His Wife Calls The Shots -
Chapter 260: Nathaniel Nolan
Chapter 260: Chapter 260: Nathaniel Nolan
Monday, school, during the long break.
Students gathered in groups of three or five, some standing in the hallway, some in the classroom, still discussing the car race that took place last Saturday. Most were analyzing the reasons for Charles Carrington’s loss, while others were bragging about winning money on bets.
Chloe Collins passed through the crowd and headed downstairs in the Teaching Building.
Reaching the cultural corridor in front of the Teaching Building, she saw a man looking up at the wall reliefs, oblivious to her arrival.
"Why the sudden visit?" She spoke first.
The man turned his head instantly, and upon seeing her, he smiled and said, "I brought Mia something, and took the opportunity to visit you."
He held out the snacks in his hand: "From Immortal Herbs Residence."
Chloe glanced at the dessert in his hand but didn’t take it. Instead, she said with a faint smile, "Thanks, but I feel a little under the weather, so I’ll pass."
"Are you not feeling well? Where? Have you seen a doctor?" Nathaniel Nolan looked worried.
Chloe leaned against the railing, her face pale: "It’s nothing. How’s your AI Project going lately?"
Nathaniel’s eyes were still laden with worry, and he answered somewhat absentmindedly, "The professor has let me enter the laboratory. There are only two graduate students who can enter – you might know the other one: it’s Sophia Spence, from the Spences."
Chloe nodded, her voice exuding an easeful calm, "She has a high level of professional knowledge and is the favorite student of the project leader. It’s expected that she is in the lab."
Nathaniel stared unwaveringly at her, his feelings subtly restrained and gentle as he said, "Yes, you’re right, her level is quite high. Although she can be a little arrogant and doesn’t easily respect others, I often get underestimated by her. But... my ability is indeed slightly inferior to hers."
He had no qualms about losing face, he spoke the truth, adding, "If you took the exam for Capitol University, I would definitely recommend you to the professor. With your ability, completing the project on time would not be a problem."
Chloe gazed into the distance at the tall buildings and said, "You give me too much credit. This is a key national project. I don’t dare to overstep."
Nathaniel laughed: "Chlo-Chlo, can we not be so blindly modest? Just admit you’re not interested."
Chloe turned her head, her eyes shimmering with a touch of brightness, a sly smile playing at the corner of her mouth: "You’re wrong. I’m actually very interested in this project."
Nathaniel looked puzzled: "Really?"
"Let’s not talk about this anymore. You said last night that someone was pooling funds on the black market to have you kidnapped, right? I checked it out, and the culprit is ranked seventh on the leaderboard: Hawk Spirit. He’s very good at laying traps and luring his targets, so be careful," Chloe advised.
Nathaniel chuckled, "Oh, him? I’ve had drinks with him a couple of years ago. I’m not afraid of him. The young man is just a little greedy, but he does have a conscience."
"Well, be careful anyway."
"Bro!"
A shout came from afar, and Mia Nolan ran over hurriedly, clutching her textbooks, and stood between the two, looking warily at Chloe.
"Bro, didn’t you say you were waiting for me over there? Why did you come here?"
Nathaniel felt a bit of a headache: "Go back first, I have something to talk to Chlo-Chlo."
"What can’t I hear?" Mia was very guarded.
Chloe’s gaze swept calmly over Mia’s face and looked at Nathaniel: "I’m going back up first."
After she left, Mia turned to glare at her brother, "You said you were here to see me, didn’t you?"
Just now, while she was in class, Nathaniel suddenly texted her, saying he was at school.
She had rushed down excitedly, only to witness the scene before her.
Her face was cold: "Bro, are you still secretly in love with her?"
