Chapter 730: On the brink of conflict
Chapter 730: On the brink of conflict
How many times do I have to tell you to stay away from the Spirit World?... Is it until your life is taken from you that you would heed my warning?
The Witch was livid as she towered over Victoria, scolding her unabashedly while glaring at the vampire.
As far as she was concerned, once could be considered a mistake, twice was just outright foolishness.
The third time would most definitely lead to death, especially after the last stunt that Alex had pulled with Decad.
"You can’t blame her." Alex intoned with the Witch, shifting her attention to him, her anger still at an all-time high.
And who should I blame?... You?... Understand this, if we did not have a deal and I did not see a future in which you could be useful to me, I would not give two fucks about what happens to you.
"Whoa," Alex said. "Language."
The Witch went silent as wind speeds picked up, causing Victoria to rush to stand between Alex and the Witch.
"I made a mistake. I shouldn’t have opened the portal but you cannot expect me not to do so. Without the Spirit World, I am powerless."
Unfortunately.
The Witch muttered after which she took a deep breath while actively reducing her towering form until she was on the same height as Alex.
Currently, the trio were on a hill in the wilderness, far away from the valley Ifrit had ventured into.
Under normal circumstances, if the summoner was too far, the portal should close and the Spirit should return.
However, for a Greater Spirit like Ifrit, one couldn’t be sure if that rule applied to him.
As it is, after the last stunt you pulled, that has prompted Ifrit and Decad to take a more active approach in hunting you down. Don’t be surprised if the next time you open a portal, both Spirits come for you.
The Witch said, addressing Alex first, then Victoria, with the Vampire growing worried as she asked.
"What about..."
Your bonds?... They are currently staying with me. However, you might have just made them the last of their kind.
"Wait what?"
Decad wiped out the Kitsune and Feline spirits. I barely managed to save your bonds.
Victoria gasped as she took a step back, realizing belatedly just how close she was to losing everything.
Instinctively, she glanced at Alex, who had a troubled look on his face.
"I didn’t think it would come to this," Alex admitted.
The Witch let out a sigh as she replied.
Don’t overthink it. Ifrit and Decad have always been violent bastards. You guys just gave them a reason to reveal their true selves. As it is, the Spirit World is on the brink of conflict with the bastards doing as they please.
"Can’t the other Greater Spirits come together to stop them?" Victoria asked.
They don’t see the need. Save for four regions, including the Bogs, the fog lands, the volcanoes, and the woodlands, the other regions aren’t bothered about helping and even see this as an opportunity to extend their reach.
"So what now?" Alex asked. "I can see now that if we let this persist, it won’t be long before we end up getting into trouble."
You can’t take on a Greater Spirit now, especially Spirits like Ifrit or Decad. The best you can do is grow your strength. At least the 7th Lock, then you would be able to take them in a one-on-one and not die in the first move.
"What about my bonds?" Victoria asked with the Witch responding.
They are currently with me, but I’ll send them over in a bit. However, make sure they don’t return to the Spirit World. It’s not safe.
"I understand," Victoria said.
A moment later, a fox with a burning body emerged from the portal Victoria had used to summon the Witch, accompanied by a cat that appeared more like a tiger with tiny hands as furs.
Mistress!
The fox and cat duo rushed forward and launched themselves onto Victoria who embraced them with tears running down her cheeks.
This was one of those times when she let herself be vulnerable, after all, these were entities that had been with her for a very long time.
They were perhaps the only thing that mattered most to her besides the legacy of the Dark Lord.
Both The Witch and Alex said nothing for a while, allowing Victoria to have her moment with her bonds with smiles adorning their lips before finally, the Witch shifted her attention to Alex with the latter doing the same.
So, mind telling me why you called for me?
"I need your help," Alex replied.
With?
"Just like in Ra’as, I wish to project something across all of Henos."
I see.
"Considering there are no Otherworldly to tangle with and no red sky to fight against, I was hoping it wouldn’t be as resource intensive as last time," Alex said with the Witch shaking her head.
It won’t.
"Great," Alex breathed a sigh of relief. "So when do we start?"
Now. I do not have the luxury to stay away from the fog region for too long.
"Ifrit and Decad?"
Indeed. Those bastards could attack at any time and try as Basilisk may to appear tough, she would surely lose in a battle against those two.
"Fine then, ready when you are," Alex said.

Outside Thespene, two individuals were hidden in a nearby ditch, their heart rates at an all time high as they stared at the city walls, waiting for something with bated breaths.
Their eyes were filled with worry as time ticked by, the rays of the Nighteye serving as their only source of light.
Just as they began to lose hope, they saw a figure materialize, seemingly out of nowhere.
Though he was without his mask, there was no way they would mistake his identity and so with joy in their heart and relief in their eyes, they cried out. "Boss!"
