Hospital 444 -
Chapter 29 - 1 Ouyang Rui
Chapter 29: Chapter 1 Ouyang Rui
Dai Lin subconsciously touched the corner of his eye.
Could it be that his eyes...
Yin Wuque knew that what he was about to describe was extremely terrifying, but he continued, "Back then, Meng Hua only told me about this, not even her sister or her teacher, Doctor Jiang. The Demons Department is independent, and it’s hard for me to get involved, especially since Director Li was not there at the time. What I didn’t expect was that, one night, Gao Menghua sent me a WeChat message, giving me a location—Ouyang Rui’s home address in the real world—and asked me to get there as soon as possible. She said she and Ouyang Rui were entangled by something so horrific they couldn’t get to the hospital, and even the hospital’s ambulance couldn’t enter that area!"
"So, I rushed over immediately, but by the time I got there... in Ouyang Rui’s house, Meng Hua had fallen into a coma, and Ouyang Rui was dead. To this day, Meng Hua has not woken up. All kinds of imaging examinations show that her soul is missing something, and though, symptoms of soul anomalies are common among many of our patients, her soul’s condition is extremely abnormal; we’ve never seen a similar case before."
"At the same time, the Department of Cursed Objects couldn’t determine the cause of Ouyang Rui’s death in their autopsy. He had no signs of external injuries or being cursed, but they discovered something inconceivable—his eyes had become cursed objects! You should know that doctors outside of the Department of Cursed Objects do not have the ability to create cursed objects, and all cursed objects are the property of the dean. Any doctor can only exchange them for Spiritual Therapy Points, and private ownership is prohibited. Therefore, the eyes were sealed in the Curse Objects Center, becoming the implanted cursed object for the dean’s future recruitment of doctors."
Department of Cursed Objects...
Based on the information Dai Lin had learned so far, it was a special department within the hospital that didn’t offer outpatient services to the public. It was run by one of the hospital’s three deputy deans, who specialized in the study and creation of cursed objects. Implantable cursed objects could turn ordinary people into paranormal doctors, and therapeutic cursed objects could help patients resist curses. With each recruitment, cursed objects were implanted into these ordinary people; if they didn’t survive the recruitment process, the cursed objects would be automatically reclaimed by the Department of Cursed Objects.
The most critical point was... Curse diagnostics were the gold standard for diagnosing curses. Strictly speaking, all diagnostics outside of curse diagnostics could not be considered official. The error rate of curse diagnostics was infinitely close to zero, capable of determining whether the curse originated from ghosts, resentful spirits, fierce spirits, malevolent ghosts, or some even more terrifying existence.
"The one in control of the Curse Objects Center is one of the three deputy deans, Fang Shen. As the administrative deputy dean, I have no authority over the Department of Cursed Objects. But at least, through various channels, I’ve learned all about the Department’s research on the eyes. These eyes, at the very least, have an extensive connection to demons. Later on, Director Li never returned to the country. Although he had been out of touch before, it’s quite normal for doctors to lose contact while on a visit, so we sent people to look for him, only for no one to expect... they found Director Li’s body! And the autopsy confirmed that Director Li died on the night of his visit!"
Dai Lin immediately realized something!
Doesn’t that mean that after that, there were fewer than four people left in the Demons Department?
Yin Wuque said this, leaning back slightly.
"Therefore, we immediately closed the outpatient services of the Demons Department. The other two doctors in the department claimed they had no similar experiences to Ouyang Rui. We suspect that Ouyang Rui’s experiences were probably due to the fact that only three doctors were left in the Demons Department, yet the outpatient services had not been closed."
Then, Yin Wuque took a deep breath, "For these past three years, Meng Hua has never woken up. These ghost eyes have been transplanted into different recruits, and before you, no one ever survived. The Department of Cursed Objects, through various studies, has also discovered part of the secret of the ghost eyes, such as the right eye being able to capture spirits and the left eye being able to detect and cast curses. However, to truly awaken the abilities of these ghost eyes, the Department of Cursed Objects estimates that one would need to reach at least the level of an attending physician. The department has always wanted to conduct thorough research on these eyes, and they have been keeping an eye on you."
"I understand. I won’t say any unnecessary words to the other doctors," Dai Lin was very clear that he and Yin Wuque were now in the same boat.
Honestly, Yin Wuque was quite surprised.
A life-or-death ordeal was approaching in six months, yet Dai Lin remained remarkably calm.
And Dai Lin was very aware that he and Yin Wuque were in a highly unequal position; if he showed extreme fear, he would be completely under Yin Wuque’s control.
As a doctor, having seen too much life and death over the years, he was fully aware of one thing: in the face of death, in addition to the doctor’s medication, the patient’s own will to live was also very important.
"If I can figure out the secret of these ghost eyes, maybe I can wake Meng Hua up again!" Standing up, Yin Wuque made a promise to Dai Lin, "I will spare no expense to keep you alive! Definitely!"
Dai Lin could tell that Yin Wuque indeed had deep feelings for Gao He Yan’s sister and had been taking care of Gao He Yan, his little aunt.
The information Yin Wuque provided could be verified by asking anyone in the hospital, so Dai Lin believed he could trust him.
Attending Physician! Within six months, he must become an attending physician to seal the devil!
...
The following day, he underwent many kinds of examinations.
The first was a CT scan.
He was surprised to find that Hospital 444’s CT equipment appeared to be no different from that of a normal hospital, which made him wonder about the principle behind it. Could it also have AI for intelligent judgment? Was it scanning the inside of the human body through a computer?
As he lay down, he even asked, "Um... I won’t need to hold my breath, will I?"
"No need," said the doctor from the Spiritual Therapy Points department, shaking his head. "We are the Spiritual Therapy Points department, not the Radiology department. The CT looks at the soul, not the physical body. What do you need to hold your breath for? Just lie down and relax. Besides your eyes, we also need to take a full look at your soul."
"Got it."
"Don’t be too nervous. It’s common for new doctors to experience backlash from cursed objects. You’re quite bold to have faced the devil head-on. It’s a wonder you survived."
"Speaking of which, I have a question... does this count as a work-related injury?" he asked.
"Don’t worry, it definitely counts as a work-related injury. The costs of your examinations and treatments are all free. They won’t deduct any Spiritual Therapy Points from your salary," they reassured him.
Then... the CT examination began.
His body was slowly slid into the CT scanner, and the warmth spreading over him made Dai Lin increasingly question whether this was really no different from an actual CT scan.
Blood draws, ultrasound, CT... After a series of examinations were completed, Dai Lin was taken back to his ward.
