How I Accidentally Married a Billionaire -
Chapter 285 - Chapter 285 Chapter 284
Chapter 285: Chapter 284 Chapter 285: Chapter 284 Howard looked at Keera in front of him, a flicker passing through his eyes, then he said, “Okay, don’t worry, I will definitely figure something out.”
With those words, he turned and took Cindy Lloyd out the door.
But Cindy had already figured something out and bluntly said, “Divorce her, then you’re no longer responsible!”
She was pregnant with Howard’s child, naturally hoping that Howard would have a good life.
But Howard frowned, “That’s the worst choice. If we really divorce, I might end up with nothing. Wouldn’t my last three years have been wasted?!”
He had been married to Keera for three years now…
Cindy didn’t want him to come away with nothing either, so she immediately counter-asked, “Then what should we do?”
“There’s still a way, there must be a way…”
Howard stroked his chin, and suddenly his eyes lit up, “When we were in Oceanion, her relationship with Uncle Olsen was pretty good. We should find Uncle Olsen and have him step in. As long as he says a word to Davis Corporation, they will surely not dare to continue with the lawsuit. As long as they withdraw the lawsuit, there is still a chance for everything to turn around!”
After he and Cindy left, back inside the villa, Keira Olsen’s phone suddenly lit up, with a WhatsApp notification that Mary Davis had added her as a friend.
Then Mary’s message came through:
[Blocking you for five minutes, consider it payback for the half a year you blocked me! Hehe~]
[By the way, how are things on your end? Is he divorcing you?]
Keira replied: [Not yet.]
Mary: [Then what should we do?]
Keira said: [It looks like he won’t give up until all hope is lost. As long as Davis Corporation doesn’t drop the lawsuit, he’ll be like an ant on a hot pan. Don’t rush.]
Mary’s chat status continuously showed that she was typing…
But after typing for ten minutes, no message came through.
Keira looked at it and couldn’t help but ask, [What’s wrong? Is there something inconvenient on your side?]
Mary immediately replied: [No, I just feel that you seem different from before.]
Keira stared at the message, about to reply with something, but then she saw Mary send another message: [Keera, whatever happens, I will stand by you, whether it’s the you from the past, the you from now, or even the you in the future. As long as it’s you, I’ll always be with you!]
Keira looked at the message and suddenly froze.
She had been pretending to be her sister all this time, and her interactions with Mary had made her feel for the first time like she had a friend.
In that moment, as she looked at the text, she wanted to tell her that she was no longer Keera…
But after a long silence, she ultimately didn’t voice that thought.
She thought, if Keera were still alive, she too must have regretted being too love-struck and not trusting in friendships, having been blocked by Mary…
Keira was silent for a very long time and finally replied with just one sentence: [Thank you for your fondness towards Keera.]
The message was actually a bit strange.
But Keera often said odd things, so Mary didn’t dwell on it.
Before she could put down her phone, Uncle Davis sitting across the dining table, immediately scoffed, “Mary Davis, as long as you secure this next client, I will secure the R&D department project team leader position for you. Focus a little, will you? Stop being so absent-minded all the time, okay?”
Mary immediately put down her phone, “Uncle Davis, don’t worry. I will definitely do well.”
She still wanted to stay at the company, waiting to find a way to withdraw the lawsuit after the divorce, or to help her pay that twenty million… So if there was a chance to keep this job, she would try her best to do it.
Hearing this, Uncle Davis’s eyes glinted with a hint of sarcasm, “Hmm, Boss Dawson is not a man of his words, don’t provoke him later on.”
Mary nodded, “I understand, Uncle Davis.”
Almost immediately after she spoke, there was a knock on the door, and a chubby man walked in.
He was around forty, and looked quite greasy.
After shaking hands with Uncle Davis, he immediately looked at Mary Davis with a smile, “President Davis, who is this young lady? I’ve never seen her before!”
Uncle Davis chuckled, “This is my younger brother’s daughter. She’s currently interning at the Davis Corporation. Today, she’s accompanying me to gain some exposure.”
Boss Dawson immediately nodded, “Oh? So this is Miss Davis. It’s a pleasure to meet you…”
He extended his hand to Mary.
Upon shaking his hand, Mary felt his palm was clammy and quite disgusting.
She tried to pull her hand away, but he tightened his grip slightly, making it difficult for her to break free.
She immediately looked at her Uncle Davis for help.
Uncle Davis laughed, “Boss Dawson, please take a seat! Don’t let the food get cold.”
Boss Dawson then took his seat at the table with lecherous eyes.
Uncle Davis and Boss Dawson discussed a few matters about a contract. It was Uncle Davis’s project, and if it were to be successfully negotiated, it would elevate the first branch’s standing and secure their position within the Davis Corporation.
However, Boss Dawson just kept smiling without mentioning the contract, his gaze continually drifting towards Mary.
Uncle Davis laughed, “Mary, Boss Dawson likes you. Pour him a drink.”
Mary felt utterly repulsed by Boss Dawson’s gaze.
Reluctantly, she stood up with her wine glass, walked over to Boss Dawson, and smiled, “Uncle Dawson, Uncle Davis often speaks highly of you, saying that you’re good friends. I’d like to offer you a toast!”
With that statement, she established the hierarchy between them.
Boss Dawson’s expression suddenly changed.
Uncle Davis also frowned and glared at Mary before giving Boss Dawson a look.
Mary was watching Boss Dawson and didn’t notice Uncle Davis’s expression. She only saw Boss Dawson’s face change, followed by him standing up, “Fine, my dear niece, your uncle will take good care of you in the future!”
Mary sighed in relief and downed her glass.
Then she turned to Uncle Davis, “Uncle Davis, I just remembered there’s some work I haven’t finished yet. You and Uncle Dawson enjoy your drinks, I need to head back!”
Leaving those words behind, she grabbed her bag and walked out.
Even a fool could see that something was off with Uncle Davis; why would she stay?
But she had barely taken two steps when she suddenly felt dizzy and weak.
Mary immediately understood what was happening. She looked at the wine glass and, incredulously, turned towards Uncle Davis!
She thought she was the daughter of the Davis Family, his niece, that Uncle Davis was merely using her beauty to secure a contract. However, she could never have imagined that Uncle Davis would drug her drink!
This was beyond anything she could comprehend!
She bolted to the door, flung it open; she didn’t think about escaping, just wanted to cry out for help to anyone passing by.
But she never would have guessed that, as she opened the door, the person passing by her room would be Ellis Olsen.
At the sound of the commotion, he turned around in surprise and saw Mary.
Their eyes met, and the plea for help stuck in her throat.
Mary stood there, shocked.
In her mind, she remembered the words Ellis had said about her during their matchmaking encounter, “…just a pretty face, a true vase.”
If he knew she was using her looks for business negotiations, would he disdain her even more?
“My dear niece, you’ve had too much to drink! Come have some sobering tea…”
Behind her, Uncle Davis suddenly approached, grabbed her arm, and pulled her back into the room, then attempted to close the door.
But just as he was about to shut the door, a hand suddenly stopped it…
