Chapter 308: May Evil Prevail

Chapter 308: May Evil Prevail

Everyone has dreams.

Some wish to be powerful people, others wish for riches and some others wish for love.

Hala was also a dreamer but unlike the majority, her wish wasn’t for herself but for others.

She could still recall her growing up years, having to suffer the discrimination of being a half-blood at the hands of the true-blooded, those that had felt the touch of the Goddess and were transformed.

Her Elven mother and human father, despite everything, had always worked to help others, suffering persecution at every turn.

Hala had once asked why they did what they did to which she received the simple response. ’Because we can.’

It wasn’t some grand reason nor was it a big deal but that caused Hala to look up to them as heroes.

This was why on that day, out of the many true bloods that had gathered in the Goddess’s kingdom to be chosen as the new Mouthpiece, she was joyous, not because she was chosen, but because she had been given an avenue to make her dreams come true.

The Mouthpiece of the Goddess was a position even above royalty in Isena Thalore so naturally, very few true bloods were willing to accept the Goddess choosing Hala.

The first few years were tough but as the true bloods began to warm up to her, Hala knew that it would only be a matter of time.

She dreamt of a utopia, one where both half-bloods and true-bloods would be able to live under the guidance of the Goddess.

Unfortunately, like several others, her dream was not to be fulfilled as the prophecy was delivered, plunging the whole world into despair.

Hala was devastated, her mind a mess as she wanted it all to be a lie but of course, that was merely wishful thinking.

So she beseeched the Goddess, hopeful that she would provide a means to save her children.

And it was at that moment she realized that something was wrong.

The same Goddess that had always been responsive, turned silent causing Hala to grow frantic with each passing day.

She prayed and called out but the Goddess never once gave a sign that she heard her cries.

So Hala decided to journey to the Goddess’s kingdom but what she got was nothing... the Goddess refused to meet her.

That was when the crazy thought that the Goddess had abandoned Isena Thalore came to mind but Hala didn’t want to believe it.

She went around, from her second in command to the Elven king and even the Fairy Queen, hopeful that one of them would be able to convince her that the Goddess would never abandon them but none dared to entertain the possibility, even kicking her out for blasphemy.

But Hala knew... she knew that the Goddess had abandoned Isena Thalore.

So she began to spread the word, organizing meetings and doing all she could to get the others to understand that the Goddess had abandoned them but none listened.

They all trusted in the Goddess too much to see that she was no longer with them.

"They called me mad for my efforts," Hala muttered softly as she regarded the group of four gathered before her.

Just as she made to continue, the redhead amongst them remarked.

"Sorry."

"... What?"

"It must have been a difficult time for you, right?"

"... What?"

Just as the redhead wished to say more, the strange man with a peculiar aura remarked.

"Ana, stop talking..."

Hala blinked a few times, struggling to make sense of what just happened before shaking her head. "All I wish for is to finish what I started. Isena Thalore will rise again and this time, it would be perfect."

"And you wish to do this with the help of the Abyss?" The peculiar man remarked.

Hala nodded. "Alone, I am unable to do much but with ’He’, there is no reason to worry."

"He?"

"Indeed. His name is too holy to say but his epithet reads as the Greatest Evil beyond the Veil."

"A first-class Otherworldly." The redhead muttered, her expression shifting to a deep frown.

"Ah yes, I learned of the peculiar way the new generation refers to denizens of the Abyss but you are wrong, He is not just an Otherworldly, he is how a God should be."

"Alright, that’s enough." The wolfman finally spoke.

It would seem he had managed to regain himself after his initial reaction.

Hala said nothing as she regarded him, her lips pursed as she waited for him to speak.

"I will only ask once; retrieve the corruption destroying the Wandering Forest. Isena Thalore is dead, but Aragon is very much alive and I will not allow what my ancestors have built to get swallowed up by the Abyss."

Hala grinned as she retorted. "But your kind seems to have borrowed a lot from my people to even exist. It’s only right that we take back what was once ours."

"I will not ask again. Stop this madness."

"Quite unfortunate. I doubt that is any way to speak to your ancestor."

"Do not dishonor the name of the great Viracocha!"

"Your creator stole from the Goddess to get the power he used so you’d best not test my patience."

"You..."

"That’s enough!" The peculiar man remarked, putting an end to the back and forth.

Taking a step forward, he addressed Hala. "Will you not take back the corruption?"

"Isena Thalore will be reborn and I will be the one to facilitate the process."

"At the expense of innocents?"

A tiny smirk formed at the fleshy corner of Hala’s lips as she replied. "You and I both know you don’t care enough to ask such a question."

"..." The peculiar stayed silent, his eyes flickering with uncertainty for a moment before he remarked. "Then I guess there’s nothing more to be said."

"There never was."

Crack

Hala shifted her attention to the wolf man, who no longer saw a need to withhold his killing intent, his irises quickly taking the form of slits as he glared at her.

"There will always be opposition but it doesn’t matter. The time has come and nothing shall stand in my way."

With those words, Hala let out a deep sigh, her arms spread wide as she embraced the wind.

At the same time, several towering pillars shot up from somewhere below, casting down shadows on the island.

As the group prepared to attack, Hala muttered. "May Evil prevail."
