Chapter 400 - 17 Demon Cursed Item

Chapter 400: Chapter 17 Demon Cursed Item

The Darren Family had engaged in internal strife twice throughout history.

The first time occurred some hundred and eighty years ago, during the 19th century.

Having risen to prominence since the 18th century, Edward Dailun, the head of the Darren family, eventually became the deputy dean of 666 Hospital in the 19th century. It was at the pinnacle of his reign over the hospital that the first internal strife erupted, instigated by his twin brother, Griffith Dailun, in a bid to seize the position of deputy dean.

The civil unrest lasted for about a year and ultimately ended in Griffith Dailun’s defeat. However, Griffith Dailun’s descendants were not exterminated by Edward Dailun, but were pardoned instead.

The first internal strife did not have a significant impact on the entire Darren Family until the second internal strife which occurred several decades ago.

The doctors who survived that strife were to such an extent terrified by the memories that they seldom spoke of it. The instigator of the strife at that time was the sister of the then-deputy dean Samuel Daren, Renice Dailun. Even now, this name was almost taboo throughout the entire 666 Hospital; very few dared to mention it.

Klein opened a bottle of vodka, slowly poured a drink, and said, "Renice Dailun, she was the sister of the previous deputy dean, Samuel. Why do you suddenly ask about her?"

"I heard something in today’s lecture on the history of the hospital..."

"Today’s course should have mentioned The Sargenic Blood Covenant, right?"

"I just have this feeling... how should I put it..." Virgil clasped his hands together and said, "Maybe it’s related to the matter we’re investigating."

Klein was about to add ice cubes to his glass when, hearing what Virgil said, he turned around, puzzled, and looked at Virgil.

"Is it because of... the man named Han Ming?"

Klein was apparently a bit surprised by Virgil’s words.

"Regarding the internal strife of the Darren family, I went back and consulted Director Dave afterwards."

With Virgil’s current status, Dave would naturally tell him everything he knew, especially since the Darren family’s second internal strife had occurred just a few decades ago, and there were plenty of detailed records available.

"The Faust family should be very familiar with that internal strife of the Darren family, shouldn’t they?"

"Of course. It was because of that strife, which caused a decline in the talent within the Darren family, that my Faust family had the opportunity to rise. The key to that strife was the struggle for a certain cursed item."

"Exactly, that’s the key. What’s more, the one who originally found that cursed item was precisely Renice Dailun, who was then the director of the Demon Department at 666 Hospital."

The director and the doctors of the Demon Department had always been out of the deputy dean’s control because only the dean had the authority to appoint or dismiss them, and the deputy dean merely had the right to recommend. Therefore, this department was the most likely to rebel and had always been the one that the deputy dean was most wary of.

Klein had not yet been born at the time, but he had heard his father recount the details of that strife.

Everything stemmed from—666 Hospital’s obsession with hunting demons.

"Purgatory, Hades, Blood Demon and other different departments have always been obsessed with one thing—capturing a real hell demon. As you know, the morgue beneath 666 Hospital leads directly to hell. However, even the best doctors in the Purgatory and Abyssal Departments have not been able to capture a hell demon, let alone create a cursed item based on it."

"Yes, at least there has been no precedent in the hospital’s recorded history of the past five hundred years. Until... several decades ago, Renice Dailun finally succeeded in capturing a real demon."

"That’s not quite accurate. To be exact, a small part of the demon’s body was obtained. Right, here, let me correct you. Influenced by Christian culture, Westerners generally have the impression of demons as plural, having independent personalities, specific forms... um, something like monsters with black wings."

"So is that not the case?"

"Of course not. In fact, only beings like vampires and ghouls have specific forms, and they belong to the category of the least difficult to treat. But real demons... they don’t have specific forms, nor do they have independent personalities or individual identities."

"But without specific forms, part of a demon’s body can still... be captured?"

"That’s where the problem lies. Specifically, it is not the demon’s body but the body of a patient who, after a Level Six Abyssal Invasion, might transform into a true Demon Cursed Item under very slim odds."

Level Six Abyssal Invasion!

"The so-called Level Six Abyssal Invasion..."

"So a Demon Cursed Item can also be considered a Level Six Abyssal Curse. In the history of 666 Hospital, that was also the only Level Six Abyssal Curse. This can also be regarded as the body of a demon."

"And all this originated from a man named Han Ming."

"Yes. A doctor... without a black inverted cross on his forehead."

"Right. According to the information Director Dave told me, Renice Dailun seemed to have obtained this demon cursed item through this man. About this matter, it appears to be a core secret of the Dailun Family."

"Yes, our Faust Family does not understand this secret either. What we do know is that the frantic struggle that ensued ultimately resulted in the deaths of eighty percent of the hospital’s doctors, including Renice Dailun herself. And that cursed item will likely be inherited by Damon Dailun in the future."

Virgil continued, "And coincidentally, Doctor William saw a doctor without a black inverted cross on his forehead on the night Miss Mary disappeared. If these two are related..."

"The people of the Dailun Family... would indeed know the origins of this Demon Cursed Item... Then, do they want to replicate the process to capture a second Demon Cursed Item?"

"I think it’s a possibility."

Klein unconsciously took a sip of his drink, but he clearly didn’t taste the alcohol; he was engrossed in pondering Virgil’s words.

After a long thought, he shook his head, "No, it’s illogical. It makes no sense for the Dailun Family to wait until now... No, that’s not impossible, Damon Dailun is now the head of the Demons Department, and perhaps the arrival of Rosa Medel completed the last piece of the puzzle."

Klein thought for a minute before adding, "If that’s the case, then there’s another question. Why Mary? Damon Dailun couldn’t possibly be unaware that putting Mary in danger would enrage us and lead to the possibility of the two great families going to war prematurely."

"Then, is it possible that there’s something that only Miss Mary can do? For example, something related to Miss Mary’s cursed item?"
