Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 574: Tyrant’s ambition

Chapter 574: Tyrant’s ambition

It had been almost three thousand years since Tyrant had come across a problem that confounded him and his unique capabilities.

His intelligence, stimulated by the constant electrical activity in his brain allowed him to think at ridiculous speeds and even split his attention without impeding himself.

But despite pushing his thinking capabilities to their limits, he couldn’t grasp the intricacies of the black hole before him that warped space-time.

Or rather, it wasn’t that he couldn’t, but that his instincts, honed over five thousand years of experience, told him that understanding the mechanism behind the hole would lead to two outcomes; madness or death, both of which were not ideal for him.

But even though understanding the black hole was out of the question, escaping was not but due to its peculiar properties, Tyrant found his authority over the Domain of Space put to the test as he struggled to navigate the constantly warping space-time to avoid being devoured by the hole.

He continuously teleported only to find himself back in his original position with the black hole steadily devouring everything while inching towards him.

Its suction force soon reached a level he could no longer handle and so, he decided to gamble.

He tossed Ana toward the hole with an expectant look on his face and as he surmised, the black hole quickly dissipated, allowing Ana to pass through unharmed.

Free of the warped space, Tyrant didn’t hesitate to teleport, channeling lightning through his body to move at almost light speed.

He appeared next to Ana and was about to grab her, only for time to slow down, causing his instincts to scream at him to dodge, but even as he tried to extricate himself quickly, the attack came even faster than anticipated.

Several chains pulsing between black and white light wrapped around Tyrant, creating a gravitational field that not even Tyrant’s spatial defense, which prevented things from touching him, could defend against.

Within moments, Tyrant found himself trapped causing his expression to turn ugly.

When?

He asked, utilizing dragontongue as a means of communication.

Seconds passed before someone responded, using the same dragontongue.

The moment you arrived here.

The voice was filled with melancholy, spoke of betrayal, and left Tyrant worried for what was to come.

Ana, once trapped within a temporal lock, stared blankly at Tyrant while floating in mid-air with draconic wings flapping behind her.

What now?

Tyrant asked and Ana replied.

I don’t know.

Tyrant’s expression shifted.

What do you mean you don’t know?... I tried to kill you, to devour you and make your power my own, to ascend to the realm of a Cryptid Ruler!... Yet you dare say you don’t know.

Ana’s lips quivered as she stared at the reptilian eyes of Tyrant.

Is that all there is?... Power?... You already have enough power, why do you need more?

Hah

Tyrant scoffed before adding in a condescending tone.

In a world where deities reside, you dare be satisfied with so little?... Foolish child. The quest for power is a neverending journey and only fools settle for less.

Ana replied.

I was ready to accept you as my family, ignoring your identity as a half-blood.

And Tyrant responded.

And that is your problem, not mine. I seek only one thing and that is power. Nothing else matters.

Ana found herself unable to give a response as she stared at Tyrant.

She knew she was being childish, that she was being a bit too idealistic but was that wrong?

In her thousand years of living, this was her first time coming into contact with something related to her ancestors.

Was it wrong that she wished to preserve it?... Of course not.

But it didn’t matter if it were right or wrong.

The fact that she would die if she let Tyrant live was all that mattered.

And so, with a pained expression, she muttered, using not dragontongue, but Razan.

"I’m sorry."

Just as she exerted her Will on the aether, Tyrant did the same causing a lightning forest to manifest within the space.

The chains dissipated at the same time not because Tyrant had broken free with his strength but because its owner had found himself in a bit of a pickle.

Time froze all around, pausing the lightning bolts while Tyrant roamed free, moving at almost light speed.

Ana kept pace, hastening her time just to do so though it took a toll on her, causing her to age faster than normal.

Her eyes traced Tyrant’s path, and she attacked, or at least tried to.

Tyrant moved too quickly for any of her attacks to land and due to his spatial defense, she couldn’t directly manifest a temporal anomaly on his body.

Clicking her tongue, she knew her current strategy was unsustainable and so, decided to take a risk.

She dropped it all and dramatically sped toward Tyrant, hastening her time to such an extent that for a moment, she surpassed the Mutant in speed.

Before Tyrant could react properly, having already sensed the attack, Ana entered into Tyrant’s mouth, after which his jaws clamped shut.

And then she entered again and his jaws clamped shut.

And she entered again, and... Tyrant didn’t need a soothsayer to tell him that something was wrong as he tried to dodge, only to have his jaws clamped shut again.

What is happening?

Instead of a response, he once again found Ana charging at him and then entering his mouth.

This continued for a long time, swiftly making it past the hundreds as Tyrant, time and again, clamped his jaw shut over Ana, trapped to relive this moment for an eternity.

Meanwhile, in a different place within the Drowned Palace, Ulysses was slowly inching towards madness as his hunger for souls became too much to bear.

Perhaps due to discovering an anomaly with him, the relic actively avoided him but that only made him more rabid as he swam deeper into the polluted water, dying and waking up while searching for souls to feed on.

Just as he arrived at his wits end, Ulysses fell out of the water body, quickly finding himself within a space brimming with the essence of destruction.
