Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 102: Sword of God

Chapter 102: Sword of God

Alex hadn’t seen enough of Eventide or even learned enough to make an adequate scale on the level of power in this world that abounded with supernatural phenomena.

However, never could he have imagined a day when he would watch not just a city getting erased from the Earth, but also the landscape changing as a result of a single collision.

Supernatural creatures that had powers rivaling the destructive capabilities of an ICBM, that was what he was watching at the moment and he couldn’t help but ask.

"Isn’t this a bit much?"

Of course, it wasn’t a question meant for anyone to answer.

In any case, realizing the situation, he quickly unleashed Eternal Night on the citizens behind, causing them to fall asleep before turning his attention back to the battle on the horizon.

"Smart move," Arthur commented from behind.

Meanwhile, the red beam that struck the emerging light quickly dimmed after a while but despite its power, the emerging light remained unscathed.

Once the light reached its peak, it dissipated revealing an enchanting sword that was almost as large as a skyscraper.

Alex’s jaw dropped at the comically large sword. ’What the hell?’

"Oh my goodness, the Sword of God made an appearance!...the King of Angels answered our call!" Father Anderson excitedly said.

’You are a bit too unreliable!’ Alex sighed inwardly.

The sword that appeared, gleamed in the rays of the Lightbringer, revealing strange symbols etched into its blade.

There was no one holding it, or at least it seemed that way but as Penemuel stared at it, it seemed it was staring at a certain figure that remained hidden.

In a language that caused everyone apart from Alex to pass out, Penemuel called out to the sword, or at least, it seemed that way.

Alex watched Arthur, Ambrose, Carl and Nadia as well as Father Anderson and his entourage collapse with blood leaking out of their ears.

Frowning as an annoying headache assaulted his senses, he pondered for a moment before gathering them with the civilians and placing them in Eternal Night.

He then turned his attention back to the scene in the distance.

After Penemuel was done talking, the Sword of God was slowly raised and in a single swing, it cut down the mighty angel.

Alex watched its body split apart and fall but what bugged him was that the angel had not fought back.

After the red beam it shot, it seemed to have given up hope and just stood there and allowed the sword to cut it.

And what had it said before the sword was swung?

As his curiosity piqued, Alex watched as the sword disappeared and the light it had come with reappeared before slowly descending into the depths of the earth.

"Mikhal... this world truly does have a lot of peculiar things," Alex muttered before he began to consider his next course of action.

It was a bit anticlimactic considering the domineering figure Penemuel was but Alex didn’t see a need to dwell on that.

Just as he turned to deal with those slumbering in Eternal Night, he caught a flash of light appearing from the corner of his eyes.

Looking back, he watched as a pillar of light appeared from the location where Penemuel had fallen.

"This..." Without hesitation, Alex snapped his finger and disappeared in a flash of black and white.

Appearing at the scene, he found a figure wearing a black robe with a crow mask over their face.

They stood inches away from Penemuel’s body and were seemingly extracting something.

"Hey!" Alex called out, gaining their attention.

The figure turned in his direction and after slight scrutiny, turned back to face their work.

Alex frowned.

Attempting to move, he found himself unable to.

He was completely frozen in place as his heart beat rapidly.

’What... what’s happening?’ Alex wondered as he stared at the figure.

The figure still paid him no head, casually extracting what looked like golden liquid from the pillar of light that emerged from Penemuel’s body.

’Damn it!...what is this?... I don’t know why but that guy...he is giving me a bad vibe!’

Alex gritted his teeth and took a step forward.

Noticing something, the figure stopped and glanced in his direction.

"Do you not know fear?" The figure suddenly said.

Their voice sounded strange, making it obvious that they had used some form of enchantment to adjust it.

Alex didn’t bother with a response as he snapped his finger and appeared beside the figure.

Pulling out a revolver, he intended to shoot but before he had a chance to, the figure was gone.

"This..." Alex paused.

His senses clearly said there was no one there but why did a part of him keep saying there was?

Quickly making a decision, he pulled the trigger.

A muffled grunt was heard after which the figure revealed himself.

"Annoying."

The dark curtain appeared once again causing Alex to finally realize the identity of the masked figure.

The third-party!

Unfortunately, before he could make another move, something caused him to freeze in place again.

’Darn it!... Why is this happening?’ Alex clenched his chest as his breathing grew ragged.

Looking down at the hand that held the revolver, Alex noticed that it was shaking.

’Am I... scared?’

Hardly had that thought emerged in his mind when the dark curtain receded, however, the masked figure was already gone.

Alex watched silently as the pillar of light dissipated from Penemuel’s body, leaving behind a carcass that reeked of the Abyss.

"What just happened?" Alex couldn’t help but ask.

He was so soundly beaten, he couldn’t come to terms with it immediately.

Just as he began to regain his composure to think, someone appeared from the void of space.

Like a broken mirror, the pieces fixed themselves to reveal Basar with his bandages removed.

Alex glanced in his direction and after a bit of scrutiny, remarked. "So it was you all along."

The man behind the bandages was a familiar person to Alex.

Though they had only met once, he left quite an impression on Alex.

It was the middle-aged man that had drawn an image of a glorious eye.
