Chapter 509: Chapter 509: If Madam and Young Lady Hadn’t Had a Quarrel
Chapter 509
At these words, Chloe Collins immediately stopped stroking Milk Candy.
The personally authenticated result from that year flashed in her mind, proving with certainty the biological relationship.
Rosalind Taylor laughed, "Mom, what are you thinking? The Collinses are a prestigious family. To be absolutely sure, a paternity test is done as soon as the child is born. Of course, it’s my brother’s biological child; there can be no mistake."
The old lady’s voice weakened a bit, "Then what is the real reason?"
"I already told you, it’s my sister’s decision. I don’t know either."
"My brother might know, but he won’t tell me."
The old lady sighed.
At that moment, Aria Taylor came from the other side and said, "Cousin, how about we go eat first? I’ll look for the cat later."
Chloe came back to her senses and knew that she wouldn’t hear any useful information if she continued to stay there, so she decided not to linger any further.
Turning to Aria, she said, "Oh, I was just about to tell you that it came back on its own."
"It’s getting late. If you don’t mind, could you ask Mr. Black to drive me back?"
Aria held her back, "What’s the rush? Have dinner first before leaving."
Chloe said indifferently, "Why don’t you go talk to the old lady. If she says not to leave, I won’t leave."
Upon hearing this, Aria agreed and went inside.
In no time, she came out with an embarrassed look on her face.
"Grandma said that since you have urgent matters, she won’t keep you any longer. I’ll have Mr. Black take you back."
Chloe nodded.
On the way back, the driver, Mr. Black, was still talkative.
Without Aria to hold her back, he rambled on and on.
In just ten minutes since leaving the Taylors’ residence, he had talked about his first days working for the Taylors and Joy Taylor’s wedding day.
As he recalled the past events, his eyes got misty.
"Ah, when I think about the young lady’s wedding day, it feels like it was just yesterday. Your father’s wedding procession stretched from here to there, and one couldn’t see the end at a glance. Everyone in the city was talking about it. You could still find news related to it in the newspapers of that time."
As he spoke, he sensed the silence of Chloe and suddenly realized that he was being too talkative. He asked, embarrassed, "Miss Collins, am I a bit too chatty?"
Chloe’s eyes were warm, "Not at all, you can continue."
Her goal for having Nelson Levine drive her was to listen to more of his stories.
On the way here, she heard him say that he’d been working at the Taylors for over twenty years. So, he might know something.
Nelson laughed, "Miss Collins is just like Miss Joy. She’s good-tempered and friendly."
Chloe said, "Mr. Black, you know my mother very well."
Feeling embarrassed, Mr. Black laughed and said, "Hey, hey, I wouldn’t say that. It’s just that I’ve been working at the Taylors for so long that in my heart, I’ve come to regard the young lady as family."
Chloe: "It’s strange, actually. In my memory, my mom never brought me here. Otherwise, I would have recognized you a long time ago."
Without thinking, Mr. Black blurted out, "Yeah, if Madam and Young Lady hadn’t quarreled, I would have met you, Miss Collins, earlier."
Chloe heard what she wanted but didn’t reveal any surprise. Instead, she went along, "Right, my mom also told me about it. She said if it weren’t for that incident, everything would have been fine."
Mr. Black: "Ah, that incident can’t be blamed on the young lady. To be honest, the Madam was too partial and kept secrets from her. If it hadn’t been like this, they wouldn’t have quarreled, and the series of events that followed wouldn’t have happened. It’s a pity for the Taylors, really."
"Mr. Black, you think the same way I do."
