Chapter 1459
The ambulance quickly arrived and took the patient away.
This incident alarmed everyone, even spreading to other families, the rumor circulating that the old master had suffered a stroke and would not survive much longer.
After several hours of emergency care, the doctors announced that the old master was in a vegetative state, his recovery solely left to fate.
News of this event spread like wildfire within the upper circles and even seeped onto the internet.
Numerous unfounded rumors emerged, suggesting that the Fosters seemed to be on the brink of instability once again.
By eight o’clock that very night, all of the Fosters had returned to probe into this matter.
The old butler demonstrated a side no one had ever seen before, manic and irate, accusing Wanda Wesley of being the killer.
"It was her! She suddenly jumped down from the wall, I just guarded the doorway for a few minutes, when I looked back, she was gone, the master couldn’t get up too, if not her then who could it be?!"
"Mr. Willis, without actual evidence implicating her, we cannot rush to conclusions," Evelyn Thompson said.
The old butler was nearly in hysterics. "Second Madam, you must stop defending her. This girl is not as innocent as she appears. Who else could it be? Me?!"
Robert Foster defended Wanda. "When the accident happened, she had been with me having breakfast all along, how can you be sure it was her?"
Everyone was heartbroken when the old master collapsed suddenly, but that couldn’t necessarily implicate Wanda.
Robert Foster even considered if this could be a new ploy by the old master.
He had seen Wesley enter the restroom with his own eyes and she came out in a few minutes only. Even running from where they were to the main building would take a few minutes.
From a logical perspective, it didn’t make sense.
Evelyn Thompson also recalled guarding the doorway the entire time. She had a clear recollection of whether Wesley had gone out, so she didn’t believe the butler’s words.
The only surveillance footage was from the front gate of the east wing. There was no camera in the courtyard of the main building where the old master collapsed. After everyone reviewed the existing footage, no evidence was found to implicate Wesley.
The butler’s accusations turned feeble.
Robert held Wanda’s hand, protecting her behind him. He looked at her, signalling that she could relax.
Wanda remained expressionless, as if the present incident had nothing to do with her whatsoever.
"Mr. Willis, did you see her attacking my grandfather with your own eyes?"
The butler’s voice choked, and he suddenly lost his words.
"Well, at that time, the master asked me to leave and there were only the two of them in there. She disappeared as soon as something happened to the old master, who else could it be?"
"So you’re saying, there’s no evidence."
The butler nearly burst into tears. "It really was her! You tell them yourself! Miss Wesley, did you or did you not go there?"
All eyes turned to Wanda.
Wanda had no reaction.
Sophia Ford and her family all trusted the butler’s words deeply, though they were vexed at lack of evidence and didn’t understand the logic behind it.
Everyone harbored a bold yet baseless suspicion in their hearts: the old master was pretending to be ill to drive Wanda away.
Or more sinister, to incite enmity between Wanda and Robert.
However, these thoughts were buried deep in their hearts and left unmentioned. After all, it concerned the old master’s reputation and they didn’t have the necessary evidence, so it was inappropriate to bring up.
And besides, the old master had not used such tactics before while opposing a union between Alexander Foster and Chloe Collins, so why would he do so now?
With this thought in mind, no one mentioned it further.
