How I Accidentally Married a Billionaire -
Chapter 230 - Chapter 230 Chapter 230
Chapter 230: Chapter 230 Chapter 230: Chapter 230 Kiera Olsen hesitated before speaking: “Grandma, was it you who got someone to help me and Lewis Horton with our marriage certificate?”
Old Mrs. Horton held Kiera’s hand and laughed: “How could that be! Do you really think wealthy families can do anything? That kind of thing requires both parties to be present!”
Listening to this, Kiera grew even more puzzled, but she didn’t ask further and listened as Old Mrs. Horton slowly explained.
In recent years, Old Mrs. Horton felt that she had never been as lucid as she was today. She directly said: “It was about two years ago, I can’t remember the exact date. Back then, Lewis was home for a week during his holiday from studying abroad.”
“I remember waking up at noon that day, feeling a bit confused. I wanted to find him but somehow ended up walking out the door, gradually getting further and further from home. I eventually fell on the road. My leg was uncomfortable, and I injured my arm as well. I tried to stand up but didn’t have the strength. It took a long time struggling on the ground and even asking several people for help. Ah! Sadly, no one would assist. I understand, everyone is afraid of the old deliberately provoking, right? And then, my dear granddaughter-in-law, you appeared! Do you still remember?”
Kiera suddenly remembered that there had indeed been such an incident.
Her memory was usually good, and more so, when she had helped the old lady, there were quite a few people around dissuading her from doing so.
But Kiera didn’t listen to them.
Instead, she asked someone to take out their phone and record a video as proof, then she stepped forward to help the elderly woman up.
Once the old lady was finally up, Kiera realized her leg was injured, so she carried her to a nearby hospital to get it treated.
And then, a dramatic scene unfolded.
At the hospital, after the nurse had treated the old lady’s wounds, Kiera was ready to say goodbye, but unexpectedly, the old lady grabbed her, asking her not to leave.
Kiera actually thought she had encountered a scammer and frowned, but the old lady just looked at her with bright eyes: “Good child, are you married?”
Kiera shook her head.
The old lady smiled: “I have a good-for-nothing grandson at home, would you consider settling down with him?”
Kiera: ?
“Good child, we’re destined to be! You were born to be my granddaughter-in-law. Shall I introduce you to my grandson? He’s very handsome!”
Old Mrs. Horton took out her phone and opened a photo.
At that moment, Kiera took a quick glance and couldn’t help but chuckle: “Old grandma, I don’t want to get married yet!”
Old Mrs. Horton then showed a look of regret: “Is that so… Well, if you ever want to get married and can’t find the right person, come to grandma! My grandson says he’s never getting married in his lifetime; it’s such a worry.”
After speaking, Old Mrs. Horton also handed her a business card.
Kiera didn’t say much more; she had interacted with many capable elderly people over the years, and she had learned all her skills from them.
So she knew very well, the older they get, the quirkier their personalities become.
Yet, after she left the hospital, she simply placed the business card atop a trash can on the side and walked away.
It was one of the most ordinary days in her life, so she gradually forgot about it.
Today, Old Mrs. Horton brought it up again, and only then did Kiera recall that day, beginning to connect her with the old lady from her memories.
Kiera was astonished: “So the old lady back then was you!”
“Yes, that’s why I said, granddaughter-in-law, we are fated!” Old Mrs. Horton said cheerily, continuing:
“Then, I really thought you didn’t want to get married and felt disappointed for several days. But you called me on the fourth day, saying you changed your mind about getting married. So, I tricked that brat to come! And you two went off to the courthouse to register your marriage!~”
As Old Mrs. Horton said this, she gave Kiera a reproachful look: “After you got married that day, you took me and the brat home. Then you said you’d go back to pack your bags to move in, leaving the marriage certificate with me to keep. But to my surprise, you never returned… granddaughter-in-law, why didn’t you come to find us again? Did you have second thoughts?”
At this point, Kiera’s eyes widened in shock.
She clearly threw away the business card, so how could she possibly go back and find Old Mrs. Horton?
She looked at the old lady, “Have you looked carefully? Are you sure the person who went to you later was really me?”
“It was you!”
Old Mrs. Horton nodded affirmatively, “The procedure for your marriage registration was all official – the photos were taken on the spot, and isn’t it you on the marriage certificate?”
Kiera tightened her jaw.
She suddenly turned to Lewis Horton, only to see his brows slightly furrowed as if he wasn’t surprised at all.
Kiera directly asked, “Mr. Horton, according to the old lady, you personally picked up the certificate. How could you not remember it afterwards?”
Lewis Horton just gave a bitter smile and helplessly rubbed his forehead.
Before he could speak, Old Mrs. Horton opened her mouth, “My daughter-in-law, this brat has a problem – he can’t drink. Just one glass and he gets drunk, and when he’s drunk, he’s not like other people. He appears as if he hasn’t drunk at all, outsiders can’t tell, but he becomes exceptionally obedient. Whatever I tell him to do, he’ll do!”
Old Mrs. Horton said with pride, “So I tricked him into drinking a sip, and while he was dazed, I had him get the certificate with you!”
Kiera: “…”
From when she got to know Lewis Horton until now, she really hadn’t seen him drink.
She looked at Lewis Horton again, only to see the man sigh softly, “When Grandma took out the marriage certificate, I had my suspicions – it turns out to be true.”
Lewis Horton looked at the old lady, “Grandma, you’re really messing around. Luckily, it’s Kiera. If it were someone else …”
The consequences would’ve been unimaginable!
Kiera’s cheeks turned slightly red. What did he mean by ‘luckily it was her’?
Old Mrs. Horton snorted, “I was dressed in tattered clothes back then, and so many people didn’t help me up, but the granddaughter-in-law came along. That shows the granddaughter-in-law has a good heart. Do you think I chose your wife randomly?”
Old Mrs. Horton teased him, “Brat, are you satisfied or not?”
Lewis Horton didn’t speak, but looked at the girl with a gentle and affectionate gaze.
But Kiera had a serious look on her face, as if she was facing a great enemy.
Thinking about Kiera’s recent conversation with the old lady, his brows creased slightly and he asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong? Is there a problem?”
“Of course there’s a problem.”
Kiera looked serious and turned to him, “Because after I helped the old lady, I never went to see her again! The person who married you with a certificate, it wasn’t me at all!”
Lewis Horton’s pupils constricted.
Old Mrs. Horton was also stunned, then said decisively, “Impossible! My granddaughter-in-law, how could I have mistaken someone else for you?”
As she spoke, as if to prove something, she took out her phone, “Right, right – after you agreed to marry, while we were waiting for this brat to come over, you told me a lot about yourself. You said your mother is Mrs. Olsen, and you even showed me a photo of you two together …”
She took out the Photoshopped photo again.
Before, when the old lady took it out and insisted that Mrs. Olsen was her mother, Kiera thought someone was playing a prank, deceiving the old lady. But now that she and Mrs. Olsen had recognized each other …
This meant that the fake ‘her’ from that year had already known that she was the biological daughter of Mrs. Olsen?!
At this moment, Kiera only felt a chill run down her spine.
Everything that happened was too fantastical, making her feel as though she was in a dream!
Old Mrs. Horton seemed to suddenly understand, “I know what’s going on!”
