Hospital 444 -
Chapter 671 - 8: Rules Binding
Chapter 671: Chapter 8: Rules Binding
Dai Lin could still distinctly remember the moment he first saw the head of the Ghost Buddha at the Blood Lotus Temple.
The Twenty-seven Ghost Buddhas of the Blood Lotus Temple were essentially... the twenty-seven incarnations of Quasi-cursed spirits. And the four main Ghost Buddha heads representing pleasure, anger, sorrow, and joy, were among the most powerful Ferocious Spirits.
The other twenty-three Buddha statues also varied in power; the weakest head could be wielded by a chief physician like Zhao She. After special treatment by the Department of Cursed Objects, even ordinary people could use it for a short period.
This, frankly, was quite miraculous. Consequently, the Twenty-seven Ghost Buddhas of the Blood Lotus Temple were the prime specimens for studying the incarnations of Quasi-curse spirits.
Dai Lin had always been curious... The Twenty-seven Ghost Buddhas were Quasi-cursed spirits, which led to rivers of blood flowing through the hospital, and frightful discussions among everyone. In such circumstances, it was incredible that the hospital eventually succeeded in retrieving all the incarnations of the Ghost Buddhas from the Blood Lotus Temple and sealed them through the Department of Cursed Objects. How did they accomplish that?
If Dai Lin asked this question, then almost everyone would give him the same reply: It was because Fang Shen, the head of the Department of Cursed Objects, was too extraordinary. In fact, a considerable number of people suspected that Fang Shen, or rather, Deputy Dean Fang Shen of Curse Affairs, not Yin Wuque, was the true number two in the hospital, right after the dean.
"I also find it hard to believe," Gao Heyann had once said to Dai Lin, "but the Department of Cursed Objects is really powerful, they actually managed to seal all twenty-seven Ghost Buddhas."
"These Buddha statues... they’re cursed objects themselves, aren’t they?"
"Uh... yes, that’s correct."
Blood Lotus Temple... the very name already suggests its eerie nature. Monks are compassionate, and the fundamental doctrine of Buddhism is not to kill, so to name a temple ’Blood’ indicates quite clearly its sinister essence. Originally, the temple was named Guanglian Temple.
What were once Buddha statues devoutly worshipped by pilgrims, became possessed by an unknown Quasi-curser spirit and transformed into extremely dreadful cursed objects. Countless pilgrims and monks were murdered, with only a very few being rescued and treated inside the hospital.
Without exception, all of the deceased met their ends in the most horrific and appalling ways. No one knew when it happened, but the character ’Guang’ in the temple’s signboard changed at some point to ’Blood’, marking the site as a dreaded place of evil.
"The hospital initially had doctors who wondered if among the Twenty-seven Ghost Buddhas, there might be the actual body of the Quasi-curse spirit," Gao Heyann continued, "but in the end, it was found that all of the Twenty-seven Ghost Buddhas were just possessed by incarnations. With the current capabilities of the hospital’s Department of Cursed Objects, it’s impossible to separate the curses from the Buddhas and create new cursed objects."
"Even so..." Dai Lin was still immensely impressed at the time, "turning all twenty-seven Ghost Buddhas into cursed objects is no small feat."
"Not easy at all. Paranormal Doctors possessing a Ghost Buddha Cursed Object must first register at the emergency center. If anything goes wrong, they are likely to be rushed to the emergency room for resuscitation. Initially, this Quasi-curse spirit drags humans into its Ghost Domain, and after killing them, releases their bodies... Without fail, the bodies of the murdered were subjected to extreme and brutal torture, making this type of Quasi-curse spirit one of the most savage."
Dai Lin felt that the Quasi-curse spirit involved in this Blood Letter Task might well rival the Ghost Buddhas of the Blood Lotus Temple!
If that were the case, he would probably have to face a double-digit number of incarnations, as well as the terrifying Ghost Domain!
Even Wuque himself might not find it much easier than him.
Thus...
Dai Lin continued to recall the content of the papers he had read on Quasi-curse spirits.
That is regarding... incarnations.
In fact, there was one question that baffled Director Lu, who was once responsible for analyzing the possessed Buddha statues and ghosts: Why did this Quasi-curse spirit split into so many incarnations?
There’s not much point in creating a multitude of incarnations when facing humans as opponents. The more powerful the ghost, the more incarnations it produces, and the weaker these incarnations become. Otherwise, if a Quasi-curse spirit could split into dozens of iterations, that would be excessively supernatural.
Coincidentally, the cursed object inhabited by the Quasi-curse spirit attached to Yin Wuque originated from the Dead Soul Tomb and also had a multitude of ghost incarnations. The Dead Soul Tomb, possessed by Hospital 444, is the most historically ancient among the cursed objects. It was first discovered in the 1970s; in this tomb, thousands of human bones were found!
What’s eerie is that the history of the tomb could be traced back at least to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, yet all the human bones were almost perfectly preserved without any signs of osteoporosis! These bones, which could be regarded as cursed objects themselves, guarded the tomb — so those who sought to rob the Dead Soul Tomb invariably ended up as part of its army of bones. While there were a few survivors from the Blood Lotus Temple’s Twenty-seven Ghost Buddhas, patients cursed by the Dead Soul Tomb have never survived to date; even their remains couldn’t be brought into the underground mortuary, as they would certainly become part of the army of bones in the Dead Soul Tomb.
The only person embedded in the Dead Soul Tomb who survived to this day is Yin Wuque alone!
The three notoriously forbidden places in Hospital 444, not to be rashly mentioned, are namely the Blood Lotus Temple, Dead Soul Tomb, and Eden Hotel!
Compared to these three, places like the Oroñe Hotel, used at least for the examination of the regular chief physicians, seem insignificant! As for Suyuan Mountain, it’s relatively unknown to most in the hospital; only a select few of the higher-ups are aware of its special nature.
