Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 593: "Fire"
Chapter 593: "Fire"
Robert felt the same way as Charles.
Ever since Arthur’s death at the hands of the Daemon they were supposed to hunt down, they had come to realize one thing.
They had grown lax, a bit too lax.
There was a time when Judah would not have been so daring as to send a Daemon to Zion, but they had done just that, and what’s worse, they succeeded.
This meant only one thing: it wouldn’t be long before they would come back, and what would happen then?
They had pondered it and Nadia’s speech on that fateful day when she barged into the council hall unannounced had made them realize that there was only one way to redeem themselves.
And even as it was suicidal, they were currently looking at the way.
Benedict roared as he shoved aside the anvil that had struck him but then another came and then another, each heavier than the last.
Charles was unrelenting in his assault while Robert’s arrow dealt with the ball of compressed gravity that Benedict had conjured, at the cost of a significant tear in the fabric of space.
Thankfully, Benedict wasn’t willing to take a trip to the void which was why he no longer dared to create another compressed ball.
Robert pulled back his bow, intending to let loose another attack but Benedict quickly changed back to normal, allowing them freedom to move as they pleased once again.
Hateful bastards.
Benedict cursed as he glared at the two Saints.
In truth, he could kill both if he went all in but he didn’t wish to risk falling into a trap and so left a way out for himself.
But then, he quickly noticed that the Saints were exhausted though he couldn’t tell if it was a plan to lure him in or the truth.
Either way, he had to do something to either force the Saints to flee or kill them outright.
Just then, Robert took a shot but the arrow veered off course due to the gravitational field around Benedict.
In response, Benedict sank Albanum.

Nadia waited patiently only to sense something causing her to turn back just in time to watch as a golden door was outlined in space before opening to reveal Elena as well as Arwen and a scarred Victoria.
Her expression shifted as she sharply questioned. "What are you doing here?"
"I told you we would come to help when you needed us the most," Elena replied.
"That’s not necessary. You guys should leave now."
"Why are you chasing us away?... We want to help." Arwen commented from the side.
Nadia sighed. "Because I’d rather not let you guys watch me kill millions."
Elena was about to respond, her expression the epitome of shock only for Arwen to burst into laughter, catching everyone off guard.
"Just that?... And here I thought it was something really difficult. If that’s all there is, then I would be more than happy to help."
"Arwen, this..." Elena tried to say something but Arwen stopped her.
"It’s all for Nadia, right?... We are all training ourselves, it’s not right we stop her from growing as well, right?"
"Arwen, that’s a lot of people dying," Elena remarked, clearly confused by the moral compass of the young lady who wished to conquer death.
"They deserve it. Didn’t you say that Kastarus was planning to invade Zion?"
Elena glanced at Victoria, hoping to hear her thoughts only to catch herself.
Victoria was the last person that would care about something like that.
Pursing her lips, she muttered. "I’m not sure if I want to partake in something like that."
"Then you can just stay back. I believe I should be more than sufficient to handle things." Arwen confidently said, causing Nadia to frown.
"Are you alright?"
She knew what she had to do to be able to stomach her atrocities but Arwen... why was Arwen okay with this?
"Enough with the questions. Let’s begin." Arwen casually said before moving to stand beside Nadia, walking with a gait notably different from her usual step.
Elena’s hands moved, but ultimately, she let things be.
She was just overthinking it, right?

There were those that hoped for independence for Kastarus.
Even though it paraded itself as a sovereign state, the fact that the Church could easily replace its rulers was enough to let them know that they were still under servitude to another.
A popular slur from nationals of other countries in Ra’as was that Kastarus was a colony of the Church and these people wished to change that narrative.
The locals called them mad, the Church branded them heretics, but regardless, they remained true to their wishes for freedom.
And Anderson brought it to them.
"It is time brothers." He announced using the radio he was holding, transmitting his words to others using a secret radio frequency BlackWatch had made to aid their strike.
Taking a deep breath, Anderson continued. "It is time to free our land from the Church. Even as we are about to sacrifice our brothers and sisters, know that it is for a good cause, for the freedom of our future generations. So let us not fret and carry out the wishes of the one that has provided us with a chance of freedom.
"In the name of the Dark Cloaked Devil!"
And then, he lit the fuse.
There was silence and then... an explosion.
***
Saint Hadrian’s Basilica had stood tall in Kastarus for hundreds of years, a sign of the Church’s hold over the country and a symbol of its first step in conquering the continent of Ra’as.
Its great walls had always stood as a beacon to the faithful, calling them to worship at the altar of the Only One God.
But today, those same walls crumbled, overtaken by an explosion that shook the entire city to its core.
Those on the street all simultaneously turned to glance at the church and in that moment, A single word escaped their lips at the astonishing sight.
"Fire."
