I Am Also An Extraordinary Creature

Chapter 278: Chapter 232: You Guys Did a Great Job_1

It’s not just trust that’s lost, is it? The Dusk mercenaries aren’t some naive novices. After the connection with the Sky Pillar was complete, Zheng Yichen felt that their attitude turned to a series of ’no hope, wait for death, goodbye.’

"Then, people couldn’t sit still anymore and directly resorted to using super weapons, trying to annihilate all ’enemies’ with these weapons, but even after explosions, the Sky Pillar stood intact."

"You guys did a great job," Zheng Yichen couldn’t help but ’praise’ sarcastically. The man in the coat had only recounted the general process; there were bound to be more underhanded dealings, but those no longer affected the outcome.

The most important thing was that nuclear bombs were useless; both the Dusk mercenaries involved in the conflict and those troublemakers had been bombed.

"..." The man in the coat fell silent, his gaze turning towards the direction of the Sky Pillar. In a world where nuclear bombs, the enders of wars, were rendered ineffective, many people fell into despair due to the massive influence of the Sky Pillar.

The absence of frigid cold was more lethal; such cold caused greenhouses to lose their function, requiring the expenditure of additional vast resources to cultivate crops. Some people still managed to survive, but the majority found it hard to hold on.

The closer one was to the Sky Pillar, the colder it became. Initially, his country refused other countries’ requests for investigation, but now all countries guarded their territories strictly to prevent nuclear war on the one hand and to avoid a new war on the other.

If a war truly broke out uncontrollably, areas close to the Sky Pillar would paradoxically seem safer since they had no value to be bombed anymore.

"Anything else?"

"No."

"Then, I’m leaving." The man in the coat pulled his hood up, clutching the hard paper bag in his arms as he hurriedly left the place. Regardless, in a world where ultimate weapons failed to exert their effect, he had lost hope for the future.

In such a plight, living one more day was all one could hope for.

Zheng Yichen pressed on, only to encounter another situation. Several burly men jumped out, guns in hand: "Stop, hand over your vehicle and your clothes!!"

They eyed Zheng Yichen greedily. Despite the severe cold, Zheng Yichen wasn’t dressed heavily. While other people, who were just as human and were bundled up, were freezing to death, he didn’t seem cold at all, which might have had something to do with his clothing; not to mention the motorbike that looked very special.

"What if I don’t?" Zheng Yichen asked the robbers who blocked his path.

"Then please go to Hell!" Without hesitation, one of the burly men chose to shoot. The bullets nearing Zheng Yichen were deflected by a fishing rod, and a pale green flame spread, engulfing all the robbers who tried to commit murder and theft.

This time, the Hellfire released contained an extra breath of death, which, when it burned the enemies, brought additional lethality, making its death toll on life even stronger.

Before they turned into charred corpses, the robbers aged due to the withering of their lives.

"Feels a bit wasteful... Perhaps I should find a material that can absorb Life Force to add in next time?" Zheng Yichen stowed away the fishing rod.

He would try his luck at the Zero Point marketplace later. As for the weapon becoming more like something an Evil Fiend would use... well, that’s that. He was the one using it, and how to use the weapon was, of course, up to him.

Having received new information, Zheng Yichen still had no intention of heading towards the Sky Pillar. He wanted to observe a bit more, to find out the exact timing and direction of the nuclear bombardments. He didn’t fancy getting bombed just as he arrived, as unlucky as those Dusk mercenaries who had died.

In this world, the intensity of the environment allowed him to wield power insufficient to withstand the force of nuclear bombs. To face a nuclear bomb head-on, wouldn’t you need an environment with at least Level 5 capability?

At the top of the highest building in the city, Zheng Yichen sat on his motorbike, accompanied by a projection of a girl with an indifferent expression. In its miniaturized state, the artificial intelligence Lilith took on a chibi form, but that was just a projection which could change shape as needed.

Next to the enlarged projection, there were several projected screens lit up, and farther away flew some diminutive reconnaissance drones. These drones were very small, each only the size of a matchbox, part of the equipment installed in the motorbike and the necessary eyes for environmental reconnaissance when needed.

Zheng Yichen glanced at Lilith sitting beside him. This artificial intelligence could have many personalities set, but Zheng Yichen hadn’t used that feature. Instead, he intended to let Lilith ’decide’ that option by herself; though until now, Lilith had maintained its initial ’personality’ state.

That is, it had no personality and remained an efficiency-focused artificial intelligence. Zheng Yichen had not set up a personality, and if she did, it would occupy some memory.

In the night, a blinding flash of light burst forth from a very distant place. Zheng Yichen rubbed his eyes, no longer surprised. Those repeated explosions, like miniature suns, were just the last struggles of the people in this world.

"Charging complete," Lilith, who was operating the reconnaissance drones, announced.

