Chapter 1306

He set the basket aside and walked over to Chloe, asking, "Something on your mind?"

Her mesmerized gaze focused, "Can you tell?"

Alexander Foster scuffed her nose and chuckled, "It’s written all over your face, plus, your archery skills are slacking."

Chloe sighed, "I can’t really explain it, but I feel like I’m missing something important."

"Take your time and relax, you’ll remember eventually."

She grabbed an arrow, pulled back her bow, aimed for the sky, and let it fly -- but missed.

"I’m not sure but this feeling has been with me for a few days now, since we determined that Mane York and Dean Collins’ illness are related. I just can’t seem to pinpoint why," Chloe confessed.

Alex offered her another arrow, "Take your time, think it through."

Meanwhile, Jerry River finally walked in late, pretending to fix his trousers while jogging in, intentionally deflected, "Had some bad food last night, can’t stop needing the loo."

While he was chatting, he peeked into the basket, "Oh, we’re having rabbit for lunch? Delicious, especially when braised."

As soon as these words left his mouth, he looked up and froze.

"Alex...Alexander Foster? What are you doing here!" He practically jumped out of his skin.

Alexander Foster ignored him, continuing to teach Chloe archery.

Jerry River ran over to them, his eyes full of anxiety, "If you’re here, where is Manie? Where did Manie go?!"

Chloe glanced calmly at him, "Sir, what do you mean by that?"

A flicker of guilt ghosted across Jerry River’s eyes, but he failed to answer Chloe’s question, instead asking Alex loudly, "Manie’s leg is injured, did you just abandon her and leave?"

Alex’s usually indifferent handsome face suddenly lit up, becoming icy. He looked straight at Jerry River, "Mr. Bush, if you dare carrying out any dubious business under my watch, don’t blame me for being ruthless."

The cold masculine voice fell, and the fully drawn bow suddenly turned, aiming right at Jerry River’s face!

Jerry River’s blood ran cold, his legs turned to jelly, and for a moment, he forgot to dodge.

A razor-sharp ’whoosh’ sound filled his ear, then a gust of wind grazed his earlobe. It stung!

Jerry River’s face turned white as a sheet. He turned and saw that two arrows that had just grazed his ear had both struck wild chickens.

He glanced at Chloe, who had a subtle smile and a look in her eye saying "Isn’t my man impressive?"

Jerry River wiped sweat off his forehead, feeling as if his life expectancy had just been cut short by two years.

He suddenly forgot what he was just doing and found himself at a loss for words.

At this point—

"I’ve got it!" Chloe exclaimed suddenly.

A delighted smile appeared on her face as she turned to Alex, "He was just six when the incident happened, and Mane York was around the same age. After all these years, Mane York’s appearance has changed. Normally, Dean Collins wouldn’t have recognized her from one glimpse, unless he had seen Mane York again after he turned six."

Chloe started packing up her tools, "If this assumption is true, that proves Mane York lied, she’s definitely hiding something."

While she was speaking, she suddenly stopped as if recalling a very important detail.

"When I first met him, he was lying among a heap of corpses, barely conscious, mumbling ’don’t hit her’."

"That year... was exactly when Mane York went to Goldasia. It was also when Goldasia was facing internal chaos, and he was caught in the crossfire and left behind."
