In the secret room.
The hypnosis had been going on for over an hour, rendering the room peaceful.
Jerry River sat in the middle, watching the two people with their hands intertwined. Their eyes were tightly shut, already in the zone.
He fetched an hourglass and watched the purple sand slowly fall, a smirk playing on his lips.
"By tomorrow morning, you both will have made a decision in your hearts."
The voice was muffled and faint as it entered Alexander Foster’s ears.
...
This was the rear mountain of Harville Temple, quiet and beautiful, a place conducive to meditation.
A woman was lying on an ancient hundred-year-old tree, squinting her eyes for a midday nap. A while later, she was awakened by bird calls.
With a late-spring herb playfully held in her mouth, she jumped from the tree branch, dusting off the dirt from her body.
In the height of summer, cicadas chirped everywhere. The piercing sunshine made the day seem lethargic and long.
She remembered the days she had lodger at Harville Temple. After lunch, she would come here for a nap. Thinking about it today, she came to relive those memories.
"Senior, Master is calling for you."
She turned around and saw a novice monk who had not been in the temple for long.
She smiled, "Alright, I will come back soon."
Past a flower door, she saw Master Matsu.
He sat beside a stone table in the courtyard, surrounded by three young monks. One of them casually grabbed something from the table and got scolded:"Don’t play with this; these are invitations. Without them, we can’t attend your senior sister’s wedding."
Chloe Collins smiled: "Master."
Master Matsu looked up and laughed,"You’re back. Sit down. Here, have this apple. I’ve just peeled it."
He handed several apple slices to Chloe Collins.
Chloe just started eating without reserve.
Master Songya looked far into the distance: "My girl, how time flies. I remember you were only this big when I first saw you. And now, you’re getting married."
Chloe felt the apple in her mouth losing its sweetness and said, "I am getting married, but I am not leaving far away. I am marrying your disciple—no need to be sentimental."
Master Songya laughed: "Master just feels time flies. You’re 25 this year, and I’m getting old."
Chloe smiling gently to console her master.
Suddenly, she felt a bit dizzy and instinctively leaned on the table. Before long, she fell asleep.
When she woke up, she was no longer in the temple but in a room at the Fosters’.
In Alexander Foster’s room.
The wedding was only five days away, but the room and courtyard had already been festively decorated.
She yawned as she sat up, but dizziness washed over her head. Unable to sit up, she fell back onto the pillow.
"Chlo-Chlo!"
The man quickly walked over and held her up.
"Are you feeling a headache?" he asked softly.
Chloe shook her head, sitting upright: "I’m fine. I haven’t taken my medicine today. I will feel better after taking it."
Alex grunted in acknowledgment and turned to fetch her medicine and water.
After she took the medicine, he peeled a piece of candy and fed it into her mouth, smiling, "Suck it to get rid of the medicinal taste."
She obediently put it in her mouth, the sweet taste spread on her tongue.
The dizziness in her head had eased, but she still felt weak. She leaned into him, lazily nestling in his arms.
The sound of a downpour came over. She looked up and saw the rain curtain outside the window.
The air smelled faintly of mud, making her think of the wet soil drenched in rain.
"Alex, I want to go out and watch the rain."
"Alright."
The man obeyed her every command without resistance. He gently picked her up and carried her to the terrace outside.
