Chapter 711: Good deeds pay
Chapter 711: Good deeds pay
Beautiful.
That was the one word Urian felt Thalia encapsulated with every facet of her being.
From her chestnut-colored hair to her brown skin to her athletic build and even her long slender legs... everything was perfect.
Naturally, he never dared to say this out loud, after all, it was treason.
How could he yearn for the wife of the King?... It made it no better that he was best friends with that king and was a close confidant.
But that relationship did not change his feelings for Thalia, hidden as they were.
As they made eye contact, Urian could almost feel her curves as he recalled that sinful night... it was one he wished could happen again and one he chastised himself for every night.
He betrayed his friend and for that, he was unworthy of forgiveness.
"I am here to see my husband." Thalia began, her calm tone sending ripples through Urian’s heart.
They had already broken eye contact but even with that, they both felt seen by the other.
"Is he in?" Thalia asked, taking the time to adjust her bearing.
Urian, breathless as he was, managed to string along a few words for a reply. "He is... but he is currently unwell."
"That is no problem, that is exactly the reason I am here," Thalia remarked. "I have not seen my husband in months. I would like to meet with him."
"It is merely for your safety, my Queen. You, above everyone else, should be aware of how he is when he is unwell."
"I do not care. You either let me in or I force my way in." Thalia coldly said, unwilling to back down.
Urian hesitated before ultimately taking a step back. "I will come with..."
"That won’t be necessary." Thalia pointedly said, leaving no room for further argument.
Once again, the two made eye contact, and briefly, their breathing pattern synced, their heart rates picking up with each passing moment.
His subtle touches, her moanful whimpers... "Step aside." Thalia intoned.
Urian said nothing, instead taking a step back and bowing in a show of respect.
Thalia regarded his bent back before turning away and making her way into the King’s chambers.

Leaving Victoria to watch over the Broken Saintess, Alex snapped while holding on to the Fixer, taking them from the inland valley they were in back to the border city-state of Pheripolis.
The first thing that stood out to them was the lingering wetness in the atmosphere, the next... the thousands of corpses that littered the once lively streets, illuminated by the soft glow of the Nighteye.
"This..." The Fixer could hardly believe his eyes, with Alex also appalled by the sight, though he managed to remain calm.
Taking a look around, the Fixer quickly put two in two together, causing his expression to turn even more sour. "This is the work of that bitch Ninmah!"
The aether reacted strongly, causing Alex to reach out and grab the Fixer’s shoulder.
"It would not do to draw unnecessary attention." He said.
In truth, the sight before him also left a bad taste in his mouth, after all, even though he hadn’t spent much time in the city, he saw no reason why they had to be wiped out in such a manner.
Men, women, children... none were spared.
The Fixer clenched his jaw, before ultimately letting out an emotional sigh. "You are right. Once the Goddess recovers, she will surely seek justice for the departed."
Taking a deep breath, Alex decided to put aside the matter concerning why they had arrived in Pheripolis to handle the corpses.
He could ignore them but he chose not to.
At least, let those who had died be put to rest more respectably.
A minute of silence followed as the duo paid homage with Alex snapping his fingers, an act that summoned Humphrey.
"Gather the corpses. We will give them a fitting burial." Alex calmly said with Humphrey nodding in agreement.
With one hand he transmuted the air and the other, he moved space, allowing him to transport all the corpses to the second step of the city state.
Then, he transmuted the wetness of the corpses, turning them into yellow flames that burned with a bright incandescence.
It was a cruel sight but then again, Eventide was a cruel world.
Alex had his hands in his pockets, his eyes reflecting the light of the flames as he pondered the notions of life and death.
Just then, he sensed something causing his expression to shift.
At the same time, the Fixer reached for his wrench while Humphrey looked around.
Suddenly, there were whispers.
But not the abyssal kind that drove one to madness and elicited a deep-rooted repulsion.
It was more the ghostly kind that brought fear to those who were unaware of the supernatural.
They seemed to be trying to communicate prompting Alex to take a deep breath while putting some space between his legs.
Following that, he bent down and looked between his legs, allowing him to see the origin of the whispers.
The spirits of those who had died all stood behind Alex, uttering the same phrase.
Thank you.
Alex trembled at the sight but ultimately got his wits about him as he remarked. "I need your help."
The spirits stopped speaking as they regarded him, with no words exchanged in the seconds that followed.
Alex then raised his head with the Fixer regarding him strangely.
"Where did you learn to do that?"
"Just a thing I came up with."
After saying that, Alex addressed Humphrey. "Create a special space capable of containing spiritual entities."
Humphrey nodded as he proceeded to do as instructed, transmuting air to create a spatial bubble that was quickly filled with white light that was swiftly darkening.
By the time the white light was done expanding, it had turned a milky white.
"They chose to risk becoming evil spirits to help you." The Fixer remarked, quickly realizing the source of the light.
"I guess good deeds pay after all," Alex said with a melancholic smile on his lips.
Taking one last look at the burning corpses below with a somber look in his eyes, Alex muttered a low thank you.
Then, he placed a hand on the Fixer’s shoulder and snapped.
A deluge of black and white swallowed them both a moment later.
