Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 500: Upon the throne
Chapter 500: Upon the throne
She returned to the cathedral once again to find the same unnatural shapes and sizes gathering around the pew.
She didn’t wish to look at any of them though she couldn’t even if she wanted to.
Her body was no longer hers to control as much as she tried to resist.
She felt violated whenever she felt the creature inside her belly move.
It whispered dark things to her, twisted things that caused her to wonder just what sort of monstrosity she was carrying in her womb.
The only thing that kept her going, that gave her the strength to not immediately try and kill herself was the thought that they were coming.
Just like they were strong, she wished to be strong like them.
And just like that, she soon arrived on the altar on which a throne forged from bones and cartilage was placed.
She suddenly found herself looking up even as she didn’t intend to do so in the first place.
Her eyes fell upon the man hanging from the bony stake and his eyes seemed to regard her as well.
A moment seemed to stretch into eternity as none said a word or rather, couldn’t say a word.
Finally, she withdrew her eyes and once again, gazed upon the throne made of bones.
Then, slowly she moved closer before turning to face the congregation.
Upon the throne she sat and moments later, thorns pierced her skin, drawing blood and leaving her no choice but to cry out loud.

Instead of BlackWatch, Lucille took Elena and the others to the Southern outpost as it was easier to chart the return course.
Thankfully, the chaos brought about by the headless horseman and his hordes of undead had since cooled down with the Enforcers now cleansing the battlefield.
"Commander, you have returned." One of the outpost captains approached only to spare a glance at Elena and the people inside the ridiculously large golden box behind her.
"Get the men to prepare some rooms for our guests. They need rest."
"Understood." The captain replied, once again taking a look at Elena before finally leaving to carry out the task assigned to him.
Taking a moment to catch her breath, Elena intoned. "He didn’t seem to be happy with the assignment."
"Doesn’t matter. He will do as I’ve commanded." Lucille intoned confidently. "As we wait for your quarters to be prepared, I must ask, now that the Dark Lord is dead, who shall take his post?"
Elena raised a brow. "Who said he was dead?"
"But..."
"I thought we agreed on BlackWatch, why did you bring us back to the one place closest to the Abyss?" A voice suddenly remarked from behind.
Lucille looked back only to pause for a moment as she found it hard to believe the sight.
"You..."
"Any problems?" Alex inquired as he crossed the distance.
"I thought you died."
"I did." Alex nodded. "Now I’m alive."
Lucille’s expression turned grim as she warned. "You are playing with forces far beyond what you can handle, Dark Lord. Life and death are not concepts you mess around with so casually."
"That I am very much aware of, now if you’ll drop the lessons, I need a map of the Empire and also the locations with the most damage."
"Why?"
"You seem to enjoy asking questions, don’t you?"
Realizing that she may be overdoing it, she decided to take a step back, at least for now.
Letting out a sigh, Alex watched Lucille leave before addressing Elena.
"Find a way to wake Victoria. I’m going to need her navigation skills in the Spirit World."
"Understood."
With that, Alex followed after Lucille.

"You called for me." Natasha intoned as she stepped into what was left of the strategy room in the Royal Blue headquarters.
There, standing over a pathetic representation of Parafall and the area around it was a distraught Leslie who seemed to not be as lucky as Natasha in escaping the disaster that befell the city unscathed.
"I did." Leslie intoned, unwilling to glance her way perhaps because he was too scared to meet her gaze or because he felt guilty.
Regardless, Natasha didn’t care as she came to stand with him.
"Our rations are low, communication lines are down, and the transport system is cut off. Most of our weapons are gone and the worst part is, we are lacking personnel. Our chances of surviving are slim."
"I see."
"I’m going to need you to go with a few men and strengthen the eastern wall with the cannons we have left, we need to keep those guys from reaching the city."
"Alright."
With that, Natasha turned and made to leave only for Leslie to call out to her again.
"I thought I was doing the right thing."
Natasha paused, taking a moment to let his words sink in before glancing back at him.
Just like her, Leslie was shaken by what he’d done.
To stop the riots, he’d pulled the same blade he’d sworn to use and protect the innocents to kill them.
It was a wonder if his Creed was still intact.
Regardless, she spoke truthfully. "Tell that to the ashes."
"..." Leslie gritted his teeth though he made no effort to respond.
Silence persisted until Natasha turned and exited the building, leaving Leslie to grapple with whatever uncertainties were plaguing him.

The map was in the strategy hall of the outpost with Alex and Lucille the only ones currently present in the structure after the latter had ordered the exit of all others.
"What do you wish to accomplish?" Lucille inquired as she watched Alex try to mentally map a course.
"It’s for a trial, that’s all you need to know." Alex intoned with Lucille nodding in understanding.
Just then, the doors into the hall opened with Victoria stepping in with Elena.
Though slightly disoriented, the vampire looked fine enough and that was what Alex was hoping for.
"Master, you called for me." Victoria intoned, taking the opportunity to go on one knee and bow.
