Chapter 1693: Chapter 1693: Just Like a... Puppet
Chapter 1693
Pushing open the bedroom door, she saw the man inside lying sound asleep on the bed, hands indeed handcuffed as Ethel had described.
Ethel pulled over a chair and said, "Chloe, you sit here. When he wakes up, you just need to talk to him. He’s most afraid of seeing you."
Chloe nodded slightly, without a word.
Ethel walked out silently, thinking to prepare some breakfast to bring up for them.
Just as she reached the doorway, she saw Hans White coming in with six Mutated People.
"Did Chloe Collins come in just now?" he asked with a frosty look.
This show of force frightened Ethel considerably. She composed herself and said, "No, uncle, you must be mistaken."
"No?" He let out a derisive snort. "The surveillance makes it clear. You lot, go upstairs and drag her out for me, take her away!"
Quickly, Ethel stood at the staircase entrance and spread her arms to block them. "That’s not possible. Milty said when he’s resting, no one is allowed to disturb him. I assure you Chloe Collins isn’t here. She only came for a moment and then she left."
No sooner had she finished speaking than one of the Mutated People by Hans’ side countered her statement, "There are scents of two people in the second-floor bedroom."
Ethel frowned, forgetting that these Mutated People all had skills, and it wasn’t impossible that one of them had a sense of smell as strong as hers.
"Upstairs, now, take the person!" Hans ordered.
After thinking for a moment, Ethel stepped aside.
First, she knew she couldn’t win a direct confrontation. Second, she remembered what happened last time.
She had witnessed Chloe using her abilities firsthand. The ability to control objects from a distance could be considered invincible; naturally, she wasn’t afraid of these mere six Mutated People.
She hurried after them, to see if she could be of any help.
But at that moment, she noticed that something was off with Hans White’s complexion and expression, and she took a closer look.
Different from the usual Hans White, today’s Hans had a pale face, his expression wooden and lifeless, looking just like a... puppet.
Indeed, like those marionettes controlled by strings, every word and move manipulated by someone else.
Suddenly she felt her thoughts were too naive, and without dwelling on it further, followed Hans White’s footsteps up to the second floor.
By this time, the bedroom door on the second floor had been broken open.
The six Mutated People stood on either side of the large bed, blocking both escape routes.
Chloe Collins was still sitting calmly on the chair, looking at the man on the bed, and uttered two words, "Senior."
Milton had awakened and was looking closely at everything with a deep furrow in his brow, especially at his wrists locked in handcuffs.
He was in no hurry, just exuding a chilling aura, his hoarse, deep voice calling out a few words, "Release me."
When he said this, he didn’t look at Chloe at all.
From that alone, Ethel knew the man before her was still the alternate personality.
"No need to release him," came the reply.
The speaker was none other than Hans White.
Milton’s gaze turned cold and sharp as he confronted Hans, "Old man, what did you say?"
Ethel was utterly confused as well.
Normally, upon seeing this scene, Hans White would have ordered someone to unlock the handcuffs before Milton even had to speak.
Why the reversal today?
Ethel quietly moved to Milton’s side, ready to act accordingly.
From this angle, she faced Chloe directly.
At this moment, she saw that Chloe still had the same expression as before, saying nothing, her gentle gaze fixed on Milton.
Ethel whispered, "Big brother, look, Chloe is calling you."
