Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition
Chapter 933 - 933: Story 933: The House That Hungers

The moon loomed heavy over the twisted mansion, its gates creaking in the night wind. Mira's fingers trembled as she traced the runes carved into the rusted iron. The house beckoned, its windows like black eyes, watching, waiting.

Draven adjusted his grip on his shotgun. "We don't have time for hesitation."

Zara exhaled sharply. "That place is alive. You feel it, don't you?"

They all did. The Forsaken Girl stood apart from the group, her gaze distant. "This house remembers," she whispered. "It has eaten before."

Elias scoffed, lighting a cigarette. "Great. A man-eating house. Just another Tuesday."

As they stepped inside, the door slammed shut behind them.

The foyer stretched impossibly long, candlelight flickering in sconces that hadn't been touched in decades. A massive staircase spiraled upward, its banister slick with something dark. The walls whispered, voices weaving through the air like fingers brushing against skin.

Mira clutched the Cursed Book tighter. Something here knew the magic inside it.

Then came the laughter.

A sound that didn't belong. Jagged, uneven, crawling from the depths of the house.

Draven's jaw tightened. "We're splitting up. We cover more ground that way."

Mira shot him a glare. "Have you ever seen a horror movie? That's how people die."

"Yeah, well, we're already in one," he muttered.

Zara and Elias took the left hallway, shadows stretching behind them. Mira followed Draven up the staircase while the Forsaken Girl wandered on her own, drawn toward the darkened corridors.

The deeper they went, the more the house changed.

Elias passed a mirror—his reflection didn't move. Zara flinched as she stepped onto a rug, only to realize it was breathing beneath her feet.

On the second floor, Draven reached for a door. It opened on its own, revealing a child's nursery, untouched by time.

A music box played, though no one had wound it.

Mira swallowed hard. "I don't like this."

Then, the crib moved.

A low, wet giggle crawled from within.

Draven raised his shotgun, but before he could fire—something burst from the shadows, yanking him inside.

The door slammed shut, nails growing over it, sealing it off.

Mira screamed, pounding against the wood. "Draven!"

Footsteps skittered behind her.

Slow, crawling things emerged from the walls, their mouths too wide, eyes black pits. They grinned, whispering in voices that weren't their own.

A door at the end of the hall creaked open.

The Forsaken Girl stood there, her dress stained with something red.

"This house," she said softly, "has decided to keep us."
