Chapter 116: Chapter 114: Not Worth Sympathizing With_1
Since I couldn’t match your physical strength and my attacks were hardly effective, which made close-quarters fighting risky, I had no choice but to abandon martial honor.
Stared down by the gorilla’s hollow eye sockets for nearly a minute, the gorilla heavily lay back down, emitting a deafening snoring sound.
In recent days, Zheng Yichen felt miserable, but the gorilla felt even worse. Although the wound on its face no longer hurt, its blinded eyes would not heal. It wasn’t the kind of creature with regenerative abilities. It wanted to eat, but its efforts were constantly thwarted by that damned human. It hadn’t even touched water, only some rotten mud.
The continuous use of rampage state had also significantly drained its physical and mental energy, and now it couldn’t be bothered to deal with that damned human anymore.
All it wanted was to sleep, and in its dreams, it had a wonderful one where it caught the human and began to crush his bones one by one, starting from the toes... But the wonderful dream quickly turned into a nightmare, as the human it had captured and started to crush reappeared.
The man, with a fierce look on his face, shoved a black spear into its eye. Its eye popped like a water bubble, and intense pain made the gorilla roar and rise from the nightmare, with a black long spear stuck in its hollow eye socket.
The long spear greedily sucked at its blood, and the stabbing pain in its brain caused a membrane to sporadically surface on the gorilla’s body, firmly trapping Zheng Yichen’s forcefully thrust black spear.
As the gorilla tried to stand, Zheng Yichen had already activated the short spear beside him, and a piercing ’sizzling’ sound echoed in the gale. Under the influence of this sizzling noise, Zheng Yichen felt dizzy, and the gorilla’s swinging fists also came to a halt.
The abruptly halted wind from its fist made Zheng Yichen shiver, and then with a ferocious expression, he punched the stuck black spear, covering it with fine cracks that quickly healed. With every punch, blood spurted from the gorilla’s eye socket.
The blood was swiftly absorbed by the black spear, and in less than two seconds, the black spear was hammered into the gorilla’s head like a nail driven into stone, bit by bit, until it could no longer penetrate upon reaching the gorilla’s skull.
Zheng Yichen couldn’t catch his breath before he was sent flying by a hammering blow. The short spear’s psychical attack was effective, but under the thrall of impending death and severe pain, the gorilla recovered quickly.
But against a well-prepared Zheng Yichen, even if it overcame the mental disturbance, its brain had already been severely damaged.
Thrown back, Zheng Yichen stared fixedly at the staggering gorilla as it stood up in the distance, marveling at its vitality. Is this thing really just all muscle in its head? Its brain had suffered a penetrating injury, yet it hadn’t died on the spot!
It even had enough strength left to charge at him!
"Hey, hey, this is getting ridiculous..." Feeling his body go limp, Zheng Yichen gritted his teeth and stood up, realizing that many of his bones were broken from the dying gorilla’s counterattack punch.
"Roar, roar, roar—" The gorilla with a black spear protruding obliquely from its right eye socket roared as it charged at Zheng Yichen. Its fur gradually turned dark red, but this time it didn’t swell in size, and its aura membrane dimmed almost to the point of vanishing.
Zheng Yichen stood up, reconstructed the black spear and concentrated on the approaching gorilla, muscles tensed up as if ready to charge like a locomotive. The gorilla rushed straight at Zheng Yichen, who slightly raised his eyebrows and quickly dodged to the side. Without turning around, the gorilla kept charging forward until it collided with a pile of ruins and then went silent.
"As expected..." Zheng Yichen breathed a sigh of relief. With its brain damaged, the last thing the gorilla could do was struggle in its final moments.
After fighting with the gorilla for a week, Zheng Yichen suffered, and the gorilla suffered even more. But it didn’t deserve any sympathy, considering those bodies strung up on stakes, others tied to ropes and swung around like stones, and countless bones stacked up into ’buildings’ and such.
He didn’t have the luxury, or he would have made the gorilla die even more miserably; for now, he needed to prioritize safely killing it before anything else.
The gorilla’s corpse lay on the ruins, and Zheng Yichen felt his ribs, grimacing. Soon he would have to reset his own bones.
The advantage of having a resilient body was showing now. Although his bones were broken, his muscles stabilized the fractures, preventing most displacement, and in some cases, the muscles even pulled back bones that had been bent out of place.
The problem was that maintaining such a state was even more painful!
After a while, the faint mist within the Alien Phenomenon Remnant Zone began to dissipate, and only then did Zheng Yichen feel safe to approach the gorilla’s corpse. He didn’t dare to get too close while the anomaly persisted—had the creature been feigning death, one fierce punch could have been lethal to him.
