Chapter 407: His Majesty awaits

The journey to the capital was mostly done in silence as Nadia and Arwen enjoyed the sights riding on Ana’s back afforded them.

Soon, they arrived at their destination, landing several meters away from an airship bunker located close to the towering walls of the capital.

"What now?" Arwen inquired as she watched Ana regain her human form.

"... I don’t know," Ana replied honestly, knowing that hiding her true feelings would not help their case.

Noting her demeanor, Nadia asked. "Are you okay?"

"...I should be."

"Perhaps we should go back and..."

"No," Ana remarked. "It’s fine, I’m just... not in the best state right now. But I’ll be fine."

"If you say so." Nadia conceded.

"I do. Now then... how exactly can we cause trouble?"

Shifting the topic, Ana turned to scrutinize the hanger ahead, noting that it stood eerily quiet with not a single person in sight.

"Perhaps we could blow up a few airships?" Arwen suggested with Nadia glancing her way with an incredulous look.

Ana pursed her lips before calmly intoning. "Let’s do that."

Not waiting to get an affirmation from Nadia, Ana opened her palms, causing two temporal orbs to emerge instantly, after which she sent them hurtling toward the distance before impacting two airships.

The next moment, the temporal orbs expanded, mimicking an explosion though the intended effect was for the affected objects to fade away into dust.

It worked briefly only for pixelation to occur followed by the recreation of everything destroyed.

The three women stared ahead in shock.

"What just happened?" Arwen inquired, unfamiliar with the phenomenon.

Nadia remained silent while Ana immediately tried to reach out to Alex to inform him of the situation only to be met with silence.

A connection hadn’t been established by Alex and Ana didn’t think it right to disobey Alex’s order considering she had no idea why he gave it in the first place.

"What now?" Nadia inquired, turning to Ana for a solution.

Ana paused, realizing that with Alex unresponsive, she had to take the lead and she was the worst when it came to leadership roles, especially considering she was still struggling to maintain her calm despite the deep-seated terror in her heart.

Taking a deep breath, she ultimately responded. "We test the extent of whatever that was."

"Understood," Nadia remarked as she took a step forward and raised a palm in the direction of the hanger, then she spoke.

Totalitas ruina

A crisp crack followed after which everything in her line of sight completely vanished without a trace with even the concept of space taking a hit as minor cracks occurred.

Ana was left silent and Arwen gasped in excitement.

"Whoa, big sis, you got stronger!"

Nadia turned back, a faint smile on her lips.

However, before they could celebrate their minor victory, the pixelation occurred yet again.

The Serving Glory Manor which was what the Augustus family called their home was hardly ever filled with people as the Augustus kept a small family, unwilling to pollute their bloodline too much by expanding needlessly.

They only procreated when needed, abstaining from carnal relations at every other moment, instead opting for tasks that would glorify He whom they worshiped.

Also, because of their hidden nature, they never considered the fact that they would be infiltrated, after all, what did they have that would interest anyone?

They were merely servants of the Crown and nothing more.

This was why no security was in place when Victoria and Douglas got in, utilizing the Great Spirit, Old Hag, to navigate the environment unseen.

Soon enough, they arrived at the main hall of the largest building in the compound.

Stepping in revealed a great hall with nary an occupant in sight.

At the center of the hall were two ice coffins that held the corpses of those who were most likely members of the Augustus family.

They went around, ensuring not to get close to the altar as they got to the other end of the hall where two unlit candelabras were kept on the wall.

Pulling on them simultaneously revealed a secret passage with no light source to help with visibility.

Of course, the darkness only posed a threat to humans as with Night Kindred like Victoria and Douglas, such locations were just their kind of place to be.

Without hesitation, they proceeded into the tunnel, watching it close once they had gotten off the last step.

Plunged into absolute darkness, the two surged forth with a destination in mind.

Unbeknownst to them, an old man with an odd appearance stepped out from behind a pillar, his gaze trained on the tunnel entrance.

The great hall stood as a testament to the greatness of the empire with mighty pillars holding up the pointed roof, a detachment from the usual flat roofs Alex had seen in his sojourn so far in Ra’as.

The walls held several murals depicting various times in the Empire’s short but illustrious history with gas lamps ensuring that the edifice remained illuminated.

But despite the incredible show of opulence and grandeur, there was not a single guard in sight, same with maids.

The hall was so silent that it caused Elena to grow rather sensitive, her eyes darting about as she feared some strange creature might pounce on them at a moment’s notice.

Alex managed to keep his cool as he marched on into the throne room where he found a middle-aged white-haired man waiting to receive him.

Feeling discordant, Alex felt the man familiar though the difference from what he was familiar with made it difficult to pinpoint where he’d seen him before.

"Alexander Regulus, His Majesty awaits you in his chambers." The man spoke cordially though a deep-seated madness shone in his calm gaze.

"Will you be leading us there?" Alex inquired with the man shaking his head.

"Unfortunately not, His Majesty wishes for me to take a stroll, he says there are a few troublemakers to be dealt with outside the city."

Alex paused, for some reason, the wording used seemed suspicious.

"I see."

"Then, please you may head that way." The man remarked while pointing in a certain direction which led to a long-winded hallway.

"Thank you," Alex remarked before heading toward the hallway with Elena following closely behind.

Meanwhile, the man watched them enter before heading out of the throne room with his fingers twitching.
