Chapter 364: Chapter 364: Charles Carrington’s Distress
Chapter 364
Layla Lowell stared at the bag of food, and suddenly remembered that last time in the classroom, Robert Foster also bought things for Chloe Collins in the same way .
The only difference was, when Alexander Foster bought things for Chloe Collins, he looked at her affectionately, while Charles Carrington looked at Layla Lowell... with an expression that was filled with regret and unspeakable hesitation.
She cleared her throat a little, and slowly spoke: "Mr. Carrington, I want to ask you something."
Charles Carrington’s expression stalled, then nodded very seriously.
Layla Lowell struggled for a moment with her choice of words, her mouth opening and closing.
"Wait." Charles Carrington suddenly spoke, interrupting her mid-sentence.
Layla Lowell looked straight at him.
Charles Carrington lacked his usual determined vigor, seeming to lose all his usual calm. He seemed to gather his courage before he could speak: "Actually...I..."
His gaze met Layla Lowell’s pure gaze and his complexion changed suddenly.
He hadn’t seen such an expression in many years—clean and free of ulterior motives.
The words coming to his mouth suddenly wouldn’t come out.
He said: "Let’s wait till you’ve healed to talk about it."
Layla Lowell: "Huh? It’s okay, I can say it now."
"It’s late now, you should rest, I will go first."
Seeing his hurried expression, Layla Lowell merely nodded.
He had sat here for a whole morning and an additional two hours. She felt quite embarrassed.
During that period, only half the time was spent discussing the lawsuit.
The rest of the time, he was either discussing with the doctor or sitting by her bed in the hospital ward.
Before long, Charles Carrington left the hospital.
Having nothing to do, he came to see Alex to chat over tea.
Alex wasn’t as leisurely as him, so he left Charles Carrington alone and went to a meeting.
After returning from the meeting which had lasted over an hour, Alex saw that Charles Carrington was still lying on his couch, not playing with his phone. He was leaning his head on one hand, looking at the evening glow outside the French windows, a hint of melancholy in his gaze.
"Your meeting sure lasted a long time." He commented casually, but his gaze was still fixed on the view outside the window.
Alex ignored him, instructed something to the assistant who came in with him, and the next second, another department manager knocked on the door, asking him to sign some documents.
By the time Alex had put down his pen and all had quieted down, it was already eight minutes later.
The moment the door was closed, Charles Carrington made a tsk sound.
"I really don’t understand how you can enjoy this kind of job."
Leaning back in his chair, Alex was closing his eyes to rest. Parting his lips slightly, he said nonchalantly: "No more nonsense. Let’s get to the point."
Charles Carrington shifted his position on the sofa, looking at the ceiling decoration, and said: "Actually, it’s not a big deal."
Alex didn’t respond, but his entire body seemed to turn instantly cold.
Charles Carrington said: "You know, I don’t like owing people, let alone favors. This girl is bold, sigh, she must be young and emotional, she doesn’t value life that much."
Alex’s eyes slightly opened, indifferently: "Did you come here just to vent?"
Charles Carrington let out a sigh: "The girl’s gaze is very clean, I really don’t know how to reject her."
Alex’s features remained cool.
Charles Carrington: "It seemed like she wanted to confess to me today. I planned to clarify things with her, but then I reconsidered. She is currently injured. If I add emotional pain on top of that, I would be even more of a jerk than you."
Alex raised his eyes: "Idle?"
A gloomy atmosphere permeated the room, heading towards Charles Carrington.
"Ah~"
Charles Carrington sighed softly again, picked up the fruit on the table and started tossing it in his hands, saying: "Alex, you’ve never experienced being liked by a girl without any ulterior motives, have you?"
