Chapter 114: Chapter 112 Better to Fight Large Creatures_1
Just as the gorilla’s arms were about to smash into the ground, a black long spear swiftly thrust out from the flames, sending the gorilla’s heavy body flying backward from the impact.
"Roar—Roar—" The gorilla, nearly impaled through the chest by the spear, let out an angry roar, grabbing the long spear in its chest tightly. The immense force caused fine cracks to appear on the surface of the black spear, and with a yank, the gorilla swung its fist towards Zheng Yichen’s head.
Zheng Yichen somersaulted to his feet, pressing his hand forcefully onto the gorilla’s face. Venom splattered, some pouring into the gorilla’s mouth and some being pressed into its eye sockets and nostrils. Zheng Yichen put a lot of strength into this move!
The gorilla’s roar turned into a howl of pain, its voice becoming hoarse, no longer caring about grabbing Zheng Yichen’s weapon but wildly swinging its thick arms. After knocking Zheng Yichen away, it began to rub its smoking face with its hands.
Pieces of rotten flesh fell to the ground as it rubbed, its entire face corroded away by the giant serpent’s potent venom, its eyes turned to tatters. The gorilla’s head now resembled that of a skeleton head.
Zheng Yichen’s palm was hardly better off than the gorilla’s face; it too was affected by the venom. He hadn’t expected such a difference between the venom and the evaporated venomous fumes, as his palm was quickly corroded away, revealing blackening bones underneath.
The poison spread through his flesh and blood, and without hesitation, Zheng Yichen burned the Hellfire in the palm of his hand. The Hellfire was highly controllable for him, and under controlled conditions, it could temporarily protect him from getting burned, even if it covered him.
Nevertheless, igniting it upon himself was easy.
His palm quickly emitted a strong charred odor without the smell of cooking meat. Under the effect of the Hellfire, the toxin rapidly vaporized, and its potency dwindled, but even so, Zheng Yichen’s left hand still needed time to recover... a few minutes, perhaps.
The residual toxins had a significant impact on him, and he needed time to recuperate. In this environment, the effects of the poison seemed to be enhanced, or rather, it was in such conditions that the giant serpent’s venom could truly exhibit its power...
While Zheng Yichen was dealing with the poison, the situation for the gorilla wasn’t any better. After its face peeled away, the poison continued its effect, and in agony, the gorilla even gouged out its own eyes, black blood oozing from its nostrils.
In its pain, the gorilla still didn’t die. Instead, as time passed, it managed to resist the lingering effects of the poison, and blood blackened by the venom continued to drip from its skull-like face.
The empty eye sockets stared fixedly at Zheng Yichen’s location. Watching the new flesh sprouting on his left arm, Zheng Yichen marveled at the gorilla’s vitality and quickly backed away.
This gorilla’s physique was even stronger than that of the Alien Phenomenon behemoth. Although it wasn’t as big as that creature, Zheng Yichen’s attacks that easily penetrated its defenses were futile against the gorilla. Even with the advantage of a charged surprise attack, his strike didn’t pierce through the gorilla.
When he hit the gorilla’s muscles, it felt as if he was poking an old tree with a wooden stick, the feedback was just as tough.
The gorilla, now blind, let out a hoarse roar as Zheng Yichen retreated. Its bulky arms smashed into the ground, causing it to crack and sending shockwaves rippling outward. A dense shower of pebbles struck Zheng Yichen’s body, breaking upon impact.
Eyeing the gorilla in its pitiful state, Zheng Yichen looked for his next opportunity to strike, but every time he got within ten meters of the gorilla, the enraged creature would charge at him, forcing Zheng Yichen to back away due to its imposing fury.
After his arm recovered, he exchanged one hard blow with the gorilla, which resulted in him being smashed and sent flying over a hundred meters. Zheng Yichen had previously thought that if he ventured into a world of higher intensity levels, he wouldn’t necessarily be top-tier, but surely he would rank quite high, right?
Now he knew that he still fell short. His physique had greatly improved in high-intensity environments, and his strength had increased significantly, but he was no match for the gorilla, which actually was about the same size as him... well, just a meter taller if it stood upright.
Trying to match its strength was futile, he couldn’t even defend against it. Taking a direct hit would certainly cause him to spit blood and sustain severe injuries. The gorilla’s irrational and formidable destructive power exerted immense pressure on Zheng Yichen.
If he hadn’t launched a successful surprise attack from the beginning, he would now be seriously contemplating how to fight this creature. Even though the surprise attack had failed, he wouldn’t give up easily. The Alien Phenomenon behemoth and giant serpent did kill people too, but they mostly did it to feed. He just needed to find an opportunity to deal with them later.
But this gorilla was engaging in torture-killing, and judging by the wooden stakes it created, it was evident that it possessed a certain level of intelligence, not as communicative as Oma, but not too simple-minded either.
As the battle dragged on, Zheng Yichen also noticed other traces of massacre in different places: there were skeletons hanging in the air, some corpses were impaled with ropes, their bodies shattered and the buildings around bore many marks of violent impacts.
The mobile Alien Phenomenon had been present in this world for at least a few decades, no fewer than twenty-five years, according to what Liu Haipeng had told Zheng Yichen. After the apocalypse broke out, global communications remained intact for a while, and it was during that time he learned about the mobile Alien Phenomenon...
