"I'm curious," he admitted.

"Great! Let me know when you want to come. I'll send you a formal invitation."

"Unfortunately, I'm tied up at the moment. I still have tasks to finish."

"Tasks?" she asked, her interest sharpening.

"I have ongoing contracts to fulfill," Gin replied.

Her eyes gleamed with amusement. "You work hard, don't you? With those shields of yours, I imagine you're making quite a fortune. You must hold a significant stake in that business."

Gin gave a wry chuckle. "No matter how much you earn, expenses pile up faster than you'd expect."

"True enough," Kyrie agreed with a sigh.

"Unless you're born into wealth like I was, it's hard to escape financial burdens. Then again, even I'm bound by my family."

Though she mentioned her obligations, there was no bitterness in her voice—only quiet acceptance, perhaps even satisfaction.

"Let's coordinate schedules later," she continued. "Owen probably won't stay silent about this, so I'll need to inform him in advance."

Their conversation carried them to their destination, where they would wait for the next opportunity to unleash their magic.

Nearby, flames surged toward the Needle Giant, crackling like a living inferno.

Gin immediately activated his prepared spell.

BOOOOM!

As his weakening magic melded with the lightning and sank deep into the Needle Giant's body, the fire magic erupted in a brilliant explosion.

Yet despite his calculations, Gin frowned. The flames didn't penetrate as deeply as he'd anticipated.

'The efficiency is low,' he thought. Even though he had precisely targeted the giant's weak point, the destruction didn't reach the core.

It appeared that his weakening spell worked best when paired with lightning magic specifically.

Still, the spell wasn't entirely ineffective.

The path it carved allowed residual heat from the fire spell to seep inside the giant's body.

'How much time can I cut down using this method?' Gin quickly recalculated. The result: three hours—a vast improvement over the fifteen-hour estimate.

That's manageable, he concluded silently.

For now, Gin decided to conserve his strength. He was confident that if the others collapsed from exhaustion, he could finish the hunt on his own.

At last, after four relentless hours of combat, the Needle Giant crumbled with a thunderous crash.

THUD!

The battlefield fell silent. Weary mages and ability-users sprawled across the ground, too drained to stand. Only two remained standing without visible fatigue: Ban Gin and Phaela Lynchfield.

Gin appeared unnervingly composed—both physically and mentally unshaken.

"It really happened just like you said," Phaela remarked, gazing at him with admiration.

Had Gin not adjusted their strategy, the hunt would have dragged on for fifteen hours, likely resulting in catastrophic casualties. His predictions had been eerily accurate.

"How did you know?" she asked.

"I told you. I calculated it using the data I gathered."

"It's hard to believe it's that simple… but I'll take your word for it," she replied with a small laugh, shaking her head.

She bowed slightly and spoke in a tone of sincere gratitude. "In any case, we owe you. Without your strategy, we would have suffered greatly. Thank you."

Gin responded with a modest smile. Phaela studied him for a moment, her gaze filled with a mixture of respect and fascination.

It dawned on her that even the shields the bait units had used were of Gin's design. In truth, most of the credit for their victory belonged to him.

'I need to repay him,' she thought firmly. The Lynchfield family had a reputation for honoring their debts, and she intended to uphold that tradition.

As the others began to stir and rise from the ground, the group slowly approached the Needle Giant's fallen corpse.

"Shall we?" Kyrie asked.

Gin nodded, and the two walked side by side toward the massive body. The setting sun cast a warm crimson glow over them, creating a scene that looked almost like a painting. Behind them, the others followed quietly, captivated by the serene yet striking image.

"Up close, it's even larger than I thought," Gin muttered, breaking the silence.

"This is actually small compared to other giant beasts," Phaela replied with a grin. "There are far larger ones out there."

"Transporting it must be a challenge," he remarked.

"That's why we brought the buses. We'll attach the body to the trailers and haul it back to the city."

The preparation was meticulous. As they spoke, the ability-users secured the giant's body to a large platform using reinforced ropes and metal rings.

The buses soon arrived, and the platform was linked to the vehicles with heavy chains. Once everything was ready, the convoy departed, maintaining a steady formation to safely transport their prize.

Phaela casually took a seat next to Gin inside the lead bus, as though the spot had always been hers.

"Don't relax just yet," she warned. "Other monsters often try to scavenge giant beast corpses. We'll have to stay alert."

"Do smaller monsters gain power from consuming giants like this?"

"Not really," she said with a shrug. "At least, there are no confirmed cases. Still, better safe than sorry."

Gin considered the implications. Perhaps multiple feedings might produce some unknown effect. He made a mental note to investigate, his thoughts drifting to the carapace troll corpse he had stored in a warehouse.

'I should move that back to my house. No point in wasting storage fees.'

His musings turned to the reward for this hunt. In his haste to accept the contract, he hadn't even asked about the payment details. Money provides peace of mind, even for a mage, he reflected dryly.

The journey back wasn't without incident. Twice, wolf monsters attempted to ambush the convoy.

However, Gin's domain alerted him well in advance, and he swiftly neutralized the threats with pinpoint fire magic before they could disrupt their progress. No one in the convoy, aside from possibly Kyrie, seemed aware of his actions.

Her glimmering eyes, however, hinted that she might have noticed.

And thus, Gin's first great hunt came to an end—with a newfound ally in Lynchfield.