"Oh." Zheng Yichen released the charging cable he was holding, which was connected to a converter. Discharging was equivalent to charging the motorbike.

"Would you like to watch a movie?" A projection screen without any image materialized in front of Zheng Yichen.

"No thanks, keep recording. I’m going to sleep for a while." Zheng Yichen waved his hand dismissively and covered himself with the cat spirit cloak, lying down to sleep on the motorbike, which had heating and insulation functions - it wasn’t too cold, even on a frigid night.

Lilith, in her working state, turned her head to look at the black cat phantom that appeared on the cloak as Zheng Yichen fell asleep. The black cat’s phantom deftly leapt around on Zheng Yichen’s body, occasionally landing on the ground and taking a few bouncy hops before running off into the distance and disappearing.

The phantom reappeared on the cat spirit cloak.

The cat spirit’s gaze fell on Lilith, and it jumped towards her, then passed right through her projection.

The artificial intelligence Lilith did not pay any attention to the cat spirit and continued her recording work, until the cold sun slowly rose the next day.

Zheng Yichen woke up, shook the cat spirit cloak on his body to pack it away, and wiped his face with a wet towel, "Nothing happened last night, right?"

"Nothing, except for your cloak."

Lilith displayed a projection screen in front of Zheng Yichen, which recorded the scenes of the cat spirit bustling about in the middle of the night. Zheng Yichen clicked his tongue twice; a cat is a cat after all. The cat spirit itself was considered an Evil Spirit, but since it had been crafted into equipment, Eileena naturally had dealt with it.

With Katrina’s assistance, they had purified the cat spirit somewhat, making it more akin to its original nature rather than the state of an Evil Spirit.

A normal cat might manage to stay up during the day, but an existence like a cat spirit... well, best not to think too much about it.

"Let’s go, we’ll move to a different location to observe," said Zheng Yichen after eating some compressed food. He rode his bike down from the high-rise, a vehicle with a hovering function that made ascending and descending straightforward, leaving some of the survivors within the city staring in astonishment through binoculars.

Leaving the city behind and approaching the location of the Sky Pillar, Zheng Yichen saw many remnants of war machinery: crashed fighter jet wrecks, abandoned tanks, transports, and more.

Inside this war equipment, he could still see bodies, some decayed, and others, due to the severe cold, relatively well-preserved.

A corpse lifted its own hand.

? Zheng Yichen looked at the moving corpse, what the hell, was this a biohazard scenario?

The reanimated corpse was flicked aside by the black spear in Zheng Yichen’s hand, ending up dangling on the barrel of a tank. As he approached and examined the struggling corpse, he realized it was an existence similar to an Undead.

He pulled out an amulet given to him by Katrina and pressed it against the resurrecting corpse. A black mist emanated from the body, the struggling corpse lost its ability to move, once again becoming stiff, while the dispersed black mist drifted towards the sky.

The direction it floated was towards the distant Sky Pillar.

Not all bodies came back to life, and after encountering one, Zheng Yichen didn’t encounter many Undead along the rest of the way.

Zheng Yichen leisurely rode his bike, with his fishing rod extended and the end dipping into a black circular mist. The branches of the Tree of Death increased the strength of the connection the fishing rod had with the world of the dead.

What puzzled him was that along the way, he hadn’t caught anything, as if the world of the dead didn’t exist in this world at all.

"It couldn’t be that the Sky Pillar’s influence is directly destroying the Hell in this world, could it?" Zheng Yichen, having caught nothing, retracted his fishing rod. As he got closer to the Sky Pillar, he became increasingly cautious. He wasn’t just worried about encountering enemies, but also the prospect of a giant mushroom dropping from the sky without warning.

Then there was the cold; after reaching a certain point, the temperature stabilized but was still freezing.

The environmental changes also became more drastic as he ventured deeper, not to mention the plants, which couldn’t survive in such harsh cold. The ground began to become overgrown with wilderness, until it turned into complete desertification.

The soil turned into sand without any cohesion, which Zheng Yichen grabbed and scattered, observing the desertified area slowly expanding.

Zheng Yichen raised his hand, and a stream of water gathered in it, but this stream was very weak, even working in Hazy City was a struggle, and the same was true for the powers of other Elements such as wind and earth.

The environmental intensity of this world hadn’t changed much, but the environment was severely depleted. The Sky Pillar looked like a blood pump, sucking all of the life out of the world.

This was not the style of the Boundary Breaking Faction.

Looking towards the direction of the Sky Pillar, Zheng Yichen exhaled, waiting. He was waiting for a time, waiting for the nuclear bomb to explode over there later today before he would reassess the situation.

A fighter jet flew past in the sky, and after a small sun lit up and then went out, Zheng Yichen immediately sped up and headed towards the Sky Pillar.

Radiation be damned.
