Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 419: Accomodation
Chapter 419: Accomodation
Ana returned to Evernight with Arwen and Nadia in tow, appearing in the meeting hall for Constellations where Douglas was waiting.
"How is she?" Ana inquired, referring to Victoria as she walked over.
Douglas looked downcast as he replied. "I tried to wake her up but..."
"Do you have any idea what happened?"
"None. By the time I retrieved Ashtyx, she was already unconscious." Douglas replied before adding. "I’ve placed her in her room to get some rest. Hopefully, she’ll wake up soon."
"Don’t worry, I’m sure everything will be alright," Ana remarked as she placed a hand on Douglas’s shoulder.
Silence followed as everyone kept to their thoughts, ignoring the large glowing rock hovering silently at a corner.
As it was, tensions were still high as officially, the mission wasn’t done yet with two members left unaccounted for with another one in an uncertain state.
"Maybe we should go back," Nadia suggested only for Ana to reject it.
"It would be suicide. None of us are a match for the Emperor."
"So do we just leave him there?... Alex could be in danger," Nadia remarked before glancing at Arwen. "Back me up here."
"Well... I don’t think Alex is in mortal danger if I’m being honest."
"What?"
Pointing at herself, Arwen intoned. "Banshee, remember?"
"Ah..." Nadia quickly understood the situation but that hardly made it any better as she remarked. "Your death premonition only works if the person’s death has been sanctioned by the Emissaries."
"That... you do have a point."
Just as Nadia was about to say more, Douglas remarked. "I hardly think it is my place to say this but this is not the time for arguments. However, I do agree that we can’t just sit around and wait."
Ana pursed her lips before letting out a sigh. "I’ll go."
"What?"
"I’m the strongest in this hall and also serve as second in command of Constellations. I will go and check on the situation in the capital. You guys will stay back."
"But..."
"No buts. I’ve already said I’ll go and if you don’t agree, I’ll be more than happy to put you in stasis."
Silence followed as the trio stared at Ana, not expecting such sternness from her.
"Now you all will remain here while I return and..."
"Return where?" A familiar voice suddenly inquired.
Ana turned excitedly as she recognized the voice to be Alex’s own, her expression however quickly fell as her eyes fell on the man standing before Alex.
Trembling she took a step back as she inquired. "Alex, what’s going on?"
"Calm down, I’ve come to an agreement with the Emperor." Alex calmly intoned with an impassive expression on his facade.
"But..."
"I will need you all to leave for now." He quickly added in a tone that demanded acquiescence.
His gaze scanned the faces of all those present, discerning the fear they felt while ensuring they all grasped the gravity of the situation before remarking.
"Leave."
Nodding silently in agreement, they all excused themselves, leaving only Alex and Enoch in the meeting hall.
"Do you worry that I might take their lives?" Enoch inquired.
Alex nodded. "The thought did cross my mind."
"... As long as I get what I want, I shall harm no one."
"We’ll see." Alex remarked before proceeding to utilize the full extent of Nyx’s authority.
Immediately, the light in the hall seemed to dim to a ridiculously low level, leaving only the golden radiance of the Godstone as the sole source of illumination.
"I’m ready." Alex calmly said.
"Alright." Enoch replied as he took a step forward at which point, his entire appearance underwent a qualitative change.
His regal clothing disappeared only to be replaced by a white robe reminiscent of those worn by learned men from ancient Greece while his eyes glowed like two miniature suns.
His hair got longer while his skin was decorated by several golden lines of text and the demeanor he carried turned incredibly peaceful, radiating perfection in all ways.
Seeing this, Alex experienced a buzzing in his head causing him to look away.
Merely looking at Enoch’s back, a short phrase had been implanted in his mind.
"Prince of Peace..." Alex muttered softly as he found himself pondering the implications of that title.
Meanwhile, overflowing with divinity, Enoch took steady steps towards Ashtyx only to pause as his expression distorted.
Sensing something was off, Alex immediately utilized Evernight’s calming effect on Enoch, allowing him to regain his composure.
You truly are useful.
Enoch commented as he swept back his golden hair before pushing forward.
Alex remained silent while keeping his gaze on the floating Ashtyx.
Soon, Enoch arrived before it leaving Alex no choice but to look at the ground as perspiration peppered his forehead.
What he was attempting to do was risky but did he have a choice?... Not at all.
Taking deep breaths, he calmed his erratically beating heart while hoping for the best.
I will begin the process.
Enoch announced before reaching out to the Godstone and placed a palm on it.
The next moment, the stone slowly began to reduce in size until it was the size of a pebble, then, after a moment’s pause, Enoch swallowed it.
Boom
The explosion of divinity was enough to send Alex hurtling away with the entire hall shaking like an earth shattering earthquake had occured.
Enoch erupted in pained screams as a pillar of resplendent light erupted about him, lifting him off his feet as he seemed to undergo an out of body experience.
Alex groaned only to watch as the hall began to split apart due to the immense force being exerted by the accommodation process.
Clutching his chest, he slowly rose to his feet and snapped repeatedly, utilizing Nyx’s authority in tandem with Evernight to calm Enoch’s mind.
At first glance, it worked well for the Emperor, allowing him to resist the violent divinity flowing through him and so for a moment, he glimpsed success.
Alas... it was merely for a moment.
"Eaaahh!!!" Enoch screamed in terror as what seemed to be an illusory version of him tried to emerge from his face.
