Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 354: Black and White
Chapter 354: Black and White
It was getting somewhat tiresome.
Alex tried his best to ignore it as much as possible but when it became impossible to ignore, what was he to do?
That he had to deal with this while also trying to handle the Supreme Order was getting quite vexing.
But he knew that lashing out would only make things more difficult, which was why even as the students in the hall all got to their feet, poised to leave, he only watched before ultimately inquiring.
"Where are you all going?"
Some exchanged looks before one, a blonde-haired female with rather mature characteristics, spoke up.
"Leaving, professor. Our letters have made it clear that we stand in solidarity with Professor Albus. Return his position to him else you can forget about teaching this class further."
Alex sighed, massaging his temples as he remarked. "And what do you hope to achieve with this?"
"Justice, Professor. Professor Albus has been labeled a criminal by the college and this isn’t fair. We will not watch as an innocent man is treated this way."
Alex pursed his lips, realizing that he couldn’t even stay angry at the students.
The fact that they were standing in solidarity with Albus was something worth applauding.
One would think that as they were children of influential families, they wouldn’t care much about anything else apart from what affects them.
Regardless, he wasn’t about to let them have their way and so, calmly intoned. "I understand your grievances but..."
Boom
An explosion served to cut off the rest of his statement, drawing his attention and by extension, the rest of the class toward a section of the school wall.
Over there, faint wisps of what looked like flames danced in the wind but it was strange as instead of yellow or blue as most were familiar with, the flames burned with an intriguing black and white hue.

The street, once shrouded in relative peace was now the spitting image of pandemonium as the area was engulfed in chaos with civilians fleeing in a bid to protect themselves while Royal Blues tried their best to strike down the enormous beast standing before them.
It was a monstrous beast, standing over 10 feet tall, possessing three dog-like heads and a body that seemed to burn with esoteric black and white flames.
Roaring, the beast ignored everything about it as it rushed at the wall, striking at it in a bid to bring it down.
Its first attempt caused a great tremor that left marks on the wall.
Utilizing their steam rifles, the Royal Blues present shot at it but unfortunately their bullets went right through, instead, striking at the wall they were meant to defend.
Already confused, they were unable to notice that despite the monster’s aggressiveness, apart from the wall, it did not attempt to destroy anything else or harm anyone.
Just then, the sound of iron wires shot out from steam gears echoed not too far away, heralding the approach of the Academy Defenders.
They moved in the air with finesse, wielding beautifully crafted ebony blades.
The first two, one of which was a woman with a stern expression, quickly approached the monstrous dog and without hesitation, swung their blades.
There was no cry of pain but the sudden attack caused the monster to twitch, its flaming body rippling before reducing a bit, revealing the effectiveness of the Quillion the Defenders held.
"Protect the citizens, we’ll handle this." The woman ordered the Royal Blues with the latter group immediately obliging.
Meanwhile, more Defenders arrived until there were 12 of them, each equipped with the same ebony blades and steam propulsion mechanisms hanging from their waists.
Seeing as how the monstrous dog paid them no heed, instead focusing its attention on breaking the wall, they immediately decided to attack at once.
However, before a second attempt could be carried out, one of the dog heads turned to face them, its eyes devoid of any killing intent, instead reflecting what could only be described as an annoyance.
Unsure of what to make of this, they kept their positioning, poised to attack when suddenly the dog disappeared.
Its body dissipated into black and white flame tongues before disappearing completely, leaving them confused.
"What just happened?" Exchanging looks with one another, they seemed poised to carry out an investigation when yet another explosion occurred, this time from the western portion of the wall.

The entire school was tense, watching as one monster after another emerged on the cardinal points of the academy wall, each one attacking the wall with the sole intent of bringing it down.
One was a draconic beast with several serpentine heads that breathed corrosive flames, another was a monstrous lion with wings and a mane of roaring flames while the last was a horse-like creature with a horn and wings.
The Defenders responded as quickly as they could but due to how the monsters would immediately dissipate when they got too close only to emerge in another area, they could hardly keep up.
Ultimately, the barrier was raised.
All Alex felt was a faint fluctuation in the aether before the barrier unfolded, resembling a honeycomb with a green hue as it covered the entirety of the Academy.
At this point, the same students who were in solidarity with Professor Albus just a moment ago were now overwhelmed by panic as they sought shelter despite still being in their classes.
"Everyone calm down, the monsters won’t be able to enter," Alex remarked in a bid to assure them only for him to regret his words a few seconds later as black and white flames suddenly engulfed the barrier, causing it to instantly degrade.
Pursing his lips, he looked at the students who were staring back, their expressions revealing their innermost thoughts, most of which were not in Alex’s favor.
He coughed awkwardly as he remarked. "Let’s just wait, the Defenders will surely handle this."
With that said Alex turned his attention to the situation in the academy, eager to see how the Order would respond to the situation.
