Chapter 333: Chapter 269: Deepening Understanding is Enough_1
Ahn Qi sent a message back and then continued on her way to her destination, deeming those people not difficult to handle.
People without special powers could sign an agreement with the other party, train them, and let them become members of the hunters group. Those who already possessed power could bypass this process altogether, and it would be a pity to miss out on those who have adaptability to anomalies.
She was particularly curious about Zheng Yichen’s situation. The commotion in the southern forest this morning was mostly his doing. Since Zheng Yichen could move around in the southern forest and even in increasingly central areas, his strength must not have been too adversely affected by his size reduction.
Ahn Qi slowed down her car, took a detour around the Night Banquet Bar a couple of times, and then headed to Zheng Yichen’s house.
Upon hearing the doorbell, Katrina said, "There’s a visitor."
"You guys carry on, I’ll go take a look." Zheng Yichen left the workshop and went to the front door, which he opened.
Upon seeing Zheng Yichen open the door, Ahn Qi’s expression turned very odd. She had seen a short-haired version of Zheng Yichen yesterday, but today she was confronted with a long-haired version. Barefoot, Zheng Yichen was also filing his nails with a rasp, "Can I take this as a good thing?"
Ahn Qi resisted the urge to squat down and pat his head.
"Of course, rapid growth of connective tissue means that my body is also growing quickly." Zheng Yichen nodded and gestured for Ahn Qi to come inside, "What’s up?"
"I came to arrange some matters, but now it seems that there’s no need." Ahn Qi glanced outside the window. Since Zheng Yichen was recovering, the previous arrangements became unnecessary, "If you need anything, just ask. There’s no need to be so formal about our cooperation."
She wanted Zheng Yichen to recover even faster.
"No matter how fast, it’s at least two months’ time. There are some things you don’t need to worry about. Currently, there’s hardly anyone who can beat me."
At least in this world, that was nearly the case. He didn’t dare to claim that he was the absolute top existence in this world, but to deal with the vast majority of beings was already more than enough.
He currently only had forty percent of his peak state’s strength, but that forty percent was compared to before he annihilated the heart of the planet. He had also absorbed a significant amount of the blood from the planet’s heart. When delivering the last blow, the residual planet’s heart was absorbed to nothing by him.
Even if that thing wasn’t a complete planet’s heart, it was still the essence preserved after the planet’s heart had sustained a fatal hit. The enhancement boost he got from gulping it down wasn’t minimal, it was just that his body was in too bad of a shape to finely feel that feedback at the time.
Considering the boost from that feedback, his current state compared to his true peak was an overestimation even at forty percent. This would become clear soon.
"I believe you, but your current appearance makes that hard to believe."
Zheng Yichen smiled, "No problem, I’m actually planning to ask the fire dragon for something, and sparring with him is fine too."
To this, Ahn Qi had no objections. The fire dragon was a benchmark for strength within the hunters group. The fire dragon had always been beaten by Zheng Yichen, but the fire dragon’s strength was genuinely top-notch in individual combat within the group.
"No way—absolutely impossible!!" Lying on the ground, the fire dragon widened its eyes at the human ’child’ before it. It knew the person was Zheng Yichen, but being beaten down by Zheng Yichen in this state made the fire dragon doubt life again.
It couldn’t beat a fifteen-year-old Zheng Yichen, but could it still not beat a ten-year-old Zheng Yichen?
This was something an adult dragon couldn’t accept. If there was a difference in this battle compared to the last, it was that Zheng Yichen’s punches hurt more. Smaller in size, the focus of his punches was more concentrated when he attacked, and his small fists were like nails, creating a painfully penetrating small pit in the dragon’s scales whenever they hit.
"Hey, don’t be so down. I actually came to learn."
"First you beat me up, turn me into this mess, and then you tell me you’re here to learn? Be... human!" The fire dragon rubbed its head and sat on the ground, admitting it had underestimated Zheng Yichen this time and mentally lowered the challenging age in his mind again.
No point fighting a Zheng Yichen with a ten-year-old appearance. Wait till he’s eight, then.
"Who asked you to live so long, to be the most knowledgeable? I’m just a brute good at close combat, magic is up to you to teach."
"Hmm hmm~" The fire dragon gently raised its brow, "Speaking of magic, humans are far behind dragons. From what I know, many humans can’t cast a high-level magic in their entire lifetime, while dragons can attempt to cast high-level magic just a few years after hatching. Why have you suddenly decided to seriously learn magic?"
"I’m unlikely to have any physical enhancement until I return to normal, so I might as well learn something new," explained Zheng Yichen. The powers he could use now included water, wind, earth, and lightning, which were innate, while his use of fire was supplemented by the fishing rod.
As he encountered higher-level environments, Zheng Yichen believed he might not need these powers, but a deeper understanding was essential as simple usage was increasingly inadequate.
He had felt it during the battle with those flesh monsters—attacks with the same lightning or fierce winds he launched were simply no match for some of those flesh monsters. Attacks he meant to use to clear the field turned into jokes, and he had to rely on close combat to defeat those flesh monsters in the end.
