yichen sighed, feeling a bit overwhelmed. Time was not on his side. Sharpening the axe will not delay the work of cutting wood; the sooner he could get this done, the better. During the counter-raid, he had seized quite a few supplies, but despite having traveled hundreds of kilometers, the environment still remained an endless expanse of desert.
If one were to get lost out here, there would really be no chance of escaping... as if he would let that happen.
Since the space in this region wasn’t distorted, Lilith’s unique positioning system was also effective. So far, they had been traveling in a straight line without deviating from their course.
"Really, what’s the point of making the charging port so complicated? Couldn’t they have just used a regular data cable connection... or even just a pair of electrical prongs?" Zheng Yichen muttered as he worked on some materials. Although the charging port had a sci-fi feel and looked cool, the experience of actually using it was another story. If the interface had been simpler, a matter of attaching a couple of wires, he wouldn’t be here straining his eyes and grinding down some materials.
This charging port wasn’t just about aligning and inserting it—there were hundreds of intricate details inside that had to match with each component interface. Some of these interfaces couldn’t just be plugged in directly; the charger had to be twisted a few turns after insertion.
Feeling that he could craft a devil’s work ball if he managed to make this with his bare hands, Zheng Yichen thought the task was incredibly challenging.
"I wonder if I can take apart this charging port and just pull out the wires to charge it?" Zheng Yichen proposed a seemingly foolish idea.
Lilith didn’t explain anything but showed him a projection of the internal structure of the charging system. The wiring was almost non-existent, and the charging port was integrated entirely with the main body. If disassembled, there would be no way to charge the device.
It was undeniably a form of technological lock-down. Making the charging port so complex ensured it was difficult for others to use this type of equipment if they got their hands on it.
"Many parts of this charger socket are akin to physical decryption. Without those components, charging would only cause internal malfunctions in the system."
"Got it, I’ll carefully craft all the necessary components," Zheng Yichen responded.
This task was more exhausting than fighting; in combat, one only had to think about the moves and counter-moves and then just strike the killing blow. Crafting these precision parts, much more time was spent on the fine details. Fortunately, Lilith’s assistance was very helpful.
After Zheng Yichen completed a small component, Lilith would mark it as finished. He didn’t have to assemble it right away; he just needed to gradually produce the several hundred tiny components.
Even so, it took him more than two days. When he finished the last one, Zheng Yichen began to question his life choices. Not only that, but his hands were worn raw and his eyes were bloodshot. He felt that if he were attacked now, he would likely lose a percentage of his combat effectiveness due to distraction.
However, the massive chase earlier meant that the Boundary Breakers had temporarily lost the desire to trouble him. These past few days, he occasionally used his thermal vision to scan the surrounding environment and spotted no suspicious figures.
"Let’s start the final assembly. This should be successful in one go, right?"
"The success rate is above 95%," the AI Lilith replied. The components, though handcrafted by Zheng Yichen with blistered hands, were quite precise with her assistance. The accuracy was high enough; not exactly like machine-produced parts, but the comparison to the projected parts assembly was sufficiently detailed. The remaining chance of less than 5% might be due to other issues within the battle suit.
That probability was below 5%, considered negligible for humans. For the AI Lilith, however, she had already minimized the chance of failure as much as possible. Still, these handcrafted components, along with other potential issues, prevented further reduction in the failure rate.
For instance, the materials, although all conductive, varied and brought about different issues to interoperability. Zheng Yichen didn’t have a wide array of materials at his disposal; he only had basic ones like gold, silver, copper, iron, and some other alloys.
"Let’s start then!" Zheng Yichen rubbed his hands, took a sip of water, used the remaining water to wash his hands and face, and after wiping them with a wet wipe, he began the final task of carefully assembling hundreds of components into a charging socket.
He then connected it with the charging wires he could pull from the motorbike.
High technology... Zheng Yichen truly experienced both the convenience and inconvenience that came with it.
