Chapter 1424
Today’s Shareholders’ Meeting marks the beginning of the comic book series.
He collected his thoughts, looking at the reporters outside the building who couldn’t get in, a sense of superiority welled up inside him. After smoothly swiping his access card, he headed to the penthouse.
His job was to observe Clara Carrington’s work and life, and to glorify her in the comics.
Following the staff to the top floor, he couldn’t help but hold his breath.
Up here, even breathing had to be careful.
By half-past nine, the relevant personnel began to arrive.
Clara Carrington walked among the shareholders, her uncles, and engaged them in casual conversation, a confident smile spread across her face.
The divisions were obvious from the moment they arrived.
Clara Carrington had the most supporters, followed by Charles Carrington, and then Christian Carrington.
Charles Carrington was initially the most suitable candidate, but his lack of ambition and lazy disposition displeased the shareholders, leading them to agree to a replacement.
Therefore, this Shareholders’ Meeting was in fact to choose between Christian Carrington and Clara Carrington.
Not long after everyone settled down, Chairman Chase Carrington appeared.
Nearly fifty years old and weighed down by years of hard work, he sported streaks of silver in his hair. Yet, his beautiful eyes were still bright and clear, exuding an intimidating charisma.
As soon as he entered, everyone stood up and greeted him in hushed voices.
Sitting opposite Charles Carrington was a man with an innately blessed appearance - rotund and large-eared. Yet his eyes were narrow and shrewd, and the corners of his mouth were always curled upward, giving him an affable appearance.
This was Christian and Clara’s biological father, Chase’s younger brother, Colin Carrington.
Next to him was Chase’s third brother, Jamie Carrington. His children were still young and thus ineligible to compete for the presidency. He sat there, his face sour, a stark contrast to Colin’s delight.
After all, the winner of this round would be one of Colin’s children.
"Brother, everyone is here. Shall we begin?" Colin looked at Chase.
Just as Chase was about to speak, Charles Carrington’s languid voice came through: "Let’s wait two more minutes, Uncle Colin, one person is still missing."
Everyone was puzzled. Which person was missing?
Chase asked sternly, "Who has not arrived yet?"
Charles looked at his cell phone, which displayed a single line message: I’m parking.
"Dad, as long as someone is a descendent of the Carringtons and is above eighteen, they’re eligible to compete for this position, right?"
Chase responded with a nonchalant nod, a seeming understanding reflected in his eyes.
Misunderstanding, Colin laughed, "Charles, your Uncle Jamie’s children are not yet eighteen, did you forget?"
Charles replied mysteriously, "Who says I was referring to them?"
"Then who?"
Charles stood up, looked at his father, and raised his voice, "Ladies and gentlemen, before the Shareholders’ Meeting, I would like to make an announcement."
Chase’s eyes remained calm, seemingly acquiescing to his son’s action.
Everyone was curious about what he would do.
Clara was especially so.
She had already learnt from her father, Colin, about Chloe Collins’ lineage, which had always been a concern for her.
However, Chloe Collins was supposedly dead, so even if raised, it should be of no consequence, right?
Then an assistant came in from outside, with some documents in hand.
"Chloe Collins is my father’s biological daughter, making her my sister. Therefore, she is also eligible to participate in today’s competition."
As soon as he finished speaking, everyone received a copy of the paternity test results, indicating that Chloe Collins was Chase’s biological daughter.
Clara’s hands trembled slightly, her lips pressed together tightly.
