She looked into his eyes and added, "I’m more inclined to believe the former."

When she said this, there was not a trace of sadness in her eyes.

Given that her earlier distress over Milton White’s choices seemed somewhat inconsistent, Alexander Foster knew she had more to say.

"You’re suggesting that it was him, but his aim wasn’t really to kill you?"

Chloe leaned in and kissed his forehead, saying, "Smart."

This reward-like kiss elicited a faint smile from the man’s lips.

He sat up, held her in his arms, and spoke gently, "Does this mean I’ve wronged him?"

Chloe looked up, shook her head, then nodded, "He, wants us to misjudge him. He knows I wouldn’t be killed off so easily and intentionally sent the two most suspicious individuals.

In fact, if he truly wanted to kill us quietly, there was no need to send anybody to get close. He could have taken action from the first night we arrived at the hotel by simply tampering with the hotel kitchen."

"He’s not really after what he seems to be."

Alexander Foster met her wise and calm gaze, and somewhere deep within, he also understood the logic.

He began to speak about what had happened there today.

"Because of this event, the Whites were forced to suspend the release of a batch of new vaccines," he mentioned.

Chloe continued his thought, "It was you who told Charles to call the police, which led to this incident. He... wants to use our power to halt the release of the vaccine."

At this point, things were pretty much clear.

But it was still just her guess.

Alexander Foster pondered for a moment, then said, "Now that batch of vaccine has been held back, soon there will be inspections. Valleys’s plan is most likely to use this vaccine to continue spreading the virus."

Chloe thought for a while and said, "This is bad."

She looked up at him and said, "If you are right, Senior might be warning us to be careful about the vaccine release. Our vaccine could very well be swapped by Valleys as a stepping-stone for dispersing the virus."

Alexander Foster calmly explained, "I’ve already considered this and have sent people to strictly monitor it."

Chloe responded, "I’m worried that even if there are no issues domestically, once it’s shipped abroad, problems might arise."

After all, such matters were not happening right under their watch. With the mountain high and the emperor far away, it was not impossible for someone to switch out a batch of vaccines.

"I’ll give him a call, try to get a clear answer," Chloe said.

Alexander Foster held her hand gently and spoke softly, "There’s no need. His phone and cellphone are both being monitored by Valleys. Even if you get in touch with him, it would be of no use. We are not clear about his situation right now. The best approach is to not make a move for the time being, to avoid startling the snake in the grass."

Chloe had considered this, but she had harbored a hope.

Alexander Foster gazed at her for a long time, then asked, "Do you not believe he would truly kill you?"

Chloe glanced at him, abruptly drew closer, her nose touching his, and asked, "You’re not getting jealous again, are you?"

Alexander Foster smiled helplessly, "Could I even?"

She lowered her gaze and leaned against his neck, whispering, "To me, he is a very important relative. Doubting him is like doubting myself."

"Ouch," the man let out a low murmur, looked down somewhat jestingly, "I’m, jealous."

Chloe quietly pulled out a card and handed it to him without a word.

The card was newly inscribed by her.

A little figure wearing a very familiar piece of clothing, with a few simple words inside, was enough to soothe the man’s slight bitterness.
