Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 433: There’s a crack
Chapter 433: There’s a crack
Silence reigned for a moment as Ana found herself at a crossroads, torn between hope for a future away from Ra’as and fear for what could be Alex’s final battle.
She had always known that the Vow she took during her younger years would come back to bite her.
It trapped her, with no opportunity to ever break loose from it.
Apart from that, it also ensured that the Family Heads held a certain level of control over her.
Of course, not all Family Heads, only those that were able to advance to the realm of a Battle God, and in this generation, Aiden held that title.
Regardless, she’d been terrified, unsure of what to do when the time came to leave the continent to journey to other lands.
She didn’t want to be abandoned... no, it had happened once before and she didn’t wish for it to happen again.
But the terror infused in her heart toward the Battle God due to the vow she took ensured she couldn’t handle the situation alone.
Hence, the reason she hoped Alex would be able to bail her out of the unfortunate situation.
But then again, never in her wildest dreams would she have expected him to be so brazen as to directly challenge Aiden to a bout.
No Mystic in their right mind, except say those of the Beast Wheel, would dare to challenge a Warrior Wheel Mystic, especially one who stood at the top of the Wheel without a trace of Divinity in them.
It was the same as a death sentence yet for some reason, Ana understood that this was the only way.
Aiden had no desire to let her go and unlike the time with the horrifying corruption that led to her losing half her strength, the Vow was instead connected to her Avatar.
Getting burned by Alex’s flames would be the same as surrendering her existence to the cold embrace of nothingness.
So, with no other option, she remained silent as she watched Alex stand up for her.
"With each successive dodge, I am entitled to ask a question but before you unleash an attack, you are also entitled to a question," Alex remarked calmly.
Aiden nodded. "I see. Fine then, are there any other rules?"
"None from my side, do you have any you wish to add?"
"Indeed, just one." Aiden intoned. "You may choose not to answer a question."
"... Fine then."
Aiden raised a brow, having not expected Alex to accept the proposal.
For the first time, he grew curious as to what Alex was playing towards.
He was clearly on the losing end yet he ended up placing himself under further duress.
"You may choose the site for the exchange," Aiden remarked.
Alex shook his head. "That honor should be yours considering you know these lands more than I do. So please, go ahead and choose a suitable spot."
"..." Aiden said nothing, instead turning to whisper to the maid beside him before he approached Alex.
Once at arm’s length, he grabbed Alex’s shoulder and a moment later, both disappeared.
Seeing this, Ana turned to take her leave, intent on ensuring Alex’s safety.
Just then, the maid called out. "Lady Ana, Lord Aiden wishes for you to remain."
"... I don’t feel like it." She intoned, trying but failing to infuse her charlatan manner of speaking into her words.
At this moment, worry marred her being and so, she didn’t bother trying again and without waiting for a response from the maid, she hastened her time and departed from the barracks.

"It is a rather intriguing sight, don’t you agree, Agnes?" Timon inquired as the Nesters walked through the sea of flowers, admiring the natural beauty it held.
Agnes snorted. "Why are you asking me?... I’m hardly a plant expert, ask Amara instead."
"Who’s talking about study?... He just asked for your opinion on the ambiance." Leonard remarked only to go silent as Agnes sent a glare his way.
Meanwhile, the plant expert, Amara, who was the only other female in the group of seven apart from Agnes, had already delved into her studies, her gaze scrutinizing the flowers which held similarities to dandelions albeit in different shades.
Ever the silent type, she made no outward deductions and instead, quietly put down some notes based on her observation before moving to join the rest.
"Anything peculiar?" Timon inquired with the brown-haired introvert shaking her head.
"I see. In that case, there’s no reason to worry."
With that, the group continued on their way until they arrived at the crystalline wall which looked to have been recently polished based on how reflective it was.
"I look good," Leonard remarked as he proceeded to admire himself on the mirror-like surface with Agnes sneering.
"Self-deceit."
"Don’t be jealous, it’s not my fault I’m so attractive."
"Just shut up and get to work."
As the two middle-aged fellows bickered, Anthony walked with Ulysses as they made preliminary deductions on the wall.
"It’s the same as the one in Henos. The only difference is that it’s deeper underground." Anthony remarked as he proceeded to place a hand on it. "It’s been deduced that it may serve as an entrance to the Abyss that some Davidians have claimed to be at the bottom of the world."
"Or perhaps it might serve as a seal for a force originating from the World’s End, something wishing to encroach on Eventide." Ulysses calmly remarked, earning a sidelong glance from Anthony.
"Recent researches have shown that there is nothing alive at World’s End, with some even claiming that dark space as the realm of Death, so it’s highly unlikely but then again, we have no equipment capable of peering into the depths so..."
Anthony trailed off as he noticed that Ulysses was no longer listening, his expression impassive as his gaze zeroed in on a portion of the wall.
"Is there a problem?" Anthony inquired as he knew due to his closeness to the deity they served, Ulysses had cultivated powerful eyes capable of seeing farther than humanly possible.
Ulysses remained silent for a moment before ultimately replying. "There’s a crack."
