Chapter 174

As they were almost there, she had already sent a message to Theodore.

As soon as she entered, Theodore brought over his handmade invention from art class and explained how to use it.

"Sis, sit down, sit down."

Theodore took out a round cushion, and they both sat in the hallway, bathed in the bright evening sunshine.

Chloe Collins sat cross-legged, resting her chin on one hand, quietly watching him introduce his homemade flying device.

The screw was not tightened well, and as soon as it was about to start, the wings tilted at an angle.

"Oh no!" Theodore frowned.

Chloe couldn’t help but smile and said, "Wait."

With that, she leaned to the left, broke off a little finger-sized twig from a potted plant, and then started digging next to a big tree root.

Theodore was surprised and crawled over to watch her dig.

After about ten seconds, suddenly, a small iron box appeared beneath the loosened soil.

"Wow, what is this?" Theodore asked in amazement.

Chloe pried out the small iron box, blew away the dirt covering it, entered the code, and opened it.

Inside were some small tools, she picked out one for tightening screws, and tightened the screw on the flying device.

Theodore stared at her as she worked. "Sis, when did you hide this under the tree?"

"When the tree was just a seedling," she replied casually.

Theodore: "So you were only six? Dad said this tree is 13 years old this year."

"Hmm."

"Were you playing with these when you were six?"

He pointed at the tools in the toolbox.

Chloe thought for a moment, and said, "At that time, I liked to dismantle and fix things. Mom didn’t let me play with them, so I hid them here. I didn’t expect them to still be there."

Theodore nodded, then pulled the flying gadget.

The little thing wobbled and flew up into the air.

In the distance,

Tristan Collins watched this scene with a rare warmth in his eyes.

But soon, a complicated, tangled emotion took over.

He averted his gaze.

"Have the Young Lady change her clothes," he ordered the servant nearby.

The servant nodded and immediately headed towards Chloe.

Raine Nolan stood in the living room, neither leaning nor swaying, watching this entire scene unfold.

She stared at the iron box beside Chloe, her eyes filled with hidden turmoil.

That rusty iron box seemed to be mocking her. No matter how long Chloe Collins had been away from this home, no matter how long Raine Nolan had lived here, there was only one Young Lady of the Collinses, and that was Chloe Collins.

And she was just a guest.

As expected, Chloe refused to change clothes and didn’t plan to attend the banquet with Tristan.

This didn’t alleviate Raine’s mood either.

So when Tristan was about to get angry, she stepped forward and said to Chloe: "Sister must be preparing for the Chemistry competition next week, so it’s normal that she doesn’t have time to attend. Besides, tonight all the guests are Fragrance Specialists. Sister doesn’t know anything about that, and I’m sure she’ll find it boring. Dad, don’t force her to go with you, she doesn’t belong there."

She maintained a smile throughout her speech, but her youthful energy couldn’t perfectly conceal her resentment, making her seem odd instead.

Tristan, having seen through many people, naturally understood her hidden meaning.

She was implying that Chloe was utterly useless in the field of fragrance and would be of no help to the Collinses if she were to attend. Moreover, she might even embarrass Tristan and the family.

Tristan’s gaze was icy as he looked at Chloe, waiting to see how she would respond.

But in his heart, he already had an answer.

How many times had it been when he wasn’t disobeyed?