Turning over the gorilla’s corpse and touching the muscle beneath its fur, Zheng Yichen felt as if he was touching an iron block. Even in death, the muscle’s toughness was extraordinary.
He reached out and grasped the black spear that was wedged in the giant ape’s eye socket. The cracked black spear returned to normal, and he shook the spear he was holding; it felt as if it were stuck in cement, and pulling it out was incredibly strenuous.
After pulling out the black spear, Zheng Yichen spat in disdain and poked his hand into the giant ape’s eye socket, sure enough, although it was the location closest to the brain, the only thing his fingers encountered upon entering was solid muscle tissue, no wonder the previous sneak attack on this creature met such resistance.
The black spear prodded at other parts of the giant ape’s body, feeling like a stick stabbing into cowhide. He found the spot where the initial sneak attack had hit the giant ape.
The area had already scabbed over, and Zheng Yichen simply tore off the scab, inspecting the wound beneath. The skin was damaged, but the muscle underneath had not been harmed too much.
"No matter what, I won," he said, twirling the black spear in his hand. He jabbed the sharp tip of the spear into a wound on the giant ape’s chest. The opponent was already dead, and although its muscular strength was high, without the tension of life, the black spear could now pierce the chest cavity of the great ape.
As the weapon pierced the giant ape’s heart, its body began to shrivel up. Zheng Yichen thought it over; this devouring hadn’t been very thorough— he retained the ape’s skin and skeleton, while his extraordinary abilities consumed all of the blood and other tissues that flowed away.
After completing all this, Zheng Yichen yawned. This giant ape did not have regenerative abilities; even after devouring it, his injuries hadn’t healed any faster, but his healing speed would certainly be faster for a while. As for the feedback from devouring the giant ape’s flesh and blood,
that would have to wait until his body processed and absorbed it.
Zheng Yichen sat down on the ground, and after resting for a while, he hooked a finger into the giant ape’s eye socket and walked to another place. The giant ape’s body was very shriveled; Zheng Yichen had kept its bones and skin but left none of the blood and muscle tissue behind.
The blood had been completely drained, and the robust muscles had shriveled up along with the blood loss, resembling the withered wood of a dead tree.
The weight of the giant ape had decreased by more than half. He would need to find a rack to hang it up... right, and a sharp knife as well. He would need to fetch that from his vehicle, wondering whether, after so many days, his car was still there.
"Captain, the alien phenomenon has really disappeared!!"
In the makeshift camp, a post-apocalyptic survivor ran back breathlessly, jubilantly informing Jiang Fuxing, who was resting.
"Uh?" Jiang Fuxing, waking up, rubbed her eyes and quickly became alert, "Hurry up and wake the others, let’s get ready!"
Only after the team had assembled did they, filled with anticipation for the disappearance of the alien phenomenon, begin to explore the area. But instead of heading straight there, they first observed from afar before preparing to move out.
As for Zheng Yichen’s parked car, they had discovered it a few days earlier. Someone couldn’t resist the urge to touch the car but was severely scolded by Jiang Fuxing. The commotion in the alien phenomenon hadn’t subsided yet; who would dare to carelessly touch the car of an unknown powerhouse? That would just be courting disaster.
"Also, get someone to keep an eye on that car, don’t let anyone with itchy fingers do anything unnecessary," Jiang Fuxing said sternly, glancing at a young man with a scar on his face, "If anyone disobeys, kill them!"
"Got it, sis," the young man seriously nodded as he took the pistol Jiang Fuxing handed over to him.
By the time Jiang Fuxing entered the Alien Phenomenon Remnant Zone, two hours had passed. They observed the remnant zone from many angles with great caution, ensuring that there was nothing dangerous inside before they finally began their real mission.
Once they entered, they beheld the shattered land and the craters created by the heavy impacts, their expressions growing increasingly fearful. They had seen Evolvers before, and those who could fight with special powers, but none of those battles had ever left craters exceeding twenty meters in diameter.
Overcoming their fear was the sight of the varied sized craters containing the scattered ruins of buildings, some of which looked new and unlikely to be from the post-apocalyptic world. She even saw a half-collapsed building with a damaged wardrobe, clothes spilling out from it.
There was also a computer— she had seen such devices before, but most of those left in the settlements now were junk, and yet what she was looking at appeared very new.
There were ample resources in this devastated land, and all of them from before the apocalypse!
"It’s really true... Don’t rush around; we need to find that person first!" Seeing some couldn’t wait to start scavenging, Jiang Fuxing spoke in a cold voice to stop them, "Look at these battle marks; do you really have no fear of death?"
Her reminder calmed the restless crowd.
