Chapter 614
Edward Turner’s agent led Chloe Collins and her companion upstairs.
As they entered the elevator, two people suddenly ran into the lobby with a sneaky appearance.
"Wasn’t that Edward Turner’s agent just now?"
"It was him!"
"And the other two women, one of them is the perfumer, Miles White, right?"
"Yes! I took pictures!"
"But Miles White is not from the same circle. What is she doing here? And what is her connection with Edward Turner’s agent?"
"...Could she be Edward Turner’s secret girlfriend?"
"But didn’t you say Edward Turner and Shelby Hamilton are a couple? There are plenty of rumors about them online, aren’t there?"
"There must be big news. Let’s follow them and see."
The three of them went to the fifth floor.
The agent opened a door and went in. He looked back at the two and said, "Edward will be here shortly. Please wait."
Chloe nodded.
In a short while, the agent brought over two cups of coffee.
Chloe sat on the couch and calmly waited, pondering the conversation with Edward from the previous night.
Layla Lowell got up and admired various celebrity posters on the wall, fully engaged in them.
Two minutes later, Edward Turner hurried in and locked the door behind him.
"I’m sorry, I was delayed for a few minutes."
He sat down: "What did you mean by what you said on the phone?"
Chloe took out the small box from her bag and also took out a testing report.
"Take a look."
Edward Turner hurriedly took it and carefully compared the contents of the report to the medicine in the box.
Afterward, he looked like he doubted everything he knew about life: "How can this be..."
"For six whole years, I haven’t eaten or slept well because of this, and it turns out it’s just a set of worthless, ordinary cough medicine?"
Chloe carefully observed his eye movements and body language, not missing any subtle expressions.
Then she asked, "When your foster father gave you this thing back then, did anything strange happen?"
Edward Turner looked remorseful, thought for a moment, and shook his head: "No. In the early hours of the day, he suddenly rushed into my room and woke me up, gave me this and a large sum of money, and told me to go find his friend. Then his friend sent me away and helped me find my family. Later, when I wanted to find them, I couldn’t find a single one of them."
"That’s strange. Did your foster father take the wrong thing in a hurry?" Layla Lowell asked.
Chloe slowly said, "Think carefully about the reason why he did this. You lived together for several years. You should understand his style."
Edward Turner nodded slowly, his complex gaze fixed on the bottles of medicine.
Gradually, the confusion in his eyes seemed to give way to a clear path, a faint clue emerging.
"Could it be... a smokescreen?"
"A smokescreen?" Chloe stared at him.
He nodded and said, "Yeah. When my foster father used to play hide and seek with us in his free time, the thing he often said was that in order to win, you can’t just rely on hiding; you also have to confuse your opponent."
"You mean, besides you, there were other kids?"
Edward Turner’s face grew a bit heavy, nodding slowly.
"Yes, there was one more, a girl a few years younger than me, about the same age as you."
Chloe’s eyes flickered, saying, "So you’re suggesting that your foster father gave the same task to that girl, but the real thing was in her hands, and all this was just a fake to confuse the enemy?"
"That must be it because I couldn’t think of any other possibilities. After that day, I could never contact that girl again. It was as if she had vanished from the world, leaving no trace."
Layla Lowell was shocked, "Do you have her picture?"
