Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 769: A battle of blades
Chapter 769: A battle of blades
"Shouldn’t we wait for Azazel?" One of the assassins asked as they stopped somewhere within the middle districts.
Another replied. "He will be fine. Our focus should be on delivering these ones safely."
"Agreed."
"Perhaps some of us should head back and aid him. From what I could tell, his opponent appears to be a Mystic."
"Alright then. You three head back and aid Azazel. The rest, let’s keep going."
"Understood."
With that settled, the ten assassins split into two groups, with three heading back to the lower districts while the remaining seven shared eleven bodies between themselves before making their way onward, with their most likely destination being the upper districts.
The three assassins soon arrived at where Azazel should have been.
Now, however, that same location was covered by a dome of black and white light, which they deduced to be a domain.
"Just what sort of Domain does the enemy hold control over?" One of the assassins asked only for a response to be heard from behind.
"Evernight."
It was a female’s voice, and upon hearing it, the assassins stiffened, shocked that someone had managed to sneak up on them.
Slowly, they turned only to lay eyes on a young lady with silver hair and pale skin.
Though she appeared breathtaking, she also seemed to be dead, which would explain why they hadn’t sensed anything until she made herself known.
The assassins exchanged looks before they all tossed smoke bombs to the ground, causing the area to be immediately covered in ash smoke.
Arwen made no effort to move, instead remaining in place with a mesmerizing smile on her lips.
Suddenly, one of the assassins revealed himself only to shoot a poison dart in her direction.
Alas, the attack never struck its target and instead, struck a burning rib cage that had manifested around Arwen at some point before the attack.
The assassin was stunned, and in response, Arwen grinned.

The assassins finally came to a stop outside a large manor.
If other residents of Sklaviunt saw the place, they would be quick to make out its identity as the building used to host the Bookkeeper whenever he came for an annual review of the state.
Of course, currently, the building was devoid of its intended occupant as the Bookkeeper only came around during Scholar’s Day, a holiday celebrated by Scholastica and all its sister cities.
They made their way into the building and swiftly walked into the main hall, where another group of Assassins was waiting.
"Where is Azazel?"
"He was forced to stay back. We encountered a bit of trouble."
"What kind?"
"A Mystic."
The assassins exchanged looks, well aware of what this meant for them.
If it happened to be a low lock Mystic, then there would be no reason to panic.
However, that would not be the case if it turned out the adversary was mid-level or worse, high-level.
They may be masters of espionage and concealment, but that was all they were.
"We have to move the cargo." One of the assassins that appeared to have considerable influence suggested the others in agreement.
There was a reason they had gone down this road, and due to that, they couldn’t allow anything to go wrong, especially now that they were so close.
"To where?" A voice was heard at that moment, causing all the assassins to pause.
They numbered over thirty in total, but none of them had detected the presence of the owner of the voice until they spoke up.
That, in itself, went to show just how problematic their opponent was.
Slowly, they turned and there, at the entrance to the manor, stood a pale-skinned girl with silver hair and a brilliant smile.

Meanwhile, back in the lower districts, within the confines of Eternal Night, a battle of blades was taking place.
On one end stood Azazel, current leader of the Assassins Guild and Apostle of the deceased deity, the Figure Hidden in the Shadows, and on the other end stood Charlotte, Ex-captain of the 25th Battalion of the Silver Knights, now Forever Knight serving under the Dark Lord himself.
They handled their blades with incredible flourish, their skills put to the test with each exchange that took place.
Despite her superior skills with the sword, Charlotte, however, struggled to deal the finishing blow as Azazel proved why he held the title of Ghost, even amongst his fellow assassins.
His control over Concealment, bolstered by the cloak left behind after the Figure’s demise, ensured that unless he wanted it, no one would be able to see him.
Alex watched the proceedings from above, having already suffered two attacks from Azazel, both of which ended in failure.
How much longer do you intend to watch this for?
Humphrey asked, with Alex replying.
"Long enough for Arwen to reach her destination."
After saying that, he unleashed Nyx’s Authority, causing Azazel to be forced out of concealment for a brief moment.
Unfortunately, that was all Charlotte needed to act as she crossed the distance in a flash and struck with such precision that all Azazel could do was block.
Even then, the blade sank into his shoulder, drawing blood and leaving him upset.
He immediately leaped back into being concealed with Charlotte attempting to use the blood she’d taken to pull him back out.
Unfortunately, that did not work, so she moved on to the next best thing.
Cursing the blood.
Of course, Azazel, quite aware of the possibilities of leaving his blood in the hands of a strange adversary, did not hesitate to attack in a bid to prevent whatever it was Charlotte had planned.
"Humphrey." Alex calmly called out, with Humphrey finally making a move.
He transmuted Azazel’s blood into water, ending his life in a literal instant as he drowned on his own ’blood.’
Alex then floated down with Humphrey following closely behind.
A worthy adversary.
Charlotte breathed out as she sheathed her blade.
"Don’t worry." Alex intoned as he snapped. "I don’t plan to allow his talents to go to waste."
