Chapter 687
Alexander Foster looked at the glass of the window in front of him.
Chloe’s reflection could be seen there.
She was looking this way, with a thoughtful expression on her face.
Then, he said to the person on the other end of the phone: "In what capacity are you asking me this question?"
Milton White: "I asked you first."
Alexander’s mouth twitched, but he didn’t say anything. He suddenly hung up the phone.
He threw his cell phone on the table and turned to sit back in his original position.
"If you have any questions, just ask." He looked at Chloe.
Chloe blinked, thought for a second, and asked, "How long have you known each other?"
It seemed that they had known each other for a long time, but there was one thing she couldn’t figure out.
Without hesitation, Alexander answered directly, "Since I can remember, we have known each other."
"His family used to live in the Capitol too, and later moved to Orlando."
Chloe had guessed this much.
She pondered for a moment, then asked him, "The year you were recuperating from your injury in the temple, he was there too. Why have I never seen him visit you?"
Alexander furrowed his brow: "He was there?"
"Yes, it’s quite a coincidence. Both of you were injured, but his injuries were not as severe as yours. He could get out of bed after just a few days, while it took you several months to recover your eyesight, right?"
Alexander seemed to be thinking about something, remaining silent for a long time without speaking.
Chloe sensed that there might be a story between these two men and decided it was best not to ask too many questions.
Since Miles had never mentioned it to her, it must not be a very happy story.
She placed her cool hand on his arm, and Alexander’s thoughts were instantly pulled back.
He looked up and saw her clear, beautiful eyes.
"Let’s go eat grilled meat."
In the blink of Alexander’s eyes, he had already composed his emotions, and the corners of his mouth returned to the comfortable and contented smile.
He said, "It’s cold downstairs. I’ll prepare, and you wait here."
"No need, grilled meat is best eaten in the courtyard for the right atmosphere."
As she spoke, she lifted the blanket.
The next second, Alexander pressed her down.
He leaned forward, his face close to hers, his voice deep, "This is winter. You can’t be willful."
After speaking, he pushed her back and re-covered her with the blanket.
"I’ll be back in a moment."
Only after he left and closed the door did Chloe’s dazed eyes slowly focus.
She put her cool hands on her cheeks and hammered her slightly stuffy chest a couple of times.
It was late at night, only one dim light was left in the hallway.
As soon as Alexander stepped out, he saw a figure hurriedly turning away, perhaps too rushed, causing her to lose her balance and quickly lean to one side.
Alexander glanced at her with a faint expression and unconsciously kicked a chair beside him.
The next second, the person landed directly on the sliding chair!
Shelby Hamilton stared at the staircase steps she was about to fall on, her heart still pounding. If she had really fallen, her face would have been ruined!
Fortunately, there was this chair!
Looking at the chair, she quickly turned her head to look at Alexander, who had just come out of the room.
He didn’t stop at all and had already walked down the stairs, as if he hadn’t noticed her at all.
But he had really saved her just now.
"Thank you!" Shelby stood up, her face wearing a smile of excitement.
She didn’t receive a response from the man. She thought he might have not heard her.
She quickly walked to the staircase entrance and looked down, catching a glimpse of the man’s side profile and silhouette.
This sight made her feel slightly bitter.
His back was identical to the one in the photo that Miles had sent.
