Hospital 444
Chapter 619 - 40: The Hunt

Chapter 619: Chapter 40: The Hunt

"Lelia," Virgil urged, "there’s no rush. Let me pour you a drink, on this particular day..."

"Yes, Lelia, take your time," Klein also persuaded. He knew his sister well; once she donned a lab coat, she transformed into a workaholic.

"Alright." Since her brother had spoken, Lelia had to show respect, "Let’s talk later then. However, I need to confirm the details of the surgery as soon as possible. This is an S+ level major surgery; the sooner all the details are confirmed, the better I can formulate a comprehensive surgical plan. Virgil, I need to discuss it with you later."

Having said that, she picked up a wine glass and addressed Virgil: "Pour me some liquor, please."

"Okay..."

"Not brandy. I want vodka," she glanced at a few bottles on the table, "Gin will do."

For a paranormal doctor, even the strongest liquor wouldn’t harm her health. Lelia had no particular fondness for drinking, it really didn’t matter to her, but the one exception... she just wouldn’t drink the brandy that Virgil liked.

Even Klein found this somewhat puzzling.

Virgil had already reached for the brandy bottle, but when he heard Lelia’s comment, his expression instantly stiffened.

"Okay..."

Lelia was a person whose preferences were always hard to discern.

She had no interest in cuisine, films, or makeup. She even lacked interest in medicine. The only thing she cared about was the revival of the Faust Family.

Virgil had never seen her express likes or dislikes in front of anyone, never showing a particular fondness or distaste for anything. Even when her sister Mary died, although she seemed concerned, she was more preoccupied with Mary’s death and its connection to the Dalen Family.

She often said that everyone was merely a cog in the Faust Family machine, with the goal to establish the family’s supremacy in 666 Hospital; beyond that, she cared for nothing else.

But, Virgil was actually aware... she did have preferences. At least, she had no feelings for her "husband." Marrying and sharing a bed with someone she didn’t love... no matter how indifferent she seemed, it was hard not to show resistance. Because of this resistance, even though Lelia knew she and Virgil needed to conceive an heir soon, they still had no children to this day.

Even today, when Virgil spoke to her, Lelia never looked directly at him. Only when her brother Klein talked to her, did she somewhat respond.

Virgil’s gaze shifted to David at the wedding venue. He knew that the David now was like himself yesterday. They were treading the same path and in the future, David too would become another cog, another tool for the Faust Family. Surrendering his soul to the Devil, eventually becoming part of the Abyss.

"Lelia, that’s a wine glass. I’ll have someone fetch another glass more suitable for vodka," Virgil said.

Appreciating red wine was one of Virgil’s passions. When he was poor, he didn’t have the luxury; but once he moved to Europe, he spent a lot of time at vineyards in France and developed a fervent passion for red wine, particularly for brandy, known as the "soul of wine." He had even purchased several vineyards.

However, unlike him, Lelia had no interest in red wine; the family had never educated her in such matters. The Faust Family, not being an ancient European lineage, had no interest in nurturing ornamental aristocratic etiquettes. Thus, her understanding of red wine was similar to those outsiders who only know about ’82 Lafite’, so much so that she didn’t even care about using a wine glass for vodka. This initial understanding was quite different from what he had heard that they were linked with the British royalty, but later on, it became apparent that it was because of their status as paranormal doctors that they were esteemed guests of the royalty.

Lelia glanced casually and said, "As you wish."

Virgil looked at Dai Lin standing beside him and then asked, "What would you like to drink, Dr. Dai?"

"I’m not particular," Dai Lin had bigger concerns at the moment; he was pondering how to swiftly get David out of there.

But under the current circumstances, escaping with David would be very difficult.

Among all present, the one who frightened him the most was the man who had handed over the bride to David, the Vice President of 666 Hospital—Mephisto Faust!

This middle-aged Caucasian man exuded a formidable aura without being angry, and Dai Lin felt as if this man was like a massive black hole.

In front of him, Yin Wuque and Han Ming counted for nothing!

After all, there was always only one Vice President in 666 Hospital!

If Dai Lin decided to rush forward and take David away now, it would be suicidal!

Dai Lin locked his eyes on the bride, Aluga.

Based on the memories Han Ming passed on to him, he had contacted Aluga before. His cursed object seemed genuinely miraculous, probably a special cursed object associated with the role of Executive Vice President, or maybe... its ability was enhanced by the apartment’s blessings, enabling it to break through the barriers of parallel temporal layers.

In any case, he could reach Aluga.

Through the memories of Milan and Han Ming, Dai Lin had a pretty good understanding of Alucia Faust. Although she belonged to the Faust Family, she had no sense of belonging to it. To this day, she still considered herself a widow of the Dalen Family, and she wouldn’t hesitate to obliterate the Faust Family if she could. Thus, Dai Lin could trust her and collaborate with her.

"Miss Alucia, hello. I am the current Executive Vice President of Hospital 444, Dai Lin." Dai Lin’s thoughts emerged in Alucia’s mind: "Please manage your expressions well, don’t let any flaws show. I am taking over from Vice President Han to collaborate with you."

"You?" Alucia was still shocked, "You became the Vice President? Did Vice President Han... die?"

"Vice President Han is deceased, and I am now the Executive Vice President."

She could feel she might be subjected to mind control at any moment, demonstrating without a doubt that Han Ming’s cursed object was at work.

This particular cursed object was a legacy, which he would pass on through the Gift of Flesh to his successor.

Years ago, Vice President Gong Cheng also passed this legacy cursed object to Dai Lin.

"I understand. You came here to save your brother, right?"

"Yes..."

Dai Lin watched his brother’s wedding, his emotions complex.

"Understood. The Faust Family is our common enemy; on this, we can collaborate," she said.

"Yes, that’s correct."

By then, Alucia had noticed Dai Lin as well as Klein, Virgil, and Lelia sitting beside him.

This made Alucia secretly thrilled.

Little did you expect, eh? You thought you captured the Devil’s Eye, but instead, you have brought the wolf into your den! You guys... are courting death this time!

Dai Lin was fully integrated into this world’s temporal layer!

Although an inverted cross appeared on his forehead, he was not assimilated as a Demon Host!

The Abyss Invasion was ineffective against him! Now, unaffected by the higher-dimensional contamination, he was ready to execute his plan.

"Listen carefully, Vice President Dai," Alucia joyfully communicated with Dai Lin in her heart, "The most important thing you need to do here is to kill Virgil Faust and Lelia Faust! You must sever all ties that 666 Hospital could use to influence your temporal layer!"

Not knowing Dai Lin’s personality and worried he might harbor some ’chivalrous’ reluctance to harm women, she specifically added a note: "Especially Lelia Faust. She must die! This woman is the most evil member of the family! She... must die!"
