Chapter 46 - 18 Auditory Hallucinations

Chapter 46: Chapter 18 Auditory Hallucinations

"What’s going on..."

In his ears, he felt some very strange sounds.

Lin Sen slowly set down the coffee pot and pinched his ears.

But the tinnitus had not improved at all.

As the tinnitus intensified, Lin Sen began to feel overwhelmed.

He had already started to not hear normal sounds.

Lin Sen walked out of the break room and quickly rushed out of the office.

He ran to the corridor outside the company and into the restroom, turned on the faucet, and washed his ears with water. Although he didn’t know if it would work, it was the only thing he could try now.

He couldn’t describe what kind of sound he was hearing in his ears now; it sounded too bizarre.

Finally...

The whirling sound in his ears stopped.

However, he still couldn’t hear anything. It was as if he had gone deaf, he couldn’t hear the loud sound of the running tap water at all.

What on earth was going on?

"Hey, hey, hey!"

He attempted to shout several times, but still, his ears couldn’t hear anything.

The sudden onset of deafness symptoms made Lin Sen panic. What was happening to him? Why couldn’t he hear anything?

Could it be related to the overtime he had been working recently?

In the empty restroom, he became increasingly frightened.

Just then, he suddenly heard this voice.

"No! No! I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die!"

Upon hearing this strange voice, he was completely stunned.

At first, he was very happy to hear a voice, but soon he realized...

It was his own voice!

But when he turned around, he found that there was nobody there.

All the doors to the individual cubicles in the restroom were wide open, and just like before, there was nobody inside. Going outside the restroom, he didn’t see anyone either.

"Just now, that... was that an auditory hallucination?"

This gave Lin Sen the chills!

He immediately covered his ears, and now his hearing had completely recovered.

He walked out of the restroom and returned to the office.

"Just now, did anyone go near the restroom?"

The colleagues who were working were all collectively stunned and looked at Lin Sen in confusion.

"No."

"Only you went to the restroom from the office just now."

"Right, no one else went."

Lin Sen had a good relationship with most of his colleagues in the advertising planning department, and he felt it was unlikely that anyone would imitate his voice as a prank.

"Shouldn’t you go to the hospital to have it checked out later? Should you visit the ENT or the neurology department?"

He still clearly remembered the content of the auditory hallucination he experienced.

It brought back memories of the terrifying experience he once had in K city.

"Could it be... that the curse of that apartment hasn’t ended yet?"

...

Dai Lin and Jiang Lan had already arrived in D city.

Even though they raced to Lin Sen’s home nonstop, it was already almost ten o’clock.

The two had only eaten a bit on the plane, so they were still somewhat hungry.

The implantation of the curse object could only suppress the desire to sleep for a certain period, but the appetite remained as strong as ever.

However, Dai Lin had no time to worry about that, as he needed to find the patient quickly and take him to the hospital for treatment.

"We need to move faster, we must get him to the hospital before midnight and arrange for hospitalization!"

Hearing this, Jiang Lan asked, "So after midnight, admission procedures can’t be processed, right? Or maybe go through the emergency department?"

"The current situation doesn’t qualify as an emergency. The emergency center building is also a dangerous place for the patient." Dai Lin glanced at his phone again, "According to the hospital’s rules, after midnight, doctors, nurses, or patients absolutely cannot enter any outpatient area."

"They can’t enter the outpatient area?"

"Right."

This rule was written in both the contracts and the employee manual. The outpatient areas within the hospital were separated from other areas. The emergency center, inpatient departments, Curse Objects Center, doctors’ dormitories, and so forth didn’t have to follow this rule, but the outpatient areas were strictly off-limits from midnight to four in the morning the next day, under any circumstances. If this rule was broken, the individual would bear the consequences.

This was also one of the rules set by the dean!

The taxi stopped at Mingyi Road.

Zhe Lan District was on the outskirts of D City, where the houses were relatively inexpensive, mostly detached homes.

However, the alleyways nearby were complex, and cars couldn’t drive through; to find Lin Sen’s home, they would have to search on foot.

At this moment, the taxi was stopped on a narrow street that didn’t even have a proper road. Both sides were lined with unlicensed street vendors and black motorcycle taxis soliciting business.

Dai Lin subconsciously straightened his collar and said to Jiang Lan, "Miss Jiang, stick close to me later."

"Okay."

The area was extremely remote, and even with a smartphone’s navigation, they couldn’t find where No. 13 Mingyi Road was.

"Excuse me, I’d like to ask," Dai Lin approached a vendor selling stinky tofu and asked, "how do I get to No. 13 Mingyi Road?"

The vendor didn’t pay much attention to Dai Lin, waving his hand as he said, "Don’t know, don’t know. Don’t get in the way of my business."

Jiang Lan quickly took out her phone and said, "We’ll buy two boxes of stinky tofu."

The vendor looked up, eagerly smiled, and said, "Alright! Scan here to pay! 15 yuan!"

Jiang Lan said, "Okay."

As she scanned the QR code, she looked back at Dai Lin and said, "I suppose they don’t give receipts here, so you won’t be able to get reimbursed, right?"

Dai Lin subconsciously sniffed and looked at the vendor, saying, "Uhm..."

"Do you see that alleyway over there?" The vendor, while frying the stinky tofu, pointed to the right and said, "Go through there, turn left, then right, and walk about fifty meters, and you’ll be there."

"Boss," Jiang Lan continued to make small talk, "it’s quite late, and you’re still setting up your stall?"

"Can’t help it, just a small business; I try to earn a bit more whenever I can," the vendor replied. He then added, "By your accents, you’re from out of town, aren’t you?"

"Yeah."

"Be careful then; there are quite a few thieves around here."

Just then, suddenly from the alley beside them, two dogs burst out.

One dog was large, a German Shepherd, and the other small, a Pekingese. The German Shepherd was fiercely aggressive, biting down hard on the Pekingese. The Pekingese couldn’t fend it off and squealed in pain as it was bitten.

The passersby didn’t see an owner, so they all kept their distance.

Dai Lin immediately focused on the scene.

The distance between the dogs and him was roughly a hundred meters or so.

Even though it was dark, he could clearly see every hair on the dogs’ bodies and the blood flowing from the Pekingese with one sweeping glance.

He closed his right eye.

In his left eye, a mass of blood red continued to cover his vision until the German Shepherd was completely engulfed.

After that, Dai Lin found that he could easily pull the soul out of the German Shepherd’s body!

However, he didn’t do so.

The German Shepherd clearly sensed something was wrong, immediately let go of the Pekingese, and fled into the distance.

What Dai Lin wanted... was to make it run!
