Chapter 157: And the hunt begins
Claudia’s heart ached as she watched Arwen fall unconscious after the silver light died down.
If only she hadn’t wasted time outside in the Extensions, she would have been around to stop Arwen from her craziness.
Of course, crying over spilled milk wouldn’t solve anything so despite her heartache, Claudia decided to make up for her blunders with her future actions.
At least until her father came for her, Claudia decided to keep a close watch on Arwen.
Hopefully, their conversation tonight struck a chord with Arwen, convincing her to stay away from danger whenever she was alone.
Just then, Elizabeth spoke up, jolting her from the thoughts roaming freely in her mind. "The corruption has been taken care of."
Letting out a sigh, she added. "Thankfully, it hasn’t eaten too deep into her pneuma."
"Thank you for saving her and I’m sorry for not keeping an eye on her," Claudia remarked.
Elizabeth glanced at her as she replied. "No need for that. You also have your own life to live. Unfortunately, Arwen is a bit too engrossed in her work."
There seemed to be a hidden meaning to her words as Claudia dropped her head.
Looking her over, Elizabeth soon turned away and refocused her attention back to Arwen and after ensuring her pulse was stable, rose to her feet.
"Take her to her room, Ada," Elizabeth said.
Claudia quickly spoke up. "Her room was the origin of the attack."
"Is that so?" Elizabeth muttered before addressing Ada yet again. "On second thought, take her to another room. She needs a good night’s rest."
Ada nodded in response as she moved over and picked up Arwen in a princess carry before taking her up the stairs.
Once she was out of sight, Elizabeth turned to Claudia and in a casual tone, inquired. "What happened here?"
Claudia took a deep breath before she gave a retelling of the events that occurred before Elizabeth’s arrival.
For reasons unknown, she found herself removing aspects with Kane and instead attributed the win to herself and Arwen.
"You both defeated a Slenderman?" Elizabeth asked with a raised brow.
"We were lucky."
"I highly doubt that," Elizabeth remarked. "You both have neither the skill nor capacity to deal with such a troublesome adversary."
"That..."
"Why are you lying?... Was there a third party here?"
"Well, you see..."
"I can sense the residue. It’s similar to the aura your kind gives off, especially during the nighttime."
"Ahem..." Coughing awkwardly, Claudia found herself unable to lie any further.
Elizabeth looked her over before asking again. "Will you tell me or do I have to investigate myself?"
"I..." Claudia gulped hard before she remarked. "I’ll tell you."
"I’m listening."
"... He said his name is Kane," Claudia answered.
"Kane?" Elizabeth raised a brow. "A fellow Vampire?"
"... Yes."
"That was a lie." Elizabeth promptly replied. "Why are you lying so much today, Claudia?... Also, why do I feel like you are scared about something?"
"... It’s because you may not like what I say next."
"I would rather not have to take drastic measures, Claudia. Do refrain from lying any further." Despite the calm with which she said it, Claudia could not deny the underlying threat hidden within Elizabeth’s words.
"...It was the Night King."
Elizabeth’s eyes flickered before she slowly made her way to Claudia.
"Please..." Claudia muttered as Elizabeth grabbed her shirt and pulled her up to eye level.
"What was he doing here?"
"He..."
Before she could complete her sentence, Elizabeth tossed her aside as she seemed to have realized something. "So Damian was indeed correct, the Night King exists and he is making moves in the background. If I wasn’t told, I’d have never believed but now..."
Trailing off, Elizabeth pulled out a paper sketch from her breast pocket and dropped to one knee to show it to Claudia.
"Is this the Kane you mentioned?"
"...Yes," Claudia replied apprehensively.
"Where did you meet him?"
"... The 11th Extension."
Elizabeth nodded in understanding as she rose to her feet.
"Watch over Arwen for me till I return. I have to take care of official matters."
With those words, she turned to take her leave only to pause as she felt an arm dragging her leather trouser.
Glancing down at Claudia, Elizabeth raised a brow, slightly confused at Claudia’s actions.
Pursing her lips, Claudia remarked. "The Night King is a good man... he saved me and Arwen."
It wasn’t that she knew what Elizabeth wanted to do, but Claudia wasn’t dumb enough to not guess what would happen if Elizabeth met with Kane.
If possible, if there was the slightest chance that conflict could be avoided... Claudia wanted to make it.
Unfortunately, Elizabeth did not share the same sentiment as her as a pitiful expression appeared on her face.
"You still dream of a day when humans and Cryptids can stay together but that’s not possible. The Night King is a disaster for the human race and do not act like you do not know this. You may be young but you are not stupid."
"Please..."
"Watch after Arwen... I’ll be back."
Elizabeth did not entertain Claudia any further as she bent down and removed Claudia’s hand from her trouser before turning to leave, closing the door with a loud thud as she stepped out of the house.
With a complicated expression, Claudia was left wondering what would happen now.
"... What do I do?"

Booker sat in his office, a place from where he controlled the black market of the 11th Extension for 20 years.
Once a place brimming with activity, it was completely deserted now.
So many years of hard work went down the drain in the blink of an eye.
He couldn’t still believe that not too long ago, he sat in this same chair, controlling a portion of the underworld in Krobridge.
Now he was forced to live as a mere informant of a bastard that held the power to have prevented that outcome but did nothing about it.
Booker’s hatred was somewhat justified but then again, Kane had no reason to act.
It was that very reason that infuriated Booker even more.
If only he had the power and authority to do what he wanted.
He had avoided the supernatural world as he knew just how dangerous it was but with everything that happened, he regretted not taking the opportunity when he had the chance.
Clicking his tongue in annoyance, he looked down at the vial before him.
It was a small bottle with a blue-black liquid within, pulsating with a strange yellow light.
Gulping nervously, Booker reached out and picked up the vial.
"All it takes to become a Mystic is this little bottle." He muttered as he stared at it with a complicated expression.
Taking a deep breath, he opened it up and closed his eyes, preparing to take it.
Bam
The door flung open, startling Booker quite a bit.
As he opened his eyes, the vial still in hand, he watched as Vampires donning silver armor and wielding lances marched into his office.
He immediately went wide-eyed at the sight.
Soon enough, 12 Vampires stood about him and a moment later, a female Vampire waltzed in with a familiar face.
Ignoring the fear in his heart, Booker’s blood boiled furiously as he growled with bloodshot eyes. "Finnick."
