Chapter 566: Sinbad and Udele

The Devil Wheel symbolizes destruction or at least, that’s what those who had studied it the longest felt.

It took thousands of years of constant study to come to such an ominous conclusion so few were willing to argue against it, especially when shown the evidence to back up the claims.

Mystics of this Wheel that favored women more than men, were usually considered the cause of most supernatural catastrophes that affected the male population.

In that regard, perhaps the Abyss Wheel was better in that it did not discriminate in its destructive tendencies.

In any case, like several others in Judah who were forced to learn the basics of mysticism while growing up, Nadia was also aware of the symbolism behind the Devil Wheel.

It was a cross she had to carry, one that she knew would constantly force her to do things that she felt were questionable at best and terrible at worst.

Which was why as she stood atop a building overlooking the bustling marketplace of Picenza, she hesitated.

She knew what she had to do, but she didn’t know if she had the strength to go through with it.

Was it worth it to sacrifice so many people?... Even if they weren’t citizens of Zion, that did not change the fact that they were innocent people.

Did they deserve to have their peace taken from them?

Of course not.

But if she didn’t go through with this, how would she get stronger?

If she didn’t complete the trial, how would she be able to take one step closer to becoming a Daemon?

The broken image of Arthur flashed in her mind at that moment, erasing the last bit of remorse she felt.

Taking a deep breath, she muttered softly in deviltongue while exerting her Will.

Denyen

Denying her emotions, Nadia’s eyes glossed over, completely devoid of emotions.

At that moment, she was like a machine, and machines did not have to suffer the pain that came with emotions.

This was why, in the state that she was in, she stretched her hand, aiming her palm at the people below before muttering in a mechanical tone.

Missa hystoria

Below, the citizens of Picenza went about their tasks with joyous smiles on their faces, happy to be freed of the horrors that the Month of Astra brought.

Little did they know that a different type of horror had arrived, one made to destroy the peace they enjoyed.

"I underestimated your hatred for me." A man said in a hoarse voice.

Sporting light blue hair and light makeup on his face with a lean but muscular physique, the man appeared quite handsome.

He was currently undressed with only his undergarments to hide his dignity.

From appearances alone, several would be inclined to consider him as a member of royalty and their consideration wouldn’t be wrong.

Alas, though he was in a palace, he was not seated on a throne and was instead chained to a pillar, forced to stare at the throne where a lady was currently seated.

Dressed in a typical pirate costume with some feminine touches, the lady appeared normal at first glance, but on the second, one would begin to notice several discrepancies like how her skin was pale like she had never seen the Lightbringer before, or how it seemed to be constantly dripping water.

But that wasn’t what stood out the most, neither was it the scar around her neck that seemed to serve as evidence of a decapitation.

No, instead, it was the polyhedron she held in her hand that pulsed with decadent life.

The lady glanced at the man and replied. "Indeed you did."

"To think that you’d get such a terrifying ally is commendable."

"There’s no need to waste your time with the praises, Sinbad."

"I am not praising you, Udele, I am merely stating facts."

The lady, or rather, Udele snorted derisively as she replied. "Well, save it. I am not interested."

"You understand that even if you succeed, which has a low probability of happening, Morgen will not just sit back and let you destroy the Enclave. He may have betrayed me but he cares more about the Enclave than I do."

"If he would be foolish enough to go against me, I’d be more than happy to put him in his place. I defeated even you, o mighty Sea Conqueror. I doubt a Sea King would be a problem. In the first place, it won’t be the first time I’ve been betrayed."

Hearing those last words caused Sinbad’s expression to change as he remarked. "I had no choice, Udele. It was either I did it or you suffered eternal torment at the hands of the goddess!... Don’t you understand that you blasphemed!"

"All I did was tell the truth and none of you believed me!... Including you, my so-called husband!"

Sinbad’s expression fell even further as he replied. "You didn’t have proof."

"I did; you just didn’t want to believe that the goddess that granted you everything is trying to destroy this world. Which is why you sacrificed our baby and me. Tell me, do you sleep well at night?"

"Would you rather I had let you be tormented for eternity?"

"I’d have rather you believed me, Sinbad!... You captured me with your own hands and brought me before the goddess!"

"I thought she would be merciful."

"I thought so too. It’s unfortunate that didn’t happen, right?"

Letting out a sigh, Sinbad intoned. "It’s not too late, Udele. Stop this madness at once."

"It is too late for that, Sinbad. Do you know why I became an Undead Wheel Mystic after my death?... Do you know what drove my subconscious?"

Sinbad had no response though he knew the answer.

"It is because of my hatred for you and the Enclave. So watch me, Sinbad. Watch me bring down the Enclave with my own two hands."

Saying those words, Udele placed both hands on the polyhedron and felt it.

The halls they were in seemed to react to her actions, letting out wails of misery that caused Sinbad to grimace and his muscles to bulge out.
