When they got closer, their throats and stomachs writhed violently, and their strong feeding instincts crazily stimulated their brains. Watching Zheng Yichen’s killing spree, fear overcame hunger, prompting them to choose flight over food. Those that remained were simply the ones who hadn’t managed to escape in time.

"Was I also affected by the bait?" Zheng Yichen moved his throat, noting that the battle suit usually exerted a mental burden on its wearer, but it shouldn’t have affected him significantly while fighting. However, this burden combined with the bait’s influence considerably heightened its effect on him.

Zheng Yichen secured the remaining two pieces of bait. He had previously decided not to use it lightly, but now his resolve was never to employ it unless absolutely necessary.

And he wouldn’t be wearing this battle suit when using it.

He looked around at the many corpses, his black spear thrust into the ground, the pooled blood on the ground gradually dried up.

Zheng Yichen, somewhat troubled by the sight of so many bodies, deftly sliced a piece of meat from one of the mutant animals. Hellfire quickly cooked it, and he ate hungrily to satisfy his appetite before he started the formal cleanup of the site.

"I need to find fresh ones in the future." After the Hellfire had vanished, Zheng Yichen, holding a cooked beast leg, began eating once again. The bait had attracted only mutant creatures and Zombie Evolvers, not humans. Incidentally, meat roasted with Hellfire only satisfied hunger,

and did not give him any temporary boosts from his new absorption trait. Meat roasted with ordinary flames, however, had some effect.

And this effect increased his overall strength by perhaps less than one-fiftieth; consuming more seemed to have a stacking effect, but the rate of increase was very low.

"So what was the point of the hours I spent doing this?" Zheng Yichen stuffed the remaining two pieces of bait into the bag in his motorcycle, planning not to use such dangerous little things again. After a nightʼs rest, only the next day did he venture into a strange anomaly in the distance.

In the meantime, several incidents occurred nearby. People in the nearby post-apocalyptic survival camps were panicking; their people had witnessed a massive outbreak of mutant beasts and Zombie Evolvers.
