Alex put down the fruit knife, picked up an orange, and began to peel it. "Do you want me to use them?"

Chloe thought for a moment and said, "If you don’t want them, I know another friend. He’s involved in technology research and has a lot of useful technology. Should I ask him to send you some self-defense gadgets?"

Putting the peeled orange in front of her, he casually asked, "That little sweetheart of yours?"

Chloe stopped, "What little sweetheart?"

Alex’s gaze focused on her ring. "The one who made that ring for you."

Alex paused, remained silent, and stared at her quietly, unable to get enough of her gaze.

Several seconds passed before he finally said, "Not sure."

This time, it was Chloe’s turn to be silent.

How should she respond to that?

Her phone vibrated. Relieved, she said, "I’ll check the message."
