His Wife Calls The Shots

Chapter 437: Chapter 437: She Didn’t Hear It, Did She?

Chapter 437

After hanging up the phone, Raine Nolan pressed her chest and took a deep breath.

She had already thought about how to deal with this situation.

She would send someone to find the dog in the afternoon.

Once they found it, she would have its wounds treated and then sent back. That’s it!

If they couldn’t find it, she would buy an identical one and hope things would pass unnoticed.

"Raine."

"Ah!" She twisted her head abruptly and saw her mother, Rosalind Taylor. Her face eased. "Mom, it’s you."

"Why are you so pale?"

"Oh, it’s nothing. I just feel a bit cold."

"Come with me." Rosalind suddenly spoke.

Only then did Raine notice her mother’s serious expression.

She asked, "What’s the matter?"

"Let’s talk inside!"

As soon as the door closed, Rosalind slapped a piece of paper on the table: "What is this?!"

Raine was stunned for a moment. Upon taking a closer look, she gasped.

"Mom, let me explain first."

Rosalind leaned on the table and sat down: "Fine, I’ll listen to your explanation. Tell me clearly why you made such a strange perfume!"

"Besides, why were you so flustered and rude this morning when the Carsons visited? You knew very well that they are the partners your father has been wanting to collaborate with for a long time!"

Raine was surprised that her mother had picked up on this.

She struggled internally, debating whether she should reveal everything.

"Go on! Weren’t you going to explain?"

Rosalind could clearly feel her daughter drifting further away from her. Raine had stopped discussing every matter with her, like she did in the past. Frustrated and annoyed, Rosalind grew increasingly irritable in her pregnancy.

Raine lowered her head and slowly recounted everything from the beginning.

Rosalind was nearly having a miscarriage because of the shock.

"Mom, don’t worry. They don’t suspect me anymore. I’ve already placed everything in Chloe Collins’ room."

Rosalind clenched her teeth, looking at her in frustration: "When will you start using your brain?! You’re digging your own grave by going on like this!"

Raine was taken aback: "Mom, how could you say that? It wasn’t intentional. I just wanted to prove myself. It was Brandon Spence who harmed those people, not me. If the Carsons want to blame someone, they should blame him, not me!"

"Do you think they’ll think that way? What good will blame Chloe Collins do for the Collinses?! In the eyes of the Carsons, she’s still a daughter of the Collins family. By then, the Collinses will be equally despised, and all your father’s collaborations will be ruined by you!"

Raine felt a chill down her spine: "Then what should I do? I didn’t think that far ahead. Can we say that Chloe Collins has cut off ties with the Collins? After all, she rarely comes back and doesn’t recognize herself as my father’s daughter. What’s the difference between that and cutting off ties?"

"Stop thinking about unreliable ideas!" Rosalind scolded.

"What’s the commotion about?"

A voice called from a distance down the corridor.

Rosalind was startled and quickly signaled Raine with her eyes.

Raine also covered her mouth and looked toward the doorway.

The door opened, and the old Madam stood there, accompanied by her private nurse.

Rosalind stood up with a smile: "Mom, it’s nothing. I was just asking Raine about why her grades were dropping recently, and I became a bit agitated."

The old Madam looked deep into their eyes, silent for a moment before finally speaking: "Let’s all go down for dinner."

"Yes, we’re on our way."

As soon as the old Madam left, Raine anxiously asked, "Mom, she didn’t hear everything, did she?"

"She probably didn’t. I’ll ask the nurse later." Rosalind remained fairly calm.

The nurse was someone Rosalind had personally found, and she was loyal to her. She would not lie to Rosalind.
