Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Sorry, I’m Late

Chapter 401

About a few minutes later, he received a call from Charles Carrington instead of a message.

"Alex, you were right. Something happened to both of them."

Alex silently increased his speed.

"What’s the situation?" he calmly asked.

The sound of Charles opening the car door came through, his breath slightly rushed.

"I tried calling her, but no one answered. So I checked the interior," he paused, his voice heavy. "Alex, don’t be too worried; I believe Chloe Collins can protect herself."

Alex’s expression became serious: "Tell me."

"When Chloe was taking a shower, Fishie left the room for a short while, and Charlotte Floyd’s brother sneaked into the room. The camera shows him rushing into the bathroom and locking the door. There’s no camera in the bathroom, so I don’t know what’s happening inside."

"Both kids don’t have their phones on them, so I can’t contact them. However, I’ve already sent someone nearby over. Don’t worry too much."

Alex’s eyes darkened, driving the car at racing speed.

Amidst the silent night, the vehicle flashed past the driveway quickly.

Alex arrived at the Lowells’ as fast as possible, and Charles, who was much closer, had already entered the villa.

An ambulance was parked at the villa’s entrance, and there was a commotion inside.

At that moment, Alex’s eyes flickered.

He rushed in, spotting Layla Lowell sitting on the couch in the first-floor hall and Charles standing beside her.

A paramedic was cleaning the bloody soles of Layla’s feet while she was holding onto Charles’ arm, enduring the pain without crying out.

"Alex."

"Where is she?" Alex’s deep voice, his eyes revealing an intense and nervous coldness.

Charles replied, "Second floor, but..."

As footsteps approached, Alex had already gone upstairs.

Charles muttered quietly: "However, she’s fine."

Alex didn’t hear that. He walked past the medical staff, and finally saw the familiar figure in front of one of the second-floor rooms.

From a distance, she was wearing a coat, seemingly with nothing underneath, but tightly wrapped. She stared coldly at the room, suddenly turning to look at him as if sensing something.

From Chloe’s point of view, she saw the man approaching, full of worry and urgency on his face.

Her heart stirred, and before she knew it, she was embraced in his arms.

She was surprised: "How...how did you get here?"

Alex tried to control the strength of his hold on her, for fear of hurting her. His emotions were a mess.

"I’m sorry, I was late."

Chloe didn’t know what to say, only feeling the ripples on her calm emotions caused by a thrown stone.

Just then, two doctors carried a wailing man out, passing right in front of them.

A disheveled woman followed the doctors, her voice trembling and repeatedly urging them to move faster.

Alex glanced over and saw the man’s twisted ten fingers, both of his arms dislocated, and one of his calves bent at an eerie angle. It looked very painful.

However, he didn’t have a bit of sympathy, his eyes revealing a destructive intent instead.

Seeing him as if about to take action, Chloe instinctively grabbed his hand: "Don’t get involved."

She looked at his worried eyes, adding: "I’m fine. He couldn’t hurt me."

He lowered his gaze to examine her from head to toe. Aside from her slightly messy damp hair and the scantily clad clothing, he didn’t see any signs of injuries.
