Chapter 493
Upon arriving at the school, the first thing Chloe Collins did was to look for Layla Lowell.
During the car ride, it just occurred to her about Layla’s whereabouts.
Layla wasn’t mentioned in Theodore’s recap of the events.
So, did she go home early last night?
On the way, she had sent her a message, but Layla didn’t respond.
Now that she had reached the classroom, Layla was nowhere in sight.
Only just before class, she saw Layla hurriedly running in from the back door, still wearing yesterday’s clothes.
"Chlo-Chlo, do you have any water? I’m so thirsty."
Chloe unscrewed the bottle cap and handed her a bottle of water.
"What happened to you?"
Layla gulped down several mouthfuls of water before finally sitting down.
"Where did you sleep last night? Did you also sleep in the bar?"
Chloe raised an eyebrow, "Also?"
Layla widened her eyes, "Didn’t you sleep in the bar’s room?"
Chloe replied casually, "I got drunk, and Alexander Foster came to pick me up."
Layla frowned, "I remember you were still participating in the contest when I passed out, so it wasn’t you who brought me to the bar’s room?"
Chloe felt uneasy, "Did you run into any trouble?"
As she said that, her eyes scanned Layla’s visible skin, worrying she might see some indescribable signs.
Layla shook her head, "No, I just woke up in the bar’s room, realized it was late and rushed to class. My phone also ran out of battery."
"Didn’t see anyone else?" Chloe, relieved, asked with a smile.
Layla replied, "I met some bar staff. They were really weird. They bowed to me like I was the boss’s wife. And they actually knew my surname."
Chloe asked, "Which room did you stay in?"
"Just that room in the private area on the east side of the second floor."
"Oh, that room."
"You know about it?"
Chloe took the munchkin out from her pocket, petting it, "That’s Charles Carrington’s private living area."
"What?" Layla’s eyes widened.
"How did I end up there? I can recall the events from last night, but I have no memory of the part after, I must have blacked-out."
Chloe replied, "The alcohol level was high last night. It’s not surprising you were knocked out."
Layla: "Oh... So it seems like Mr. Carrington arranged for me to rest there, but I didn’t see him at all last night."
"You could ask him to find out."
Chloe handed her a power bank.
Layla took it and then turned her attention to Chloe’s cat, "Oh my, it’s so cute. Did you buy it?"
Chloe shook her head, "It was a gift."
"The moment you wanted it, someone gave it to you. You two really are in sync."
Chloe petted the munchkin’s whiskers, musing over it. Suddenly, she found the whole thing a bit strange.
She hadn’t mentioned it to Alexander, but she did leave a comment on a comic site.
Could it be...
"Chloe, Ms. Brooke is calling us over."
Chloe snapped out of her thoughts and turned to see Wanda Wesley.
Wanda was holding the chemistry competition materials and her notebook. She was wearing a very warm cotton coat and her hair, as always, was hanging loosely, thoroughly covering her neck.
It felt hot watching her in the summer, but now it seemed quite warm and cozy.
Chloe nodded and took out a prepared gift from her drawer. "Merry Christmas."
Wanda was surprised, taking it with a panicked expression, "Thank you."
Chloe gave a slight smile, "Let’s go."
She grabbed a few things and left.
The teacher of the class next door hadn’t arrived yet, and several boys were gathered around the window making a racket.
