Chapter 129: Chapter 120 Waiting for the Destined One_3
Zheng Yichen observed the mutant creature that hadn’t gone mad from the lure’s scent and nodded, confirming Tia was correct. Whether a creature lured by the bait would go mad depended on the target; this hippo-like creature hadn’t gone mad.
He had chosen mutated creatures that weren’t very large, precisely because he considered that Alien Phenomenon creatures might not be very big. Mutants that were too large probably wouldn’t be taken down in one go.
Now it didn’t matter.
This ’hippo’s’ mouth was very big, and it swallowed the mutant creature with decisive ease.
Zheng Yichen did not immediately leave, but continued to conceal his presence and wait. To properly store the venom, he used his black spear, which was highly resistant to the corrosive effects of venom. Over time, it could be damaged, but as long as it was thick enough, it would last longer.
After the black spear was thrown, it would maintain its form for a while. Then, Zheng Yichen wrapped the spear in a dense layer of soil, and further wrapped it with some unused gorilla skin he had.
Layer by layer, it would take some time for the venom to seep out.
Ten minutes later, the departing hippo let out a piercing howl. He immediately rushed over and saw the hippo writhing in agony on the ground, spouting a large amount of black liquid from its mouth like a faucet, the color of which was also slowly becoming clearer.
He kicked the animal while it was down, maintaining his Burst Mode, and his black spear plunged directly into the hippo’s eyes, piercing through and destroying its brain.
The entire hippo convulsed once and then heavily slammed onto the ground, its body shriveling due to the devouring power of the black spear. Soon, Zheng Yichen stepped back with a look of disgust and stopped absorbing its blood.
The blood he had initially drawn up was normal, but he then felt an unbearable bitterness, even worse than the taste from long-dead corpses.
"Ugh, disgusting..." Zheng Yichen said, face contorted in revulsion, as if finding a spoiled nut among edible ones was a hundred times more unpleasant.
And the hippo’s corpse quickly turned into a mottled green and then into a pool of poison.
At that moment, Zheng Yichen was still feeling nauseated. He took half an hour to recover, even running into a ruined convenience store to stuff his mouth with sweets, which did little to alleviate his discomfort.
"Cough, I definitely can’t do this again next time," Zheng Yichen said, rubbing his throat. Despite being in perfectly good condition, the bitterness had caused an inherent revulsion that made him extremely uncomfortable.
He gained a new understanding of his extraordinary abilities. He had thought he could consume anything, but now he realized how significant the influence of accumulated bitterness was, although there was no effect from the venom...
He was just uncomfortable, not poisoned.
After a while, as the bitterness began to fade, Zheng Yichen took a deep breath, watching the dissipating mist. This hippo died most unjustly, having been tricked and killed by Zheng Yichen’s despicable poisoning tactics without a chance to show its true strength.
For Zheng Yichen, however, this fight was the most effortless.
He felt so relaxed that after a bout of nausea, he had ample time to explore the area. He even found a trailer and hauled away a significant quantity of stuff. As for how the other survivors might deal with this Alien Phenomenon Remnant Zone in the future, that was their concern.
Every Alien Phenomenon Remnant Zone could be considered a ’whale fall.’
When the linked Alien Phenomenon creature dies, the remnant zone it leaves behind could improve the living conditions of the post-apocalyptic survivors, provided that the ones who find it aren’t the Zombie Evolvers...
With this thought, Zheng Yichen suddenly didn’t want to leave anymore. He didn’t have much of a connection with the people of this world, but supplying additional resources to the world’s Zombie Evolvers? Certainly not!
He decided to stay in the area for a while.
During his wait, Zheng Yichen scavenged like a treasure hunter, packing up interesting finds and taking them away. Initially, he had a trailer, but then he found a truck with keys still in the ignition. After trying it, he realized his driving skills were poor yet driving this thing wasn’t too difficult.
The main thing was not worrying about hitting walls since the roads he’d be taking were through the wilderness; he just needed to floor the gas pedal.
Then there was the feedback from killing the hippo. The moisture in the air condensed into a water ball in his hand—power related to water, albeit weakly manifesting since he had drawn less than a quarter of the hippo’s blood.
As always, having some power was better than none. With earth, water, wind, and fire in his possession, he could assemble a full set of Elements and see what happens. Maybe one day he’d enter a world of Immortality Cultivation with all these element-related powers. Wouldn’t he be naturally gifted?
Then, armed with an incredible sword and learning a couple of powerful Spells, he could pretend to cast a spell during combat. While the enemy was caught off guard, he’d go up and give them a couple of hits...
Stable!
One day, while Zheng Yichen was practicing driving, a squad of post-apocalyptic survivors arrived. They looked puzzledly at Zheng Yichen straining with the vehicle, not understanding why anyone would struggle with such a thing in a post-apocalyptic world.
Zheng Yichen wasn’t embarrassed. He addressed the group of survivors, "You’re lucky, the first ones to arrive here. Remember to keep a close eye on this place in the future so Zombie Evolvers don’t take over, goodbye."
After saying this, Zheng Yichen drove away without giving them a chance to speak, leaving behind the bewildered survivors who had come hearing of an Alien Phenomenon hoping to scavenge something. However, they found no phenomenon, just a makeshift mini-city... and a strange man.
Then they were distracted by the resources in this ’mini-city.’
"Captain, look over there!"
Back to their senses and feeling played, the squad leader’s eyes widened. He saw a large pile of Zombie Evolvers’ corpses stacked up...
