Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 735: A lone dreamer
Chapter 735: A lone dreamer
Despite being a Daemon, there was something about the fog surrounding the entrance to Twilight that left Sayda listless.
It wasn’t just about the biting cold that ate into her without mercy, freezing her innards with relative ease, or the complete lack of visibility that could not be remedied, regardless of what she did.
Everything worked to prevent her from discovering the entrance to Twilight by herself, forcing her to rely on Douglas and even then, she was left wandering blindly like a blind man in a busy city due to the almost faded map she was forced to make use of.
Of course, not everything was out to frustrate her as she realized with joy that within the fog, some portions of the map on Douglas’ back would reveal itself once they passed by it.
This way, Sayda made her way through, ignoring everything else as she focused on her goal; reaching the entrance.
Meanwhile, as Sayda made her way deeper into the fog, three other individuals had just arrived at the edge of the fog, with the leader amongst them, staring into the fog with a look of longing.
Unlike Sayda who was literally blind within the fog, his case was not as dire.
He could see, and even if he couldn’t, there was a faint yearning in his bloodline pulling him in.
As long as he followed it, it would lead him to the entrance but he didn’t make a move, instead clutching his cane as he took a breath to steady his nerves.
"Boss, are we going in now?" Hamon asked.
The man shook his head. "The chances that we either die or get turned into pets is quite high."
"So what now?" Anika inquired. "Do we wait?"
"Of course not." The man replied. "If she gets her hands on the Pearl, then it’s finished. We won’t be able to take it from her."
"So what then?" Hamon asked, feeling slightly frustrated. "We can’t go in neither do we wait. What’s the plan?"
The boss man remained silent, clutching his cane even tighter as he found himself unable to answer that question.
Of course, one could hardly blame him.
Their opponent was a divinity that would not hesitate to kill them should they stand in their way.
Against such an opponent, what was he, a lone dreamer, to do?
The answer to that eluded him.

"What do you plan on doing next?... Consolidate or carry out the next Trial?" Adam asked after unveiling Alex’s new title.
He seemed genuinely excited with a smile on his lips and an enthusiastic air about him, leaving Alex slightly uncomfortable.
"I’d like to consolidate." Alex calmly said after a few seconds of contemplation, catching Adam off guard.
"That’s a first. And here I thought you would decide to keep going."
"I’ve already learned what happens when one moves too fast," Alex said. "I’d rather not make the same mistake again."
"That, my friend, is quite commendable. Only wise men are smart enough to learn from their mistakes and actively try not to repeat them." Adam praised with Alex replying.
"I should get going."
"Of course," Adam said as he stepped away from Alex, prepared to send him back to Eventide only to pause as a thought came to mind.
"Ah yes."
"Hmm?"
"One last thing."
Alex raised a brow. "What’s that?"
"Beware the Night."
Before Alex could ask for an explanation, he was whisked away by a light breeze, which sent him back into his body on Eventide, causing him to gasp as he opened his eyes, swiftly finding Victoria looming over him with a sensual look in her eyes and a subtle blush on her cheeks.
Alex furrowed his brows. "What are you doing?"
"... It was cold." Victoria breathed out evenly. "I thought to keep us warm by sharing body heat."
Even the way she spoke was off-putting.
Only then did Alex realize that she was half naked and they were sharing a covering made out of mutant skin.
"... There’s hardly a need for that."
"Hmm?" Victoria blinked in surprise.
Before she could say anything else, Alex snapped, causing black and white light to engulf them both, transporting them to the last place Ana had been, a modest tavern room in Thespene.

What do you wish to do now, child?... You have the choice of pushing forward or, you could take some time to rest and recover?
Lilith asked as She watched Nadia slowly regain herself.
Nadia glanced at Lilith, then back at the title that had just been unveiled.
The fact that she had nearly lost her humanity at the fourth Lock caused her to grow frightened of the latter Locks.
What happens when she can no longer control it?
Would she lose everything?
Would she become like her mother?
Gulping down a mouthful of spittle, she muttered. "I would like to take the time to rest."
Smart choice. Even as the end is near, rushing you might have adverse consequences. It is for your benefit as well as mine that you get some well-deserved rest.
"Thank you, Mistress," Nadia said as she bowed to Lilith.
You are welcome, dear. Vessina?
Yes, mother?
Take the girl back. Impart in her some useful knowledge and send her on her way. Only allow her to return once she is ready.
Understood, Mother.
Till we meet again, child.
"I thank the Mistress for her eternal grace."
As soon as those words left her lips, the environment changed, and Nadia found herself back within the first floor of the Infernal Palace with Vessina standing beside her.
You did well. It’s rather surprising you managed to resist as you did.
Nadia pursed her lips as she asked. "Shouldn’t you be upset or something?"
Upset?... For what reason though?
"Wouldn’t it benefit you more if I lose my humanity and become a Devil?... I fought to keep my humanity, that’s enough to let you understand what I think of you and your sisters."
Vessina glanced at Nadia, the edge of her lips curling upward the next instant as she burst into laughter.