This gorilla had been around for at least twenty-five years. Observing the distortion of the Alien Phenomenon centered on the gorilla, Zheng Yichen pulled out his pistol. An arc of electricity flickered across the gun, and the bullet, charged with electricity, hit an oil drum falling from the sky.
The explosion sounded, and the gorilla, engulfed in the blast, simply disregarded the explosion. The black blood left on its skull-like face was scorched dry, giving the gorilla an even more fierce appearance. Its face had been smeared by Zheng Yichen with the venom of the giant serpent, damaging only its eyes, nose, and skin.
Despite being in close proximity to the brain, the venom did not kill it. It seemed that the poison had only affected the surface of the gorilla.
Damn, being smaller doesn’t necessarily make it easier to fight.
However, this giant gorilla didn’t seem to possess any special powers; as long as Zheng Yichen stayed outside its ten-meter range, the gorilla would have a hard time detecting his presence.
He took out the short gun he always carried. The short gun was wrapped in the black substance of the black spear. Zheng Yichen swung the black spear in his hand and thrust it violently toward the distant gorilla, a column of wind stabbing at the rampaging beast.
After the wind column hit the giant gorilla, a few strands of its fur broke off, but the skin was not much damaged. The moment the gorilla was attacked, there was an explosion in front of it. The sound didn’t reach Zheng Yichen, but the gorilla had already charged toward him.
It crashed through a building, which was covered in dense cracks, and eventually collapsed under the destructive force of the impact.
"What is... that?" Zheng Yichen’s eyes widened as he watched the charging gorilla. His clothes were torn by the airflow driven by the gorilla’s charge, resulting in a primitive fight, fortunately without bystanders present.
To Zheng Yichen’s surprise, a layer of distorted ’air membrane’ had appeared around the gorilla during its charge. It wasn’t a special power like Oma’s, but some other force.
Zheng Yichen also remembered the feedback from his initial sneak attack on the gorilla. The black spear had not pierced through the gorilla but had managed to injure it. However, draining its blood was like trying to draw from asphalt; possible, but slow and difficult. He estimated he had drawn less than two hundred milliliters of blood from that strike.
Afterward, the wound on the gorilla’s chest was squeezed shut by powerful muscles, stopping the bleeding. Now the gorilla displayed an extraordinary strength, making Zheng Yichen think of Inner Strength or Gang Qi, things you’d only find in martial arts novels. Even more far-fetched would be... battle Qi, fighting Qi?
The giant serpent was difficult to deal with, and this gorilla was no easy target either. Poison was no longer an option, and although the gorilla was blind, its hearing and smell seemed to be unaffected. Any major noise from Zheng Yichen would be detected.
The best course of action was to switch to another moving Alien Phenomenon and first take out the Alien Phenomenon creatures that he could more easily kill, using them as nourishment for his own growth, and then come back to deal with this behemoth after strengthening himself.
But he still wanted to try.
Verdant green flames spread out as the gorilla felt the scorching of Hellfire. It pounded its fists on the ground, the shock directly scattering the Hellfire on the ground.
Fucking hell, is this what high-level energy attack suppression looks like? Zheng Yichen watched the Hellfire scatter, taking a deep breath. Forget about hurting this gorilla with energy attacks; things like wind and fire could only play supportive roles now, and as for the power of lightning...
Zheng Yichen thought about it and a trace of lightning appeared on his body. The tingling sensation caused his fingers to twitch involuntarily, and he decisively gave up. He knew from various works that electrical stimulation could enhance physical performance, but it felt far from easy to do in practice.
At least, trying it just now only made his body twitch. He would have to explore this slowly in the future.
Putting aside the extraneous thoughts, Zheng Yichen’s feet were encircled by wind, making his movements silent. Even passing by tiny pebbles didn’t produce sound. The gorilla stood on the ground, its empty eye sockets ’looking’ around as its huge nose, rotted by poison, quivered slightly.
It continuously tried to catch Zheng Yichen’s scent, and its ears tried to capture any sounds around it. Zheng Yichen lightly flicked his finger, and a can lifted by the wind landed dozens of meters away, making a crisp sound upon impact.
The gorilla moved from stillness to action in an instant, rushing toward the can. The can, along with the ground where it landed, was smashed to pieces by a heavy blow. Afterward, similar sounds came from other directions, and after several consecutive distractions, the gorilla pounded a fist into the ground where a can lay.
As an amethyst inside the can shattered, a massive current erupted, coursing over the gorilla’s body and eliciting an uncomfortable hoarse roar from the creature.
Then a hissing sound penetrated the gorilla’s ears, causing its actions to briefly falter. In that instant, two black short guns stabbed into the gorilla’s hollow eye sockets. Congealed black blood clots shattered, and fresh blood gushed out.
Not a drop of that blood fell to the ground; all was consumed by the black spear. The gorilla, with its head lowered, used its eye sockets to prevent the long spear from penetrating further. Its body twisted, delivering a sonic-boom punch toward Zheng Yichen, who had sneaked up from behind.
The punch caused both black spears used for defense to shatter, and his arms emitted a crackling sound. He was blasted away like a shell from a cannon.
The successful gorilla relentlessly pursued him. Zheng Yichen, barely able to control his body as he landed, bit his teeth and dug his hands into the ground, leaving four long scratches. The ground cracked where the scratches passed, slightly slowing the gorilla’s speed.
Zheng Yichen took the opportunity to move and once more employed the wind to maintain his state of concealment, isolating his scent.
Almost killed by a punch, this was even worse than fighting larger creatures!
