Chapter 53
It was the sound of the guard greeting Alexander Foster.
She was unwilling, but after thinking about it, she left.
Not long after returning to her room, the voices of Alexander Foster and Ford came over.
She didn’t wear her hearing aid, and although Ford’s voice was not loud, she could hear it clearly.
"Young Master, it’s been three years since Snow and Blaze appeared. There must be a big event happening in the Capitol soon," said Ford.
Snow and Blaze were high-ranking members of a branch of the Underground Dark Alliance. They were a male and female duo who often took on big tasks, and they had much more information than the lower-ranking members.
It seemed that Alexander Foster was planning to investigate the past by starting with them.
Chloe Collins wasn’t particularly interested and didn’t want to eavesdrop on other people’s private affairs, so she put on her hearing aid.
Immediately, the noisy sounds from all around were cut off.
The drug that had failed to enter the market years ago was targeted at brain diseases. Somehow, a mistake happened in its development, and the final product could instead unlock human potential. It significantly enhanced various human abilities, but at the same time, it also caused damage to the body.
She was an example of that.
If it weren’t for that drug, she might have lived an ordinary and unremarkable life like many normal people.
She wouldn’t have to worry about diseases or dying early.
She closed her eyes, sinking into her thoughts.
An hour later, she was holding a comic book in her arms, her head leaning against the rocking chair’s pillow. Just as sleep was about to overtake her, someone suddenly called her from outside her door.
She rubbed her hair and got up from the rocking chair to open the door.
Evelyn Thompson’s gentle smile hung on her face. She was dressed in a strong traditional style, with a short cloak wrapped around her arm, making her appear even more elegant and virtuous.
"Chlo-Chlo, are you tired from doing your homework? Look at you, your face is full of tiredness." She frowned and tucked Chloe’s loose hair behind her ear.
Chloe felt a little uncomfortable, after all, even her own mother seldom treated her like this.
"I’m fine, Aunt Evelyn."
"Sigh, it’s hard being a senior high school student. But it depends on the person. Cain doesn’t try hard at all. He always plays fencing and video games. When you have time, you should take him with you and study together."
As she spoke, she grabbed Chloe’s wrist, "Now let’s go eat first. You two didn’t have dinner earlier. I personally cooked something for you. I’m learning from the Master Chef recently, so you can give me some advice."
Evelyn Thompson loved learning new skills, and recently she had become infatuated with cooking, creating new dishes every day.
Even though Chloe wasn’t hungry, she didn’t have the heart to refuse and silently followed her out.
As they arrived at the dining table, she saw Alexander Foster coming downstairs. He had changed into comfortable casual clothes and his hair was half-dry and slightly messy, clearly just recently towel-dried.
"Alex, hurry up, the food will get cold soon."
Alexander Foster glanced at Chloe briefly, with an extremely shallow and emotionless gaze, and asked, "You didn’t eat?"
Chloe sat down casually and responded casually, "I didn’t eat."
Alexander Foster’s eyes darkened a bit, but he said nothing.
After the two of them were seated, Evelyn Thompson sat in the middle, looking back and forth between them with a smile on her face.
"Chlo-Chlo, I heard from Cain that your math teacher punished you because you didn’t hand in your homework. Is it true?"
Alexander Foster looked up at Chloe upon hearing this.
Chloe looked at Evelyn Thompson and said softly, "It’s not a big issue."
Evelyn Thompson thought about it seriously and said, "Math really isn’t suitable for everyone to learn. Everyone has their own strengths, and it’s just that you’re not good at this one thing. Don’t lose your self-confidence because of this."
"By the way, Alex, you are really good at schoolwork, and you are the one who skipped the most grades in our family. You even got that very impressive first place in the math competition. From now on, you will be responsible for tutoring Chlo-Chlo."
