Chapter 1442

Having made sense of the situation, she temporarily set it aside and refocused her thoughts on searching for Wanda Wesley.

Fifteen minutes later, she walked out of the building empty-handed.

Just then, the phone rang. It was Layla Lowell.

"Chlo-Chlo, I’ve found her. But the situation is a bit tricky. I’m at the hospital now."

"I understand. I’m heading there now."

She immediately rushed to the hospital and met Layla Lowell at the entrance of the ward.

Layla explained, "When we found her, she was lying soaked outside the aquarium, unconscious. The staff there said she continuously submerged herself in the water as if she thought she was a fish. The doctor who examined her stated she’s merely asleep. Should we put her through a thorough check-up?"

Chloe Collins opened the door and glanced inside. Wanda was still unconscious.

She replied, "Let’s see how she progresses first. If she doesn’t wake up after a while, we’ll transfer her back to the capital."

Layla nodded.

Worriedly looking at Wanda lying on the bed, Chloe felt a twinge of apprehension.

Seizing the opportunity, Chloe had the doctor conduct a full body examination of Wanda. The results revealed that her brain’s nervous system had been influenced by drugs, and there was a slight change in her body’s genes. This made Chloe stare at Wanda with growing concern.

Chloe stopped the doctor from investigating further, fearing they might associate Wanda with the chaotic experimental subjects. If that happened, Wanda would be in trouble.

Afterwards, the doctor delicately expressed that Wanda’s condition was almost like that of an idiot.

The moment the doctor made this statement, Chloe felt a strong presence behind her.

She turned around to see Robert Foster out of breath.

He’d run there, his forehead and back damp with sweat.

Hearing the doctor’s words, he quickly advanced and questioned the doctor sharply.

Having witnessed such scenes before, the doctor calmly stated, "There is no immediate threat to her life. As for the rest, we’re powerless."

With that, he left.

Chloe comforted Robert, "There will be a way out. She’s inside; do you want to see her?"

He held onto the doorknob and, through the window, saw the girl lying on the bed. His amber eyes trembled, slowly reddening.

"Contact me if anything comes up."

Chloe exchanged knowing glances with Layla and left quietly.

Outside the hospital’s main gate, Layla sighed, "I thought they would have the happiest ending, but I didn’t expect it to turn out like this. I thought Robert had forgotten her, but it seems he’s surprisingly persistent."

She expressed her sentiment before lightly smiling, "It’s late, let’s head back and rest. We can come again tomorrow. With Robert here, she won’t be in any danger."

Chloe nodded slightly, her gaze landing on Charles Carrington who had been standing by like furniture.

He had been unusually well-behaved.

She withdrew her gaze and addressed Layla, "Are you sure you want to go back with me?"

"Sure thing." Layla blinked.

Layla stepped off the staircase with the man trailing behind her.

"I’ll take you home."

"Thank you, Young Master Carrington, but that won’t be necessary."

"Fishie..."

He grabbed her hand, preventing her from walking any further.

Upon seeing this, Chloe interjected, "You two finish your chat. You know the door code, and I’m quite tired, so I’ll go first."

Charles flashed a look of gratitude at Chloe.

Ignoring his gaze, Chloe walked off.

The cold wind whistled. Layla, who was not dressed for the weather, shrank her neck in and said, "If you have something to say then say it quickly. But if it’s about our daughter, don’t bother. I’ve told you before, she’s mine. If you want a child, go father one with someone else."