Hellfire was also a fire-type power. Even though it wasn’t Zheng Yichen’s own power, the weapon was his, and using Hellfire felt even smoother than elemental manipulation. Hellfire could be used during his Burst Mode, but not elements manipulation.
The Burst Mode generated a membrane of energy that completely isolated him from the environment.
The fire dragon examined Zheng Yichen. "To be fair, you’re starting to learn magic really late."
"But it could deepen my understanding of flames, right?"
"Hmm?" The fire dragon looked at Zheng Yichen with a puzzled expression. "You have fire power? Let me see."
Zheng Yichen took out his fishing rod, and as green flames appeared on it, the fire dragon’s eyes widened in shock. "Damn, you’re alive and using this kind of flame—aren’t you afraid of burning yourself to a crisp??"
He recognized the nature of the flame instantly—Hellfire, Netherfire, the fire of death, and so on. Whatever it’s called, it wasn’t meant for the living. Even if one managed to use it, prolonged exposure would leave them dried out, something not even dragons could avoid.
This kind of flame consumes Life Force and carries a scent of death. Just as humans get tanned by the sun, imagine the effects of being in contact with these flames over a long time.
Sniff, sniff—
The fire dragon sniffed and appeared confused. "This flame isn’t really yours, is it? It’s coming from a magic tool, so even if you understand this flame more, it’s useless..."
At this point, the fire dragon looked surprised. "You’re not planning to control this flame personally, are you?"
Zheng Yichen nodded. He wasn’t too worried about losing the weapon in his hand, but having been through so many battles, he knew how useful Hellfire was, more importantly, this kind of flame wasn’t highly dependent on the environment.
"Hahaha, don’t think too much, man. You’re human, and using this kind of flame through a magic tool is as far as you go. Wanting to master it, unless you become an Undead."
The fire dragon laughed heartily and began to enlighten Zheng Yichen. "Plus, before you turn into an Undead, there are some conditions to be met, like being a fire dragon like me in your living days or having an extremely high Fire type affinity. At the very least, you’d have to be a high-level Fire type Mage among the human race."
"These conditions are the stable prerequisites. The unstable, gamble-worth method is to die by Netherfire. If by chance you become an Undead after dying to Netherfire, you might gain control over it. But the chances are so slim, you might as well ignore that possibility—it’s not much better than winning the lottery."
Netherfire—whether or not one could die with their body intact was one thing, but the soul would definitely be consumed by such flames, unless the intensity of the Netherfire was so weak. And if the fire is weak, it won’t leave enough of an imprint on the deceased to control that power after becoming an Undead.
Zheng Yichen felt a bit disappointed but didn’t plan to give up. "Is there really no other way?"
The fire dragon shook its head. "In the past, I would’ve said no, but now I’ve been in contact with many worlds, and I can’t speak so absolutely about some things. What I’ve mentioned are just the methods I know of. Whether there are other methods... Hmm, well, if you find one, can you share it with me? Of course, if the side effects are too severe, forget it."
As a fire dragon, he was very interested in flames. If he could avoid the side effects of a living being mastering Netherfire, he would definitely want to learn it. He’d been playing with normal flames for hundreds of years and wanted to add more colors to the flames he controlled.
"Then first, share some of your insights on using flames with me."
"It’s not a power you inherently have; knowing it won’t do you any good..." The fire dragon muttered, curiously eyeing the fishing rod in Zheng Yichen’s hand. "Can I take a look at this?"
"Are you sure?"
The fire dragon nodded; it was quite curious about this thing.
"Here you go."
The moment the fire dragon received the fishing rod, it immediately tossed it back to Zheng Yichen. Upon touching the rod, he had felt his own Life Force draining, and a whisper of death had crept up through his claw.
In his world, this thing could summon legions of Undead to grind Zheng Yichen to dust!
"This weapon of yours reminds me of some god-bestowed weapons," said the fire dragon, somewhat conflicted. In his world, there are gods who make contact with creatures of the Mortal Realm. Heroes, for instance, may carry god-bestowed weapons, which are restricted to their rightful bearers and only function in their hands.
Others who try to use them forcefully or touch them without permission suffer backlash or curses, the severity of which depends on the benevolence of the deity. A more clement deity might make a god-bestowed weapon into nothing more than a fire stick in the wrong hands, while a crueler one would cast a direct curse.
Zheng Yichen said to the fire dragon. "If I ever have the chance, I’ll try to get you a Supreme Demon Weapon or two, though with your size, you might not be able to use them."
"That’s alright; having them as collectibles would be nice too." The fire dragon scratched its cheek. Encountering multiple worlds had broadened its understanding of Supreme Demons, which he perceived as gods of a different kind than the ones in his own world.
Zheng Yichen always had a solid reputation in its view. With this promise, the fire dragon shared his insights even more eagerly, offering personal views, such as using magic to manipulate Hellfire.
