Chapter 719: An Apostolic battle
Chapter 719: An Apostolic battle
Little was known about the Hexad, even amongst the TruthSeekers.
Its origins, as well as its true nature, were unknown.
Perhaps, the only thing that stopped it from being regarded as the 8th mystery of the world was the fact that it was still being studied by modern scholars and other members of the academic community.
Since its discovery in the third era by Sir David the Third of House Belmont, his soul rest in peace, it had been instrumental in the growth of mankind.
The only entity as impactful as the Hexad to human development would be Khanna and even she appeared to be lacking when placed side by side with the Hexad that had helped with the development of the six core sciences.
Considering how influential it is, one would be forced to wonder why mankind didn’t regard it as a deity or why Khanna would risk helping the TruthSeekers by creating the Orb of Truth which aids the Seekers in communicating with the Hexad.
Well, it was simply because it wasn’t a deity... or rather, it wasn’t supposed to be a deity.
Yet somehow, it had managed to actualize divinity and now, as it breached the gap between dimensions, crossing from where it had been trapped for thousands of years into Eventide, it swiftly began to ascend, from Phantom to Demigod... from Demigod to Anti-God.
Its domain of the six core sciences stood in stark contrast to the Jester’s domain of foolishness, which meant it was a worthy adversary and perhaps even a worthy successor to the Goddess of Automation.
If only it were that simple.
Those who had held communion with the Hexad, who had been faithful in their quest to chase knowledge, suddenly found themselves being chased by knowledge instead.
From being a means to further human development, knowledge turned into a concept that sought to destroy those who came in contact with it.
"What are you doing?" Harlequin asked, completely dropping her coquettish act, revealing a distinct level of anger one would think foreign to her person.
Cybele grinned, her eyes filled with joy as she replied. "I’m not doing anything. Everything that’s happening now is all your Master’s fault."
"What are you talking about?"
Cybele offered no response, further aggravating Harlequin, who, albeit unwilling, decided to abandon a confrontation with her, instead rushing over to deal with the Hexad that was slowly entering their world.
"I wouldn’t do that if I were you," Cybele said after her, though Harlequin ignored her, instead, sending a mental message to her fellow Apostles.
The trio exchanged looks with one another, and after an agreement was reached, Auguste, Bozo, and Scarecrow gave up their lives, allowing the quarter masks they wore to hurry over into Harlequin’s embrace, swiftly merging with the mask she wore.
With an almost complete mask which had only her right eye uncovered, Harlequin borrowed the strength of her Master and with that power, fooled the Hexad, hoping to prevent it from entering Eventide.
Her plan worked but merely for a brief moment as the Hexad paused for a few seconds only to once again proceed with its entrance into Eventide.
Harlequin frowned, realizing belatedly that her authority would not be enough to stall the Hexad long enough for the Jester to awaken.
With that in mind, she sought a different means, and it soon came in the form of Alex, an individual who was currently wielding a GodKiller.
Harlequin fooled Alex, leaving him without a means to protect himself as she swiped the GodKiller from him only to realize once again, this time with a hint of annoyance, that she couldn’t properly wield the sword and the weapon was even repelling her.
"You." She turned to address Alex, relieving him of the foolishness she had placed him under.
Staggering back while struggling to regain himself, Alex fell to the ground on his buttocks, his gaze landing on Harlequin a few moments later.
"That..."
"Can you wield this weapon?" She asked while gesturing at Excalibur.
Alex nodded, to which Harlequin responded.
"Then use it." She said.
Just as Alex was about to respond, Cybele appeared and in the most brutal manner, assaulted him with information large enough to fry a genius’s brain.
Harlequin acted almost immediately as she struck Alex with foolishness, preventing him from understanding whatever it was that Cybele was shoving into his brain.
"I will not let you stand in my way." Cybele coldly said, her demeanor swiftly turning serious upon the discovery of Alex’s presence and that of the GodKiller.
Harlequin snorted as she tried to attack Cybele, with the latter doing the same by adjusting the vectors around herself to create an aversion field preventing all attacks, both physical, mental, and spiritual, from harming her, effectively putting a stop to Harlequin’s timely assault.
Unfortunately, even as they squabbled, Alex found himself unable to escape their midst, subjected to the dual concepts of knowledge and a lack of it at the same time, leaving him... confused.
It took almost everything within him to not forget his core being.
Just then, the Fixer rushed over, seeking to put an end to whatever schemes Harlequin and Cybele had planned.
As long as it involved another deity that would replace the Goddess Khanna as the supreme deity of Eventide, The Fixer, a loyal servant of Automation, could not and would not allow their plans to succeed.
Unfortunately, in a battle between Apostles, The Fixer... was severely outmatched.
All it took was a random strike from Cybele utilizing vectors, to send him flying, ultimately crashing into a tent and falling prey to whatever foolishness presided within the structure.
Just as the situation appeared dire for Alex, he instinctively stretched out his hand towards Excalibur, hopeful that it would cross the distance between them into his palm, and almost like the weapon heard him, it did just that.
Once it came into his grasp, Alex didn’t dare to hold back, immediately calling out with as much willpower as he could muster.
"EXCALIBUR!!!"
